  • Is not the wave motion gun a thinly veiled metaphor for the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

  • First I thought: YAMATO CANNON ONLINE

Then I Was like: FIRE EVERYTHING!

  • You cannot fight da wave-motion gun!

  • Nice (blatant) editing at 2:35

  • The Gamilons' jaws must have hit the floor when they saw that.

  • Lest anyone think this only happens in cartoons, think again. The first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in august 1945 was ONLY supposed to destroy the 3rd Army Headquarters. Instead the whole city of Hiroshima died. Think about that for a second.

  • Because anything worth shooting takes 10 minutes to make sure its ready to fire.

  • @Fuzzboy100 Hehe agreed, if it takes that long to shoot once it must be awesome.

  • WAVE MOTION GUN!!!!!

  • "Wave Motion Gun" is the codename the CIA gave Chuck Norris when he wakes up every morning. When he wakes up, (Though he never needs sleep, he does it to pity us mortals) he instantly jizzes 400 megatons of radioactive blood which creates a wave of motion that can wipe out a continent.

The CIA yet has no defense against this incredible attack.

  • Cannone a Onde Moventi.... FUOCO!!!!!!!!!

  • Chuck Norris uses a wave motion toothbrush.

  • please fly back to earth and aim that fucker at the white house.

  • I remember in watching this in 70's; this episode in particular. I thought it was one of the most exciting things I ever saw at the time. I remember in school the next day it was all my friends and I talked about. Prior to that it was the Asteroid Shield.

  • @mikeybruises Same story.

  • What's to dislike about this video? It's awesome!

  • wish you had..their amenities... to fend off...your enemies

  • you know when the crew was pulling out the WMG, you were gonna get fucked up

  • @red03mitsu

    hell yeah..

Of course, you had about 5 minutes to head of in any direction they were not aimed at, and escape..

  • CAN YOU PICTURE THE STAR TREK CREW (60'S VERSION) ON STARBLAZERS?

  • @poothewinnie

Too bad Kirk's remodeled Enterprise didn't have a wave motion gun!

  • now that i saw that i will wait to 2199 to see yamato by myself

  • They didn't use the wave motion gun in every episode but when they did you were seeing something special.

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds fuck yea....they only brought that shit out on special occasions...that and the space warp

  • Used too much power? NEVER!! MORE POWAAAARR!

  • Interesting...

  • like the death star

  • No it's from the 70's I was kid when this was new:)

  • They realized that the use of the wave motion gun was best suited to those situations to where it really was needed...It was such a powerful weapon that it could do great damage unintentionally.

  • .... Or is the wiki page flawed? (as to be expected)

  • Help me out here. Ive been watching this on Syfy and wiki'd it. Is this the English translated "Star Cruiser" or the American made series? Id hate to call this anime if its rightfully isn't. Its still looking to be a good show so far.

  • @Mastermind8908

    1974 - Space Battleship Yamato

    1978 - Space Battleship Yamato 2

1979 - Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar (English translated SBY)

1980 - Star Blazers: Comet Empire (English translated SBY 2)

    1980 - Space Battleship Yamato 3

1985 - Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars (English translated SBY 3)

  • @RX78 Thanks, this helped. I get it now.

  • One thing I couldn't understand was why for the the first few episodes, anything on the ships' view-screens was blurred and like its underwater? The episodes Im up to look like it cleared up, but it was still odd.

  • Now that's some drama! I used to draw that ship all the time as a kid!

  • @PDXMILO: omg, I did too! Loved the gaping maw on the bow. What an epic show.

  • bien

  • Charging up is a sub-genre of anime.

  • My friends and I would rush home from school in the 6th grade to watch Star Blazers and talk about it on the phone cuz we were all latch key kids til our parents got off work. It was a great time! Great memories from 1978-79! Thanks for the post!

  • You know...this almost as if the Japanese were making a commentary on America's use of the Atom bomb on them. I'm not criticizing the US....this just seems like its a bit heavy handed of the writers to add all that ..."Moral of the Story" stuff...dont you think?

  • Damn Wave Motion.... YOU SCARY!!!!

  • The ultimate knock-out punch...they should have always used this from the door. It would have settled any problems and would havew kept less damage to the Yamato.

