  • Is it bad that I like a married man?

  • Thumbs up if you checked your wrists :P

  • I can't put into words how much I love Zach Condon.

  • probably one of the most talented individuals in a while.. :)

  • Met him in Houston a few days ago....Lovely young man!

  • Don't get me wrong, I adore beirut and Zach but in this video he seems rather arrogant.

  • He used to be more famous...

  • Probably THE most interesting and creative musician of this generation. Zachary Francis Condon is a genius. His work with Beirut is stunning, he is an exceptional writer, musician and multi-instrumentalist. He is my idol. I cannot express how big an influence he's been, both on my music (I'm now obsessed with ukuleles and brass instruments), but also on my creativity. The Gulag Orkestar is the perfect soundtrack to my life. Thank you -3

  • I've watched nearly every interview with him and he is just awesome. So eloquent, knowledgeable, humble, and talented. Zach it is my dream to meet you one day.

  • God....HE'S BEAUTIFUL.

  • Who is his girlfriend? I'm jealous!

  • @britishtwiggy Kristianna Smith. She's a photographer, which is what I want to be! I. Am. So. Jealous.

  • @inlovewithbeirut Make that his wife Kristianna Smith... It's sweet though because she appears in the video for Postcards For Italy and a few of the La Blogotheque videos and maybe the song 'My Wife' has something to do with her... but maybe without her Zach might not be as inspired as he his with her... maybe? So in a way it's a good thing... but god dammit it she makes us jealous. ;)

  • @FrannyLovesUkuleles Yes she definitely does :----( but her work is so good. I can't help but like her!

  • saw him yesterday!! BEST DAY EVER!!!

  • he's got to be one of the most talented musicians alive right now.

  • Melinh, you're driving me crazy!

  • ALSO another thing that, like, I JUST noticed: For those who have heard March of the Zapotec, at 1:54-2:10, doesn't that sound A LOT like The Akara? Or is it just me?

  • @bitterman188 That's because those the same two chords he plays in "the Akara", he was just playing them as arpeggios.

  • @bitterman188 yeah he's playing akara

  • Is it weird that I like his odd wrists?

  • @yellownewsoul Nope. There's beauty in imperfections. It's endearing.

  • @yellownewsoul i love them :)

  • ele tem piolho :)

  • I came.

  • holy crap. this guy knows his music. his love for it is apparent.

  • O.o he's an amazing person...beautiful voice, good looking, can play so many instruments...marry me!!!

  • I want to marry him......O_o!!!!!!

  • he is so weird.. but I like it :D

  • anyone except me who also can not match the elbows like zach?? dont ask why i tried it...

  • he even made that homemade thing sound cool. almost like a blacknwhite movie tune..

  • @chree2008 or like blues

  • genius

  • mmmmmm........ <3

  • what a wonderful person

  • es una de las pocas personas que admiro

  • te amo zach condon!!!! es un geniooooooooooooo

  • that may have been the best 4:07 minutes of my Sunday night life. ever.

i love Beirut, Zach Condon, and all his musical instruments. :)

  • Reminds me of Jack White

  • did i just heard the word girlfriend ??? oh my :(

  • is that a concert or tenor ukulele i cant tell?

  • @rgvt89 i think he usually uses tenors. i bought an acoustic/electric concert a while back, and it's pretty little.

  • He pulls off Edward Cullen hair better than Cullen himself.

  • Why is it that some guys have it all and some have nothing at all?

  • @nenahena Then again if it were all divided equally there'd be nothing special to point out. (: But God damn, I WANT this man. ):

  • @xImSoSickx He's beautiful. i can't seem to find a negative side...

  • He's fabulous. And so articulate!

  • genius

  • Comment removed

  • Aww, he can't reach around.

  • what song is he playing on the uke!!

  • @oo7liu he was just toying around on it, he wasn't playing any of his songs in particular. i've actually learnt how to play what he played in this interview though because i thought it sounded so pretty haha

  • Insanely talented. I hope he sticks around for quite a while

  • was that ukulele a tenor?

