yeah so some can play fast that doesnt mean shit in the spirit of music, real music is true emotion and letting yourself go in the beautiful harmonies now its just about who has the fastest arpegio, i think hendrix, staley, gilmore, bb king, john frusciante know whats up... like if you agree:D
@p0w3r96 The spacey swoosh sounds are achieved with a uni-vibe. It is not being produced under this name currently, though. If you want one check out the Fulltone Deja-Vibe, the Jam pedals Retro-Vibe, Roger Mayer's (inventor of the effect) Voodoo-Vibe or cheap ones like the soul- or pickle-vibe.
@mccoubrj That's David Gilmour, he wrote the guitar part. I think you need to listen to Pink Floyd more. This song is on The Dark Side of the Moon, it's a lot different than The Wall. You should also listen to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, I think it's the best psychedelic album of the '60s.
@MoreParksLessParking are you using satire? this is not a lesson, the person who downloaded this has just made up the title. This is from a Pink Floyd documentary. it has nothing to do with any lesson.
Thanks for the tip. I'm getting a Fender Strat Mexico tomorrow, my first electric guitar and I'm a huge floyd fan, any other tips on getting a gilmourish sound, please? :D
@Jonalexher If you want the tone of his solos on The Dark Side of the Moon, get a Fuzz Face for distortion. If you want the tone of The Wall, get an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff. You should also have a good amp. David Gilmour uses Fender a lot, if you have the money buy one of their tube amps. You might also need a delay. But remember that even if you have all of the exact stuff he used, you still won't sound like him unless you can play like him, and that will take a lot of practice.
One more thing, how many band's do you know that have been around since the 60's ? that's 50 + years. i've seen alot of band's come and go in my time but they've been around so long that everyone know's them young and old or you just don't get around music that much. thank's for posting them !
He's proven you don't have to be super fast to make it sound good, he just does. Their music has just the perfect arrangement's and great lyric's. If yall haven't seen David Gilmours- Shine on you crazy diamond acoustic version you need to check it out ! It is excellent and just a very humbleman.
"breathe" is nice because it gives me the feel of "great gig in the sky" within it.. i love david gilmour. easily one of the most influential musical genius.
I can hear the guitar breathe. I love how David can make the guitar sound like anything he wants it to. Beethoven said that music puts you in the mind of the composer, David's music is the epitome of such.
@SteveShivik I have a video on my channel that I did called "My Bedroom Studio" it shows a setup like the one for this song. I can't say exactly what David was playing in this video though.
@sportsportsport Yes, the Univibe is technically a phaser, the difference being that the Univibe uses staggered phasing filters where standard phasers use aligned filters....the staggered filtering gives you more of the "doppler" kind of warble....
@gibsongold1970 Indeed. Best quote I ever heard about David Gilmour was from Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, and it relates to what you said - the quote being "David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitar players can do with the whole fretboard".
If you ever watch interviews with him, it seems that like his playing, he considers what he is going to say, then says it with as few words as possible, but with maximum impact.
@everybody..........I'll fly over the pond and meet David in Pompeii any freakin' day, bring the goodies of choice and shoot to the moon old school for the memory of his good friend Rick *RIP* and good 'ol Syd. My keyboards come alive just thinking about the daze of playing Echoes by the pool for 12 hours at a time back in the day.
I met this guy in a pub in Fulham once. I was 22yrs old, new to London, and I thought the guy standing with a pint in his hand was Dave Gilmour... so I got up and asked him. Sure enough... But I hadn't long been introduced to the divine ecstasy that is DSOTM and the Wall.... and I was awestruck! I said something silly about him being better than Clapton, and he said, 'yeah, but you have to understand what Clapton's been through'. I felt silly and slunk back to my seat.
@555pontifex a friend of mine told me he used to pop into gigs by performers in and around London to see the talent...I think that's how he discovered Kate Bush years ago and financed her first demo tape. Cool story, I'd love to meet him
I think he sets a mood no one else can . It comes so second nature to him I suspect he sometimes wonders what is all the hype is about. Mr. Gilmour the hype is about the gift of your talent and the thankfulness we have that you got to share your genius with the world. The Floyd, one of if not the greatest bands of all time was the perfect medium to express your gifted talent, probably one of the most perfect accidents to ever happen.. God bless DG
he is very talented.almost like the rainman of music.i like the way he holds his hands and rubs them as he talks and kind looks at the camera from the top of his eyes...i think he has a tick..and i think thats just b/c he is so musically inclined that he would rather play than talk. he probably has music playing in his head constantly. would love to meet him.
Hey, wait a minute. He got that one part wrong!
Sorry. Just could't resist the temptation to say something completely and totally absurd.
