  • Im cryin my ass off right now and im a gangsta ass dude but fuck it, this shit bings back memories. Damn I want my childhood back!! <:'''''D

  • 90's baby anthem right chea... :)

  • I hate missing that fucking jump..

  • I love how part of this song was embedded in the Mario Kart 7 version of Rainbow Road.

  • it was really better than MK wii !

  • Time warp back to 1996.. *tear*

  • I better see a rainbow road being built in outer space before I die.

  • Easily one of the contenders for Best Game of All Time.

  • Childhood in the rainbow lane.

  • Man, this bring back memories, when 4-Player split screen was the shit.

    I fuckin' Love you Nintendo

  • I returned here because of that damn 1:10

  • la mejor cancion de mario kart

  • as a child i don't hear this song nor play on this track as much but i find this very nostalgic

  • @sfg731 same here, luckily i remember the faces of all the characters in the sky.

  • When I was 10 - Awesome! I love the Rainbow Road Track!

Now - HOW THE HELL DID MY N64 JUST DISAPPEAR?!?!?!?!

  • I love this track! And I know that many of you will kill me for this but they remixed this song on Mario Kart 7 and it is amazing! Not as good as this one but still!!

  • Man, the memories, I loved this track and I used to take the shortcut where u jumped off the giant hill at the beginning all the way to the left until u landed on the road where the giant star is. Plus the music is my favorite of all the rainbow roads.

  • 12 people were unable to dodge chain-chomp :P

  • No I missed the shortcut again... damn this music for being so good.

  • nyan cat road

  • My favorite Rainbow Road of all time. Seriously.

  • i personally prefer the gamecube version of this song!

  • @honorguard88 64 bit verses full sound quality. i was born into the era of N64 so i like this better you probably were born in the gcn era so you like that better

  • que chido!

  • This will play at my funeral... Or I swear I will jump out of my grave and become a zombie.

  • 12 people are about to...

    FEEL MY WRATH!!

  • 12 people don't know what good music is

  • This video game tune is sadly better than most music out there today in the wild & rigid sexed up mainstream. Nostalgia is the word for this music and all the artists I listen to display this element to their music. Want a good artist example? Saint Etienne (favorite band) or Sally Shapiro.

  • Nostalgia heart attack!!!!!

  • Haha this is on Mario Kart 7 :D

  • It's rainbow road, it's where you go...

  • My childhood right here...

When I die I want to hear this playing as I see my life flash before my eyes.

  • Rainbow Road forever :D

  • Mario Kart 7... thanks for the memories.

  • LOL 12 people suck ass

  • They made a tribute to this song in Mario Kart 7

  • I used to use the mushrooms tht give you a boost to jump over to the other side of the track when u jump the big hill!! Lol

  • I'll see you again, uncle

  • Can't believe it has 15 years..

  • if all the people born between 1990-1998 in the us could have a defining song... one that they all recognize and cherish...

well... can YOU think of a better one?

  • all games are badass

  • THIS SONG IS BOSS

  • smoking to this... i feel so good

  • God the N64 was so much fun..

Me, my cousin and my neighbour trying to find a way to beat Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, and when we got tired if trying to fix those damn puzzles we just went and played some Mario Kart 64 to cool off.

Games these days are all about the money, not about the games.

Just compare 90's and early 2000's games and games nowadays, and you will see the difference.

  • ... Whoever liked TheFlameanddice2401's comment past 64 is a douchepickle

  • N64 was kick ass.

I wish I still had one.

  • I'm never nostalgic about this game, I'd probably have to stop playing it regularly in order to feel that way.

  • im so excited that i commented on youtube... god this is good.

  • I love all Mario Kart Games, even the ones I haven't played. There's just no way I can choose a single, separate favorite.

This is one of them, though.

  • @Spektre41 You should say f*ck the games after 2006.

  • I much prefer Mario Kart 64 to Mario Kart Wii. Double Dash, however, is my all-time favorite.

  • @studiovinny There's really something about Double Dash, ain't it. Me and my buddies play it at a weekly basis, simply because it's so damn good.

  • The ridiculous amount of love for this game is a little bit annoying to me. People continue to praise it as the best in the series. It is nowhere near close.

I have respect for it, but calling it the best is just beyond exaggeration. The controls are simply awful. Even as N64 racers go, this wasn't the best. Diddy Kong Racing was way better.

