  • I cant even begin to imagine how beautiful germany must have been before the bombing

  • it is beautiful, i was here in 2001 i loved it.

  • I studied in Rothenburg for 3 mos with the Goethe Insitut in September/October 2003 and February 2004. I have not studied since, but can still speak (more or less). Writing is difficult. It's easier to express myself in English for this.

Thank you for this video. I could SMELL the shops and walk from my home to school. It's magnificent. Thank you for the memories!

  • I been there, the city is beautiful! Wish i could live there, it's really amazing

  • Well, I am an amateur, and a seven-minute video is bound to be superficial. "Jejune" is probably a word you used to impress me, but it's ambiguous, so I'm not sure if you're accusing me of dullness or ignorance; the former is a matter of opinion, the latter I repudiate. The accent, however, is authentically my own.

  • The narration is amateurish, jejune, and superficial. Just don't try to emulate some sophisticated british accent.

  • My husband and I spent 2 days and nights there on our honeymoon in 2007. It was really nice and relaxing just walking the streets and exploring.

  • it's very boring to live there, but for visiting is this town ok...

  • i love to live there. such and impressive breathtaking town.

  • I'm leaving near that town and i think it's not so nice as it seems, it's just a little bit too much boring and you are not allowed to drive into the town on sundays, so please visit some more beautiful cities, this one isn't soo nice.

  • Sehr gut gemacht.

  • I was been there on August of 2008.....amazing place!

  • I love Rothenburg. I have visited twice and would love to be able to return again someday. Christmas time is the best time to go! Loved the schneeballen!

  • @DeBalaguer Thank you for the suggestion about the towns with a similar architecture. I will definitely take your advise and visit Rothenburg and maybe even a few other towns. It is just a matter of time.

  • It is coincidental that I happened on this post at this time of year two years after i first saw it and I still think you should make travel videos and market the to tourist groups! Merry Christmas and I'm glad to see your success here on Youtube!

  • I guess you can call it a dedication. Some called it a stupidity and even a waste of money. As far as I am concerned, art requires a sacrifice.

  • Excellent town. I am actually trying to reconstruct a part of it as my N scale railroad design. So far, I have spent nearly $20,000 dollars in 10 years collecting the buildings, Bavarian locks and rail cars. I wish they would make more replicas of different city buildings from Rothenbyrg, so that I don' t have to make them from scratch. I have never been there but I have watched some clips and printed out a lit of pictures. I dream someday to visit the town and see it from a different perspecti

  • @astas30dp $20,000? That's what I call dedication.

  • how many days should be spent in Rothenburg? are there any castles in the area to see?

  • Haha, Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng! Den Film hatte ich schon vergessen! Ach herrjeh, ist das lange her...

  • I and my uncle went their, and I cannot believe the beauty of the gothic architechture it just blends in with me,ooh man I wanna go back their soo bad, like I remember it was yesterday.

  • Sehr schönes Video von Rothenburg o.d.T.

Very nice video, i am happy to live there.

    Beste Grüsse aus dem Taubertal.

Best wishes out of the Taubertal.

  • I am surprised that you didn't mention the Kriminalmuseum, a monument to man's inhumanity to man. But you have very well captured the beauty of the city.

the statement, that tourism is rothenburgs main industry is simply wrong. only a third of its business volume is made in tourism.

  • Yes, you have to walk 'carefully' along the forticications, especailly in the night because I felt down from stairs there lol I agree with some others below that Rotherburg is indeed really lovely old city...the snowball tastes yummy, pretty shops for teddy bears & christmas, and a doll house musium...but I think other german cities are more interesting and beautiful to visit*^-^* Thank you so much for this very informative nice video with subtitle*^-^*

  • such a great medieval city. It would be better without thousands of japanese tourists, though :|

Truly a beauty old german town :) i wish i could live there.

  • I am vacationing in Rothenburg this summer and this video is very helpful. Now I know some sites I should keep in mind to visit. Thank you!

  • Great video! I was stationed in Illesheim for 3 and a half years and used to go to Rothenburg often. I love it!

  • Great video! Fantastic scenery and great narration. Would love to be there now!

  • is it a good place for a vacation?

  • Depends what you look for in a vacation. It's a beautiful old city with some very pleasant countryside around. On the other hand, it's full of American and Japanese tourists, and many things are there "for show", and not really authentic.

  • You gotta visit Rothenburg to the right times. Certainly, in May we have got countless tourists here, but visit Rothenburg in August or maybe even in September. To explore Rothenburgs real beauty I'd advise you to go on your own.

I live here since I was born, and when I take a walk through the inner town, the "old town", I see somethin new every time =)

But yes, you are right, most of the time Rothenburg is overfilled with tourists. December is the next rush hour ;)

    Greetz

  • hi are you from rothenburg germany?

cos you see im kinda obsess with this place do you know if there is a house for sale inside the walled town??

i haven't been there but i really love that place and i must say im totally obsess with this place.

  • you would have to call a Realtor or in german - Grundstuecks Makler. I wonder though, if you could even do that. You could probably rent a place - if there is one available - year round. I don't know the rules though.

  • right now i cant afford to buy a house and i don't even have a job either!

    lol

    but thanks for the hint!

I'm actually planning to move there and buy a house someday (hopefully*)

so you use to live in rothenburg before??

