@PJDooWop Detroit harmony lead the way to modern R & B as we know it. On another note: Detroit had great recording studios. I remember, being from NY, how our teeage band recorded at a studio in New York City. The equipment was WWII surplus lol. The 45 was circulated but WOW, if we only had the producers that MOTOWN had! - Vinny, the Past-Tells.
@TheCahoonzie - This is true. You had good studios and bad all over the place. In the beginning Motown broke all of the accepted recording rules, but Gordy had some really nice equipment so after a few years of experimentation he was able to get a killer sound out of the snake pit. Some of those dungeon-like NY studios had a great sound, though. Bell and Associated are two good examples
very strong...i can hear otis redding w/booker t and cropper/dunn rhythm or sam cooke-touch of gospel groove happening too-its a masterpiece! thanks again pj !
Some very nice guitar work laced around this gospel rooted deep do-wop urban vocal harmony exotica. Detroit was a center of this genre, e.g. Diablos, Minor Chords, et al. Ouch...this one hurts.
I couldn't agree more. Detroit really mastered that blend of gospel and r&b. This song is a great example of what was happening in Detroit at this time
Thanks for this wonderful post PJ. I'm so thankful for all of you that can put these here, yourself, Seaside, DooWop4ever etc. Now if I could just find some decent software so I could transfer them so I could play them in the car, my GF would never get to hear her Country Western Again, lol.....
Strange melody rather an interesting tune with an excellent vocal back up group. Wondering about the year? This song makes me want to relax and reminisce. Thanks PJ!
Didn't realize they also recorded as The Falcons. This must have been pre '58 because the other Falcons group started getting big in Detroit about then. Thanks for the info
@PJDooWop When the 2nd version of The Falcons (Eddie Floyd, Mack Rice, Wilson Pickett, etc.) broke up Robert West still had bookings for "The Falcons". They'd had the hits, afterall. So, he had The Fabulous Playboys become the 3rd version of The Falcons. BTW, somewhere along the way "The Ohio Untouchables" (Ohio Players) used to be the backup band.
UNBELIEVABLE...I LOVE!

This has been in obscurity for many years. A real shame because it was given two chances (released on Daco and Apollo).

Very nice stuff. They were from Detroit. For a while they were called the Falcons (not the guys who sang "You're So Fine"). Thanks very much.