This game may have gotten the Mario Kart franchise off the ground, but anyone who says that its the best needs to 1. Play it again now, 2. Kart Wii

  • @TheDisarminghinkle This game get's lots of love for many reasons. Most of us played it as kids and have fond memories of it. The music is iconic now. The tracks were interesting and intuative. The items weren't as OP. And it had the best battle track ever. I still play it today with my bros for above reasons (the controls aren't that bad imo).

The wii version was fine but lacking. Tracks were fine, but the karts feel VERY unresponsive when not sliding. OP dumb items. It became MK biker rally.

  • @TheDisarminghinkle Mate, its the best game for them because they grew up with it. Same goes for me, nothing beats the good old N64...Fuck Xbox, PS3 and the Wii.

  • @Joricky12 This is the first Mario Kart to me too. That doesn't mean it's the best.

How many of these people have played MK64 recently? It's garbage. It's impossible to control. And if you want to talk about overpowered items, freaking koopa shells did in that game what Blue Shells do to you in MKWii.

Nostalgia is never an excuse to blindly ignore the truth. Besides, what about people who started with the MK on Super Nintendo? Are you going to tell me they think that one is best?

  • @TheDisarminghinkle I said it was the best game for them and me, my friend, which means it is all opinion, not fact. You should read more carefully if you are going to respond like that. :)

  • @Joricky12 Then I believe you should use the word favorite. Not best. You are being misleading.

I have no quarrel with people liking terrible games. If people enjoy suck then they can enjoy suck. However, they should just say that it is their favorite, not say that it is the best.

  • @TheDisarminghinkle In think "the best game for them" is pretty clear.

And sure this game may be terrible compared to games nowadays, but back in its day, it was a must have, you cannot deny that.

  • @Joricky12 I think that "Their favorite" would have been even more clear. "Best" usually implies something that is arguable. However, you can't argue whether or not something is someone else's favorite.

Sure, it was the best Mario Kart at the time, but that has nothing to do with now. I'm saying that it is no longer the best. This whole conversations started because people were saying it is better than MKWii which seems pretty outrageous to me. Also, I enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing more.

  • @TheDisarminghinkle I play it still sometimes. My first Mario kart was the DS one, so nostalgia had nothing to do with it. I like the music from the 64 version.

  • let me kick all yalls ass's in this game.

  • My favorite stage on Mario Kart 64. I could play this stage all day long and never get bored of it.

  • this song makes me happy

  • my childhood just flashed befor my eyes.

  • @scrapy17 amen to that... *wipes away tear*

  • I usually try not to get into big nostalgic gushing sessions because they're counter productive to the notion of moving gaming forward.

But seriously, fuck everything that came out after this game.

  • My childhood right here!

  • WOW. NOSTALGIA RUSH !!!!!

  • This will play in my head after I have achieved Nirvana.

  • I want to push the start button ;D

  • An endless road of rainbows with walls of stars to protect you.

Neon lights of your friends shine brightly before your eyes.

A beautiful harmony making you feel on top of the world.

A big star watches over you as you circle around it.

A barking chain monster rushes around you, as if it's got a place to go.

Driving slowly, by yourself on a calm stroll.

I hope this is what heaven is like.

  • I just found out that the World 9 map theme in New Super Mario Bros Wii is a remix of this. Pretty awesome.

  • I miss my N64... I mean, I have this game on the virtual console on my Wii, but it's not the same. ;3; </3

    Still, good times. <3

  • I bet TONS of people are playing it right now :)

  • This is one of the greatest compositions on the entire console, the feeling it gives you every time you hear it...gives me goosebumps

  • Wow, this brings back of the memories of playing this with my friend. We would always race to see who could go backwards and hop up the starting ramp the fastest.

  • Right now I am happy crying because I llove this song!! So classic and cool! :)

  • This Rainbow Road track is boring and long and has rails and is still BORING but the music is great.

  • In all Mario Kart games, Rainbow Road will always be my favorite track. I wonder how Rainbow Road is going to be like in Mario Kart 3DS.

  • my 1st N64 game!

  • The only Mario Kart I've cared to own. Fantastic game.

  • KING K WUZ HERE 2011

  • The first time i heard this song i´vegot tears in my eye

  • I don't know why... but this version of Rainbow Road seems to have more emotion than the other more recent ones. Whenever I first heard this when I was 5, I pictured all of the racers' goals and ambitions as I passed over the colorful Skittles rainbow, seeing each of their faces in the background. That was always short-lived, for I would fly into the air from hitting road chomps.

    *Cough*VocaloidDTM'sathumbsupwhore*Cough*

  • @xehenort99 I know man! I would always think that they accomplished their goals and now their faces in the stars meant that they had died to achieve the goals they wanted. Anytime the picture to the current racer I had came around, I would say to my brother/friends that, that was his/her father/mother. Loved this game so much.

