Gears of War on max setting w/geforce 7950 gt

I don't get it. Is it just that the unreal engine 3 is ridiculously good? I mean. You can run these BEAUTIFUL games at max settings with like a sucky card.

@misticsniper 7950 GT isn't exactly sucky. My girlfriend still uses her old 7950 GT. I also have another friend that uses his still. The 7950 GT will still run the majority of games maxed out at decent res. My girlfriend loves Bioshock and she maxes Bioshock 2 out on this card. We also play a lot of Left 4 Dead together, Left4Dead 2 is maxed out easily and I NEVER see a drop in framerate. A 7950 GT may be about half as powerful as a 8800 GT, but for the most part you won't see any difference.

@misticsniper i actually JUST ordered a pair of 7950 GX2s for $60 each. together they are as powerful as a 9800 GX2 at about $80 cheaper. the reason why 7950 got a bad name after the 8800 release was because they added unified shaders. so they could use them for pixel shading or vertex shading as necessary. so 8800 series pulled ahead in vertex shading 3dmark scores and made the increase look even bigger. as long as you don't need direct x 10+ then you're fine with this card in most games.

on my pc, with same videocard, get about 40-45 fps @ maximum/minimum settings and ut3 get less fps of GoW... about 40

To mileyman9: At 1680x1050 resolution I get anywhere from 27-52. This game is very buggy and I can't get accurate readings with the checkpoint skips, FRAPS averages in the 2fps. UT3 runs 10 times better on my pc than gears of war.

I'm a hardcore UTer and these cards are cheap as hell on ebay now, think its worth picking one up to play UT3 with?

Right now I'm running a 128 bit ATI 9800 Pro, so I should expect miles of difference in performance right? The whole DX10 thing doesnt bother me in the least, as I a primarily a UT/MMO gamer.
