You should NEVER tell a woman that you're going to love her regardless of whether she'll do the same back to you or not. It's the ultimate way to get your feelings hurt. Incredibly hurt at that. This song is brilliant though. This is soul and funk with an O. Other words: Soul and FONK! You can't tell me that bassline is not the shizznit. Bootsy and Larry Graham would be proud of that.
another one of cameo vocal masterpieces harmony is excellent then you layer it with a horn section and the guitar riff then you scat over that......enuff said
something I found out looking up the tracks to this album.. is that the bassist from Cameo, did the bass line for Outkast's "Ms. Jackson".. and some of the other members, along with the bassist, were hired by Outkast for live & studio sessions..
I love Cameo almost as much as I love my wife. She left me yesterday and my life hasn't been the same. I'm empty inside; don't know whether to live or die. I guess Cameo has it right: "I don't care if you don't love me, I'm going to love you anyway......"
@penmastertoch Another one will find you or vise versa. They out number us. Trust me. I was in the same shoes until I realized I could take em off just like that! It took me forever to find the Shes Strange Album they kept telling me they had the song Shes Strange on their Greatest hits album but I wanted the album just for this song.
Sounds, in this day n age, kinda ''stalkerish'', but i'm an original 'Cameo baby', so I get it: '''Funk on top of ''unrequited love''-Miss the Blackmon!
I have been searching for this song since hearing it on the radio 4 years ago, unfortunately this song and album is on available in the UK, that why i'v had problems finding it. So thanks for posting, love it.
This was the 1st sax solo that i studied and tried to learn cause this song is so F'n badass! Cameo was and is amazing through all the styles they brought and mastered! still as relevent today as it ever was! GET SOME!
I'M NOT A JAZZ FAN AT ALL, BUT THIS IS WHAT I CLASSIFY AS MY TYPE OF JAZZ!!!!!! MY GOD-SISTER HOOKED ME ON THIS 8 TRACK BACK N DA DAY. IT STILL GOT ME!!!!!
Always loved this song. No-one else seemed to know it at the time. i didn't have the album but it was B-side of She's Strange (I think). Played it over and over with headphones on - loud. Mellow!!! That George Benson-esque duet at the end - amazing!
I'm not trying to put anybody else down, but this is black music at it's finest. Classy, funky, groovy, smooth, jazzy... Music like this is the soundtrack of a cultured black soul.
I think this one of the funkiest tracks Cameo ever recorded, It remains one of my most played songs! @ gentsounds, I agree, and it's a great one for road trips!
I always thought cameo would go in this direction and start doing Jazz type tunes and make music forever! This was so different for them and I thought it was a good path ,I was wrong. But this will live forever!
This song does sumthing to me.... Man they ripped it up in Nashville!!!! I still have'nt came back down since!!! Thats what the power of Funk can do to you!!!! The Cameosis!!!! AAron Mills bass intro to this song......wooo-weee!!! HELP ME!!!!!
@dx318 Man i wish!!! They did'nt digg that deep... Got a chance to hang with Aaron Mills at the Hotel dwntown they stayed at...We talked and he did mentioned about his project before he became full-pledged in with Cameo!! I will never forget that moment at all!!!! Aarons one cool ass dude!!!
@larryluvewf Great that you got to talk to Aaron ! Yeah, i've seen him talking in this following youtube-clip : youtube.com/watch?v=bG3KU7tHGfA (towards the end around 3 mintes and 5 seconds). Here's also his solowork as 'Vitamin A' : - youtube.com/watch?v=lP9WP2bBtCI And with MCB : - youtube.com/watch?v=ZIXGyjtZXHk - youtube.com/watch?v=UHDRLUMeYLk - youtube.com/watch?v=17zCABshRV0 - youtube.com/watch?v=Oh-TdorTHDc - youtube.com/watch?v=mJT4NTcwl6c
I love this track beyond words but I love all of Cameo's funky grooves and jams, so I could never mention a fave, I cant believe no ones mentioned "Two Of Us" and "Give Love A Chance" from the "Ugly Ego" LP what gems.. Also a big shout out for "Kleeer" another great funk band..
If it took you 25 years to appreciate this song then you have no say so. It is clearly one of Cameos finest grooves, then again, for me, all of Cameo's music is just one assemblage of GREATNESS!!!! Can't you see the WIND blowing up against my BACK?
I agree with you dzire99, all of Cameo's music is the shiznit, charlie8575 the radio stations wouldn't have kept you from this song if your were a True Cameo Fan!
I had the LP and copied it on a cassette and then listended to it while I was in military services in Switzerland.... still love it and no, the memories are not gone...
WOW, I totally forgot about this one and I still have this album from '84. I may get beat down for this but I have to say that Cameo has got to be the funkiest band. I mean they put out albums year after year that were just so damn funky.
The stuff that they call R&B that's produced like a hip hop type of track is not music and the people like Rihanna,Chris Brown,Ciarra,The Dream,Jamie Fox,T- Pain, just to name a few.
I think this is my favourite Cameo song but then I hear I've Got Your Image and change my mind... then I hear this and change my mind and it goes onand on...
Great joint by Cameo my 2nd favorite band of all time right behind Maze. I see that a lot of people have listed their favorite Cameo songs so let me share mine. #1 Candy, 2. We All Know Who We Are, 3. Don't Be Lonely, 4. Attack Me With Your Love 5. Feel Me 6. Alligator Woman