  • @xehenort99 Yeah that's called nostalgia.

  • @xehenort99 Thats because it is better than all the others

  • Me and my Daddy used to always play this game,Mario Party 1,2,3 and SBK2 :(

    I miss that time.......

  • its called a road, its called a rainbow road. it is a road that you go

  • Screw HD games, theres nothing compared to n64 and SNES, i remember when i came back from blockbuster i telled my friends, "I GOT IT!", nothing was better that a saturday night with 3 friends, some nachos and an N64 ;)

    "I miss you, N64"

  • @TheFlameandice2401 NES SNES N64 and DREAMCAST is where its at for the best classics. :) good times

  • @TheFlameandice2401 when i saw that nintendo was cloning the N64 with their 3DS, i was all for it, i grew up with the N64, and its nostalgia for me

  • @TheFlameandice2401 i agree with you... well... with less nachos, cuz mah Daddy is a Chef

  • @TheFlameandice2401 YOU WHAT?

  • @TheFlameandice2401 holy shit thats so on point.

  • @TheFlameandice2401 back then you didn't have to work to pay for the house over your head, electricity runnin' that n64, along with buying all the things that go along with it.

our parents did us good to give us games :D

  • @TheFlameandice2401 you have 64 likes lol ;)

  • @TheFlameandice2401 64 thumbs up, beautiful

  • I got this game for Virtual Console for Christmas. Ah, it was so fun! One of the best Mario Karts!

  • My mom and I used to play this game all the time, such sweet memories.;)

  • @japaneselizard immature 12 year old probably.

  • @japaneselizard i'd rather play it than play a repetitive series with generic gameplay.

oh, and i'm sure we'd all love NOT to get our bank details stolen.

  • @HulkHoganfan89 As long as you played it that's what matters.

  • People call this the WORST Mario Kart game? SHAME. In my opinion... That goes to Super Circuit. No offense. But this game is awesome.

  • This and the SNES Rainbow Road themes are my favorite tracks in the mario kart series.

  • Double Dash was better in every aspect.

  • There's only word to describe music like this: epic.

  • 11 people got hit by the chomps

  • noooooooo

    not enough wii points

    noooooooo

    dont own n64 ;(

  • I always find it shocking to see that this is known as the worst Mario Kart game.

  • @halo2redvsblue Is it really known as that? To me it's the best Mario Kart game ever and one of the 10 best games of all time!

  • @MarcusSDA

    here too!

i cant find anything that makes it not as good as the others.

  • @KonsolN I always thought Mario Kart 64 was the most successful Mario Kart game or atleast very successful. Because it has sold a good bit over 10 million copies worldwide.

  • Ah this song, so many failed attempts at taking the shortcut. So many laughs had at toad's expense, as he gets run over by a chain chomp. Good times.

  • I still play this game!

  • Best. Track. Ever. end of discussion. thumbs up if you think so too

  • i dont give a CRAP if this games about 15 years old. ill always play it. screw PS3, at least you dont get hacked on N64.

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK With all the respect for N64, but it doesn't have an online feature, so it can't be hacked lol

  • @PekRaimund exactly my point. i'd rather play groundbreaking classics on a console that has no online feature than play generic games where if you even dare to hit that "Playstation Network" button, youre putting yourself at risk of being robbed XD

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK Playstation ALERT xd

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK gaybox fan :(

xbox got hacked about 4 years ago

  • @123456789tahj ermm... did i ever say i was an xbox fan? no. i said i was an n64 fan. maybe think before you mindlessly type a comment next time

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK I do believe you went there. Nice.

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK I always liked the new, the old and even the emulators. Why not?

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK n64 doesn't get hacked because it doesn't have online lol idiot

  • @tuboricua123 N64: At least we don't leak passwords to hackers!

  • @ELLIOTEASTWICK yeah, screw xbox, computers, the internet, etc!!!! at least you don't get hacked on n64.

    you're stupid.

  • @Ugurcan2452 LONG LIVE MY COMPUTER~! Why? Because it has all of those :)

  • i love this game!!!!!!!

  • this course was too damn long..i dont care how GREAT the song is lol

  • how many of u fell off the side more than once (cough*) I Have but still No Matter How Much I Fall Off I Will Always Love This Game and Course :) Mario Kart 64 Forever!

  • YEAH Peachs got it

  • Rainbow road: always my favourite level in any Mario KArt and always the best theme in any Mario Kart.