  • 2:25, the infamous goof of letting the yamato cell during the whole wave motion gun shot!

And oh, how such an epic music helped making ti so believable and solemn even back in the days...

  • OK folks. We need to design a brand new, really sweet space ship for our animated TV series. Anyone have any ideas?... No?... Me either. Well I guess we could just draw some shitty jets and rocket packs on a regular aircraft carrier and hope no one notices.

  • The Awesome Power Of The Wave Motion Gun! PPSSTT! IT KICKED ASS!

  • 16 peoplemust like pokemon...idiots

  • When I first saw this, I was in grade school. It made quite an impression back then. Still does.

  • Scifi channel is showing some form of Star Blazers starting tonight late, late night tonight, after Chrono Chronicles.

  • 15 Gamelans.

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME. THEY BLEW THE FUCK OUT OF A WHOLE CONTINENT. ok actually it was pretty lame.

  • Comment removed

  • We used too much power??? What? IMPOSSIBLE I TELL YOU! MORE POWAA!

  • phuck chuck norris.Jet-Li will be knocking instead.

  • heroin.

  • The Yamato (Argo) used the WMG as their ultimate firepower, but it took time to charge it up, and for the ship to recover after it fired. WMG did the job, but took both arousing and recovery for the ship. I,E., that was the Yamato cumming with its ultimate orgasm!

So sue me! But the original Space battleship Yamato was more adult-oriented!

  • As a kid, I remember being very confused by the animation error at 2:15

  • I only saw part of 1 episode when i was a kid and it greatly effected me...

  • OMG! I loved this show when I was a kid. It was hard to find, and it was piece-y on a couple of channels, even though the episodes were in sequence. I think I was too young to realize that it was a cosmic version of a war ship! I never thought I would see it again. Of course, I can't believe how phallic it all is. Between the shape of the ship, the wave motion gun and the fact that this was probably the only cartoon where the people were good looking!!! Cool.

  • The bastard child of a battleship and the Death Star. Maybe with a little Chuck Norris thrown in for good measure.

  • I think it's so cool to know that captain Avatar didn't die and comes back in one of the movies.

  • shoop de woop?

  • Still the coolest sound effect ever!!! I hope they use it in the live action movie.

  • What a sweet weapon. The most powerful weapon in the universe.

  • I forgot how violent that show was.

  • We just learned a powerful lesson about Aesops.

  • THIS IS A REAL CARTOON !!!!

  • Dislikers are certainly Gamilons

  • HEYYYYY the original words were NOT as lame as "wave motion gun" it is called "HADOHO"! and sounds cooler in Japanese! omg i just returned to when i was just a 5 year old kid in Japan... and the name of the ship is

UCHUU SENKAN YAMATO"! not fuckin "star blazzers"

  • HEYYYYY the original words were NOT as lame as "wave motion gun" it is called "HADOHO"! and sounds cooler in Japanese! omg i just returned to when i was just a 5 year old kid in Japan...

  • I remember this show!!!!!! Looking for DVD's

  • I saw this show everday as child in the second grade, I would get excited when they use the Wave Motion Gun. At 37 I still remember the characters the music and the ship. I did not know the name of the ship till now.

  • The 13 people that dislike this need to prepare for recoil shock as soon as I smack their dumbass.

  • @GrayGhost8 - Chuck Norris is already searching for them, roundhouse kick is already cocked :-)

  • @jirimar C. Norris is too busy promoting an exercise table and "I got got mine and the Hell with you"

And besides Bruce Lee kicked his tail.

  • @GrayGhost8 your retarded comment made it 14.

    asshole

  • @popolynn2 kid toucher

  • @GrayGhost8 U mad

  • @GrayGhost8 just smack them w/ the Wave Motion Gun...

    Gawd, I loved this cartoon..

  • @GrayGhost8

Yes, I must agree, who are these people??

  • @GrayGhost8

more like they got caught in the blast

  • Its a shame that the series was so heavily bowdlerized. It seems like every time they attack someone they usually come up with some way that nobody gets killed. Is there any way to get the uncut version of the series?

  • Classic! This still sends chills down my spine. If you're a bad guy on the business end of the WMG...your day just turned to sh!t.

  • "Where could they get SUCH PAWEEeeEEEeeR ?!?"