7. Hangin' Downtown 8. Sparkle 9. Funk Funk 10. Keep It Hot
I have noted on earlier posts of my opinion about this song. I recommend to every CAMEO fan to take the time to listen to their cuts "Aphrodisiac and You're a Winner". You will be pleased and satisfied..........you're welcome.
This is my first time to hear this song, it's amazing! I love the vocal double with the guitar, it makes a great effect that's wayyy too underused! I want to find a way to arrange this song to play it on my saxaphone...
when it changes from one to two saxophones (3:01) is always the moment when i wonder how someone can hear techno or country music. it must be sad not to own a taste for the gud things in life :-)
All around Cameo is one of the greatest of our time! hands down! This is when bands were bands. 10 or 12 fellas on stage giving a great show. Cameo was even better live! Play on nubian brothas..........
This is by far the best Cameo song ever, in my opinion. I have to give cudos to "That Kind of Guy" and "Ive Got Your Image". Larry Blackmon's music was part of the the highlights of my life with his music. I sang all three of my daughters to sleep with this song (their choice)even though my version was pretty off key. My top 5 would be Alligator Women, Knights of the Sound Table,Shes Strange, Style, and Word Up. Not to diss the older LP's but the ones I listed just had multiple great jams
Ok after hearing this song again. I stand by my claim that this is CAMEO's best song ever! I love them all-Don't Be Lonely, I Got your Image, Hangin Downtown, Feel Me, We alway know who we Are, Your Smile, Skin I'm In, Candy, Back and Forth, Enjoy Your Life, Rigor Mortis, Freaky Dancin, She's Strange, Flirt, We're Goin out Tonight, Shake your Pants, We're a Winner, I Just Want to Be, It's Serious, Sparkle, Single Life, Attack Me with your Love- and those I may have missed- but this song is tops!
The very best song CAMEO ever made. Interested in anyone's opinion of a better song. I am a cameo fan from 1975- since find my way, rigor mortis, and funk funk- I know cameo. Too bad this did not get the attention it deserved; I believe this was better than most songs out in 84. Any better?
Dang...I thought I was the chief Cameoian 'round here! Nontheless, I totally agree that this is one of their many "left out" smokers. I don't believe this was ever released as a single. Too bad...would've made a great follow up to She's Strange. As far as "the best" Cameo joint ever made?...well, that's hard for me 'cause I've got sooo many favorites. I have the same problem with Prince...too many good songs. Waaaay to many good songs. Peace
Thanks for the note...very cool name- I'm hearing parliament in my head now... As far as production, arrangement, orchestration, vocals - this song gets my top vote although Candy, Back and Forth, Feel Me, Flirt, Your Smile, Sparkle, She's Strange, Enjoy your Life, We're a Winner and the The Sound Table are very strong runners up. Nothing was hotter than Rigor Mortis in the clubs back in '76 Instead of Cameoians how about Knights of the Sound Table- call me Sir Rhythm...You are Sir or Lady Funk
That would be "Sir" Awwfunkme. Damn...you named some classic stuff--particularly Feel Me (as far as their ballards go). Again, I'd be hard pressed to list my favorite "desert island" tracks from Cameo, but I can list my three (o.k., five) favorite albums: We All Know...,Cameosis,Knights of The Sound Table, She's Strange, Word Up. I wish my guys would get it together and drop something fonky, QUICK! I'm tired of waiting for them to tour. Without a doubt, one of my very favorite bands. How 'bout u
My top five in order is Earth, Wind & Fire, Cameo, Con Funk Shun, GAP Band, Isley Brothers. CHIC, Kool and The Gang, Slave, Parliament-Funkadelic, Commodores are the next group. Cameo became irrelevant when Larry decided he wanted to rap; Michael Cooper of Confunkshun did the same thing. Their old school concerts are great but there are no more original funky grooves. The last great original groove was Groove Me by Guy in 1988; its been down hill every since for R&B.
Hey, hey...you not allowed to mix groups. The assignment was to list your top five Cameo LP's. If we lose focus, we'll be talking for the rest of the year! C'mon, now...keep it hot!
Knights of the sound table, Alligator Woman, She's Strange, the very first album(I believe its called Cardiac Arrest), and Word Up. Machismo was also very good (featuring Miles..). Take care

Did Cameo perform this track in Nashville ? Awesome if they did because i've
never heard them perform it. The late Mike "Calamari" Burnett, Melvin Wells
and Larry are the 3 who are credited for bass on the She's Strange-album.
Aaron Mills doesn't appear on this project and was at that time busy with his
own Cameo spinoff-group, MCB (also with Cameo-members, Jheryl Bright
and Thomas TC Campbell) and shortly after released some singles for the
hiphop-label, Sugar Hill.

The last great original groove was Groove Me by Guy in 1988; its been down hill every since for R&B.
dfebra- not hi on my list

Hey, hey...you not allowed to mix groups. The assignment was to list your top five Cameo LP's. If we lose focus, we'll be talking for the rest of the year! C'mon, now...keep it hot!

You're correct. My top five Cameo lps are:
Knights of the sound table, Alligator Woman, She's Strange, the very first album(I believe its called Cardiac Arrest), and Word Up. Machismo was also very good (featuring Miles..). Take care