  • This should be #1 on the VGM list. I'm a 1995 baby, and all I did WAS play N64. The late 90's generation of gaming makes me want to cry. I miss these games. Nintendo needs a N64 remake, like what they did with Goldeneye 007

  • @murphylee10 The list is not listed as such. The numbers are there for when they were uploaded.

  • Comment removed

  • My 9 year old has always been a fan of Mario games. He came into this world watching his cousins playing this game and just longing for the day when he could play. Before he was even one year old, he was trying to race this game but his infant hand were not coordinated enough yet. All I could hear was sounds of frustration as he tried to play, drive straight and turn corners.

One day I head him grunt and laugh out loud. He had finally figured it out and he hasn't lost a race since. He's Mario.

  • Imagine, when Nintendo dies... The world will have nothing but that FPS shit... My life will be over at that point, but the future generations will never know this game... That's what saddens me the most.

  • @Mariomaster091 Who said Nintendo's leaving?

  • @Mariomaster091

Dont worry. Sooner or later the hype will cool down and people will realize that FPS are not the very quintessence of video gaming. And once that day arrives there is a high possibility we may get to see some fancy new games again. FPS cant be "cool" forever. And then the FPS-generation will experience the same "pain" we had to go through and once that happens I will be there, dissing there beloved Call of duties like they did with games we loved. Looking forward to it ^^

  • Shenanagizn I see what you're saying. FPS m rated games are dominating now. But,2d platforming is on the rise.

However some 3D platform games are good

  • I see that this is from 1996, it's stupid that I was born in '97, because this tune is just plain awesome. :D

  • Easily one of the best mariokart tunes of whole mariokart series. I loved playing this map, and the music had much to do with it.

  • *sniffle sniffle* :')

  • 11 people forgot that indigo was a part of the rainbow.

  • I would play as donkey Kong simply cause he sounded like a total retard.. cracked everybody up in the room.

  • WAHOOO

    WAHOOO

    HERE WE GO

    WAHOOO

  • I remember when I fell off the cloud dude picked me up and put me down....Bowser hits me and I fall off again. The cloud dude picks me up again but sets me down near the booster thingy. I go forward only to boost off the road -_- 8th place again....

  • I remember when I was little I used to think this was the road to heaven and all the flashing faces were spirits.

    Long live Nintendo 64 :)

  • i lost nostalgia= lost

  • Nintendo and Sony really duked it out back in the day with amazing games.

  • Have you ever started the race on a boost and yelled: "FUKIN' EXTREAM!!!"?

  • COD HATERS UNITE!!!!

  • @ofkokf Fuck Call of Duty! :D

  • This song feels like it's on the way to the afterlife

  • @Tinercell82 NO! this is the sound of the 90's shinzantetsu put uit best

  • aw man i miss mario so much...they always brought a smile to my face as a child...everytime i played it seemed all of a sudden the sky got bluer and the sun got brighter all around me. it felt like beautiful, like going to a beautiful beach.

  • @godsangelfella Wow I guess I wasn't the only one! ^^;

(Living on a mountain in NC helped a lot. especially when you have a trampoline)

  • *sniff* Oh What I would give to go back. :)

  • Great days, golden age. Now it's all a bunch of stupid ass kids from 11-14 year olds playing war games like Call of Duty, Halo, Killzone, Counterstrike, and all those FPS games.

  • 80: RPG's (Role Play Games)

    90: TBC's (Turn Based Combat)

    2000: FPS (First Person Shooters)

    2010: FPS

    2020: FPS

see what happened to the gaming eras? (I'm just guessing on what the main gaming genre was back in the day...)

  • @Shenanaginz89 Dude, there's not that many FPS's. Seriously.

  • @Shenanaginz89 what are you, fucking gay?? do some research and back that statement up retard.

  • @Mr1337drummer thats a bit unfair

us gay guys play games as well =P

that person is what u should call an idiot

  • @Shenanaginz89 the 90s was more about platformers. and that's quite the generalization, considering 2020 is 9 years away. though i do agree, first-person shooters have taken over the industry, if not in number of games, then in the current attitude- some gamers think these are the only games worth playing

  • @salmonblox

Agreed. The only FPS's I like are Metroid Prime, and those even have a lot of adventure in them.

  • ALL HAIL NINTENDO! WAR ON C.O.D. AND HALO!

  • well, i know what i'm changing my ringtone to...

  • I can still hear the WAHOOOOOOOO's from the mushroom boosts!

  • THIS SONG MAKES ME FLY IN THE AIR