  • @karatekween33 it's a lanikai lu-21t tenor

  • @buyyumbumbum It's a Bushman BU7CV (Concert cut-away)

  • I love his wrists, they are so unique... haha

  • Finally an interesting interview actually focussed on music!

  • Zach, I have to let you in on a little information... Listen to Andrew Bird and you will hear you with a little less milky voice. I find it immensely amusing that you are toying around with strumming the violin because that's what Andrew Bird does! If you guys ever had a show together, I think I would I cry I would be so happy. Seriously, you and Andrew Bird are my favorite.

  • @finksterberry Wow...God, thats what I was thinking, he sounds like Andrew.... Then I like milky voices :D

  • @straynekokami720 haha, yeah. when I first listened to Beirut I thought it was really early andrew bird or something. milky voices are great!

  • @finksterberry It's nice to know that, I just thought the same thing too :) Viva Zach! Viva his Milky Voice! ... Viva Andrew Bird too!

  • 1:54, oh, marry me.

  • that's insane! Love it!

  • well I like him, and I like his speaking voice... I think he's really cute and of course, his musics are like omg.

    I looooooooove him.

I want him to come back to brazil soon!

  • his speaking voice is not what I expected it to be

  • he gets such a beautiful sound out of all the intruments he plays

  • look at those Joan Crawford eyes

  • For all the Fans from Zach i have upload all tracks from his "Joys of losing weight" album that he recorded as he was 15 years old. Check it out.

  • Lmao he names 9 instuments and he says " you know whatever was in front of me" ...a very underrated prodigy haha

  • Easier to play it like a mandolin as the violin and mandolin are both tuned GDAE whereas the uku is GCEA

  • Prone to paroxysms of rage I suppose - that's hot ;)

  • He gave the man a pizza and you call him an asshole?

  • so there was feedback, and he whipped out a pizza while playing?

  • obviously not, after the show the manager bought the band + crew pizza. Condom threw his at the monitor guy

  • just because he has a good voice and can write good music doesnt mean he can treat people like shit

  • Woah! What a douche! When did they come down to Aus? Did they make it to Melbourne?

  • His album The Flying Club Cup was amazing. By far my favorite album by him. I'm currently obsessed with the song Un Dernier Verrer (Pour la Route) by Beirut.

  • The thing I think I admire most about zach is how he never comes out all flashy for his shows. He comes out just like a normal person and lets his music do the talking!

  • check out andrew bird's WHY? its amazing and he fingerpicks the violin at the beginning of the song

  • Zach, my friend. It's pronounced: fah-doo not fah-doh

hehe, you'd think he'd know after studying portuguese.

  • haha i know incredible i like how he just broke out into Brandenburg on an effing violin!!

  • Gotta love the 1:23 when he breaks out the uke.

  • Amo, amo, amo!

  • this guy is fucking great

  • GENIUS !

  • God. he is amazing.

  • He. Is. Beautiful. In so many ways.

  • @pear4112 yes, yes he is

  • @pear4112 so many ways, except looks.

  • @pear4112 Agreed.

  • Conch shell master. I wish my trumpet skills were up with his.

  • He can play a shell with finer vibrato than I can on a 2,000 dollar brass trumpet (is that awesome or sad?)

Respect from a jazz band freshman in Nor Cal :)

  • looked like he was going to break down at the end of the interview. I like the first 2 records, not much of a fan of march of the zapotech.

  • I think there's a 2 or 3 good songs on there, like La Llorona, but it's definitely not up to par with what preceeded it.

  • one word. underrated

  • most ever talented guy!!!!am addicted to elepha..gun I listen to it every day and I always wish I was young !! I would flee this !!! fucking town!!..it express me so in and out!!!one in this world really materialize my situa..

  • underrated i tell you. underrated

  • I love his music, and the gypsy feeling he gives to his songs.

  • talented&hot.

  • I am telling you, this man is an absolutely amazing artist and surely does not get enough credit as he deserves. Absoltutely amazing.