  • @Bastionnaire Please, God, make this the start of a new internet meme!

  • It was beautiful,.....

  • LOL @ "Correcting for magnetic drift". Only a superconducting magnet owned by GOD and made of ninjas would move that thing off target...

  • Floating continent: Buggered Starforce (Argo): 1. Gamilons are losers! LoL

  • I always thought the "wave motion gun" kind of sounded like a horse in serious distress. It's quite possible that Jovian type planets DO have "floating continents", thoug probably not NEARLY as heavy as this one would seem to be...

Oh Gawd, I forgot about "Sandor". I just realized: this was sort of a cartoon version of "Battlestar Galactica"...

  • @shmuli9 Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica were inspired by Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers.

    1966 - Star Trek (1st TV series)

1974 - Space Battleship Yamato (1st TV series)

    1977 - Star Wars (1st movie)

    1978 - Battlestar Galactica (1st TV series)

btw if you like Star Wars, look at my favorites (George Lucas talks about the influence of samurai movies on Star Wars, Darth Vader vs. Japanese Police).

  • @RX78 That makes a sort of sense, as I'm fairly sure things like the communicators on 'Star Trek' influenced the design of 'flip phones', and I'm sure the gloomy sci-fi films of the early 70s probably had a LOT to do with the 'environmental movement' (because the movies were made, there WASN'T total environmental collapse, a nuclear war, underground cities ruled by tyrants, or any of the other lovely things they predicted would happen by 2000)

  • *sigh* seriously? I'm the one who has to do this? Ok fine.

    IMA FIRIN MAH LAZAR!!! BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Watching the WMG fire takes me back to the days when you actually had to get off your butt in order to change the TV. Back when Saturday mornings used to MEAN something in this country. What did the WMG and Voltron's blazing sword have in common? When either was used, the ones catching the business end wasn't going to be invited back for the next episode....

  • The Wave motion gun would destroy the death star...

  • @36933A1E No shit, Sherlock.

  • Oh...my...sh!t!! I used to come home from school and watch this and Battle of the Planets.

  • Oh my soul!! i remember this when I was a kid!!!

  • What a great anti-american nuclear weapon message. I'm getting rid of all my nukes.

  • How r u going to have a weapon of that power n not know how strong it is. The damn cannon destroyed a whole freaking continent n u didn't kno it was capable of doing that -_-

  • @Angel0061000 If I recall correctly, the wave motion technology was not developed by humans, but was sent to earth in a message from Iscandar along with an offer of assistance against the Gamelons. The humans merely followed the specs in their desperation to find a way to fight back. So no, at that point they didn't know the true power of the wave motion technology.

  • @Angel0061000

They didn't know how powerful the nuke was either until they fired it.

There are plenty of LOL vids on here of people dicking about with shotguns/large calibre pistols. They also didn't know what to expect ;P

  • "Hey baby, wanna take a ride on my wave motion gun?"

I use that line all the time but for some reason it never works :(

  • Nice! Love the Cold War era lesson at the end.

  • I'm hard............!

  • これはひどい。なんて陳腐な声優陣なんだ・・・

  • @accesscom Call it a terrible dub all you want. I'm sure that most of us in North America had never seen an english subtitled version of any Japanese animation back when this was on the air. More to the point, it would never have been on TV in the first place. I'm just glad I was able to see it at all.

  • Still gives me goosebumps.

  • It doesn't take that long to fire every single time, surely? In the time they took to fire that, a guy in a spacesuit could have spacewalked from a nearby planet, clamped onto their ship, and thrown a grenade down the gun barrel.

Come to think of it, in the time they took to fire, the guy in a spacesuit could have destroyed the Yamato with a hammer.

  • I was sure wildstar was gonna fuck it up

  • Secure all animals in the zoo, cancel day care, feed my fish, not too much, ok, fire!

  • what a powerful weapon.

  • If I remmember this was the very first time they used it.

  • @Sage2000 - hence "test fire" in my description! :-) hehe

  • The best anime series ever (released in the US)

  • Allegorically they just dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. The Japanese sure have a healthy perspective on life to make a cartoon like this.

  • im glad some crazy jihad S>O>B> cant get his hands on this MF!!!!