  • I agree with you. I lived there during my childhood. My father, Rolf Trexler owned the Puppet theater there. It was a great place to be a child . We lived next to the Markus Turm and there used to be a storch's nest up on top.. Luckily, even though there was some damage from the war, all was rebuilt, preserving the charm of this place. Our parents could just turn us loose to roam the town. it's great so see that all I knew is still there - the same way it was then. I loved Pfingsten the most

  • @Q3o5 We thoroughly enjoyed Rothenburg. I recommend traveling the entire "Romantic Road". Rothenburg is a beautiful city and recommend staying on the west end of town along the wall, so you can overlook the river. Be sure to take the Night Watchman's Tour.

  • 1:02 - most photographed place of Germany. Great city!

  • wow ...

The castle looks like a town rom the game gothic 3 ..

But i forget the name >.>

  • Whata the hell do you mean with "archetypal"?

    ???

Show me an archetypal german Town and I show you an exceptional one

BUT - these kinda videos are cool!

  • Unfortunately the "Gasthof zum goldenen M" (Inn to the golden M) aka McDonalds closed a few years ago. They had an impressive herald (inn sign) outside.

Just enter "mcdonalds rothenburg" into the Google image search and you can find some pics of it.

  • I life there, it iss a cool city, bit i dot really care about it... if you have questions, please ask me!!!

  • Thank god I could find your town. I visited your town when I was 14. I was looking for the town because I didn't remember the name. It was the most beautiful town I've ever seen.

Thanks to your town for remaining me beautiful memory when my life was most exciting.

  • My wife & I went there several years ago. Loved every inch of it. We walked the wall, climbed the church steeple, visited the Christmas shops (had to drag said wife away to keep our schedule) and ate at a small restaurant near the much photographed fork in the road. We drove down the Romantic Road from there to Neuschwanstain and Bad Tolz. Love Germany! Was stationed there for 31 months in the early 60's. Can't get enough of the castles, beer and brochen.

  • Tabor was spared an allied bombing or was meant to be spared a bombing because of its architectural and historical interest to Europe.

  • I was there today, great city.

But one correction, the city was bombed on March 31, 1945 by the USAAF and ca. 40% of the Old Town (the eastern part) was destroyed during that air raid.

But yes the major tourist attractions survived the wars and look the way they looked like centuries ago.

  • Many thanks for putting up this lovely video of Rothenburg. I've visited the town years ago. Have put this up on "Twitter" for others to see.

  • exellent video... much appreciated !! I am living in the Beautiful Pacific Northwest (USA) . (40 years now)

Was born in FRANKEN and been back LOTS of times to visit all the beautiful places there.

I love living where I am now, but enjoy your videos so very much!! Keep 'em coming especially of the Mainfranken area. Love your voice...

  • Very good video. Many interesting information. Nice pictures of all important sight seeing places in town. Thank you

  • OMG AT 1:06 there is the EXACT SAME hotel that we stayed at when we were there. If you ever go to europe, go to Rothenburg! Great food, good hospitaliy. It's truly an amazing city. It is now my favorite place in the world!!!

  • I've been there once. Very beautiful...

  • Glad I found this, We went there May 2005. There were not as many tourists at that time of the year. As an American I found the glittery red, white and blue cowboy hat and boot x-mas ornaments a little odd though. The deep-fried sweet dough balls seemed very Wisconsin-like. Of course, so does the rest of that part of the country, sans the pick-up trucks.

  • Sehr interesant. Danke!

  • A superb photographic tour. Thank you!

  • Rothenburg is so schön ich hab da lange gewohnt des is wirklich so schön :D

  • A truly wonderful city:-)

  • jop

  • Käthe Wohlfahrt ist toll! Von außen sieht das so klein aus. Und innen ist es einfach riesig!!

  • was that columbus day weekend? because that was when we were there

  • Well, I don't have a clue when Columbus Day was, but this was filmed on October 12, if that's any help.

  • Yes, that was when we were there.

  • richtig, alles matschig und sehr verschwommen.

    pseudo halbwissen

  • o! o! o!

das is doch schonmal gut ;)

  • Echt großartig, wie du deutsche Namen in das Englisch einbaust- ...tourists can visit one of the many shops run by Käthe Wohlfahrt... Mein Kompliment!

  • Thank you so much for providing us with whese lovely tours. This one may be your best yet. Excellent photography and your voiceover was impeccable! I look forward to many more. Perhaps you should develope a Tourism TV show?

  • You sound like you work for BBC news ;-p Good video, interesting and educational, I like it, thanks for making such a nice video :-)

  • In der nähe wohn ich xD

    Aber wirklich, super video!

  • Echt interessant, wusste ich alles nich, vielen Dank dafür. Natürlich mal wieder ne 1A Präsentation.

  • Gutes Video ... sehr gutes Video!

  • Yay! I love that town! I spent a night there on a road trip at Christmas and we walked around a big section of the city wall catwalk. You're right that the fortifications are impressive - I remember trying to see how you'd even begin to attack them. They seem to have thought of everything.

  • Huch.. sehr schön =)

Da war ich ja noch nie.. ^^

  • Ahhh, memories

  • Rothenburg is model for "Kakariko" a Town in the famous Videogame "Zelda - the Ocarina of time". Wich was made by japanese people by the way

  • coole stadt^^ fast uneinnehmbar xDD

  • Danke fürs Mitnehmen! Macht richtig Lust dort mal hinzufahren.