  • this man has always been a genius. unmatched.

  • It was how the brass instruments came to be, by people giving notice to the sound that came out of a conch shell. A shell is ovbiously NOT brass but before there were actual brass instruments, it was the closest thing to one. From then on, they started to come into existance. Pay more attention and think about it...

  • what, its a legitimate question.

  • @joebrochill92 not material you dumb fuck, brass is also a category of instrument

  • The same way a piano is percussion.

  • um a piano strikes chords to make sound

  • "A brass instrument is a musical instrument whose tone is produced by vibration of the lips as the player blows into a tubular resonator."

Now what happens when he plays the conch shell? Exactly.

  • pretty vague definition. i can create tones with many normal objects.

  • own ownn i think he's magical ! and so daaamn hot *.*

  • The dude can play a shell. He is my hero, in every possible way.

  • dude, he can play a shell...

    HE IS AMAZING :)

  • biggest homie ever

  • this man is AMAZING!

  • He seems otherworldly! I think he's amazing! I'd love to spend a day with him!

  • im with ya on that one :)

  • he's so great! i always look for bands with qualities like beiruts and nothing ever compares. ever.

  • agreed

  • This is a real artist, his music is genius. Great way to start the morning some days. Great way to get me through the tough days.

  • i adore him his music is beautiful and so is he lol i hope one day as i stroll around nyc before class i can run into him lol what a way to start the day that would be lol

  • wonderful musician!!! ♫

  • ohhh i love you zach<3333

  • Is that the same Lanikai LU-21 on the St. Appolonia Video?! Heh, he was playing Brandenburg on the violin, not to shabby!

  • Um, no, he doesn't play a Lanikai. He plays a Bushman Jenny Tenor, in this video and the one for St. Appolonia.

  • Actually it is a Lanikai LU-21 Concert in this vid not sure about others tho :/

  • zach condon. you are truly amazing.

hey zach! I live in albuquerque! People like you make me a proud new mexican

  • he is a brilliant !

  • why is the band called beirut? weird

  • he's a traveller....he said once "it was like a joke, i travel a lot and i said "where's the place i've never been?...and it was Beirut. I dont know Lebanon"

    Thats why

    =)

  • He's so beautiful.

  • so it IS pronounced tamber...

  • what type of guitar is that ? i really don't understand what name zach says it is ..thanks!

  • it's a uculele (? -i don't konw how to write it) ;)

  • thanks !

  • it is a UKULELE =)

  • wooohoooo...i knew it! ;P

  • it's a ukelele

  • ukulele

  • in some languages, is also called ukelele

  • Shame he cant play guitar or violin or any of those, ild say he could write some pretty good songs on em if he could!!

Still his music never fails to impress me!!!

  • hey i'm portuguese we doesn't use the instrument for "fado",but still best band in the world

  • in portugal its called cavaquinho not ukulele.

it's frequently used in academic bands (tunas, not the fish).

  • zach condon, you wonderful musician, you beautiful soul, and intricate mind!

make music that comes from your heart and just do what you love!

to hell with the "pressure" there is no such thing. your talent will always shine through and your genuine and true relationship with your music will seriously always conquer all. i love beirut and always will regardless of what you do. as long as it is true to you.

  • Damn, this guy makes the best music

  • I can tell that he was such an ordinary guy before his fame, and he probably looks back on those days like her knew nothing then. If I ever become famous, I will make some sort of tribute to Beirut.

  • He looks really tired... Poor guy :/

Fame is a relly complicated stuff...

  • aww Zach just seems so tired, and sensitive :( like, he knows his music means the world for do many people, and he wasn't expecting for it to happen, or at least so soon. but he's a musical genius, and he's really cute :)

    GO ZACH!

  • oh Zach.

    i love you...

  • it seems like he might cry at the end there.

  • yeah that's true. I wonder why?

  • Poor guy. He must have been soo tired.

  • terrific.

  • aww to the max! :D