  • That was a looot of Dakka, I could almost say it was too much Dakka, but you can never ever can have too much of it... Cool!

  • @espp1973

big shoota, too much dakka, more choppy

  • @YukonBloamie Oy mate, you're rigth, need more choppy for the WAAAAAAGH .

  • @espp1973

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!

Dem 'Umies kill da blue 'Umies but dey can't kill deez 'Boys!

  • @YukonBloamie ere we go, er we goo!!!!

  • 30 years later, I still friggin' love this! Lookin 4ward 2 the flic.

  • Marcy Playground :> hehehe

  • That was nasty!

  • If the live action movie is true to this, then it will kick all unholy amounts of ass. Please bring it to the US!!

  • if only my Toyota had that kind of power...

  • @taufactor LMAO !!

  • Loved this show, they donot make them like this any more....

  • It's aaaaall yours, Wildstaaaar.

    That;s okay, I've still got 361 days

  • SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO!!

  • -when you fire the wave motion gun, you will ruin someone's day, somewhere and sometime!-

  • wow it shoots 6 miles away in space?

  • @KristaMachine That's not much at all. Read the specs on the original Yamato. It's 18 inch main guns could fire a shell the weight of a VW 25 miles.

  • only 361 days left, i wonder if they made it.

  • Where could they get such power. Only 361 days left.

  • YAMATO!

  • @eclairvoy

Yamato all the way . not argo

  • Chamber pressure at saturation point...HOLY SHIT!!!

  • Such power is a great responsibility!!

  • sci fi at its absolute best !

  • Man, I loved these cartoons when I was younger! When I read these posts, I searched the web for these episodes and I found that Barnes and Noble can has these. B&N had a sale, buy 2 series and get the 3rd free, so I ordered mine.

  • You know, any gun that takes that long to actually fire is pretty useless.

  • I actually made a Popsicle stick model of the Argo. Turned out pretty well, though it met it's demise in a horrific battle.

  • woo hoo! I love star blazers!

  • Beats the crap out of the Shoop da woop lazer!

  • Comment removed

  • how did they expect me to pass fourth grade math between cartoons this damned good and a smoking hot teacher from new jersey with jet black hair and tits so big they could have docked the Argo in her cleavage???

  • They actually did use the wave motion recoil to free the ship in one episode. They had to get past a bunch of safety protocals to allow the firing to push them free ot the trap they had fallen into.

  • @mxrdvr i remember that episode, it was when they were stuck in a magnetic tube-like asteroid lol.deslok was about to use his own version of the wavemotiongun or reflex gun(forget the name of his shit) but they barely escaped(as usual).

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII

Desslock had the SMITE weapon lol

  • can't mess with the WMG.

  • how do they get the power back after they fire and if all power goes to the gun how are they breathing??? still this series was the shit!::)

  • @vlunney they switched to energizer batteries, perhaps??

  • I always ran home from elementary school to watch this show. It brings back great memories of when I used to draw the Yamato. Almost 30 years ago.

  • @migcas10 same here. i always ran home to watch this shit,a nd i still have my drawings of the argo from when i was a kid..i even wrote my own story version of starblazers lol, still have that too. along with starwars and superfriends. yeahhh!!!!

  • check my page on face book look up

I Used To Run Home To Watch Star Blazers

  • @marcanthonywebs hell y eah. couldn't mess with the argo.

  • Man, what tension!

  • This and Robotech I miss my childhood.

  • Wow Venture's got muscles!

  • how do they get the power back after they use the gun?

  • My brother used to tell me that he loved the sound of the wave motion gun....since he's no longer with me, I put this in my favorites so I never forget him.

  • "get naked watching star blazers"

  • Have fun with your fagaruto whippersnappers!!!1!!(3-2)!

  • Wave Motion Gun - Apply directly to floating continent.

Accurate aim is optional and not required.

  • loved this growing up.

  • Favourite Cartoon Ever.

  • Now thats a serios weapon.... dont mess with Starblazers!! Love the cartoon i got part of the collection... :)

  • "WHERE could they get SUCH POOOOWEEEER!" 4:14

  • Comment removed

  • This was a definite reference to nuclear technology and our use of it against the Japanese to end World War II.

  • "We just learned a very important and awesome lesson. This gun is the shizit. We wtfpwned that continent."
