  • fuck this game was gppd!

  • @angeloCOZ good^

  • Look at those fucking awesome graphics! Even though we have better now, I can still totally appreciate them.

    Kind of.

    In a way.

    A bit....

    Well, uh....

  • @hehfilms System Shock 1 looks better than 2. Civilization 1 looks better than 5. etc. Graphics are very much about shapes and colors/palette. With larger resolution, while more detail may be added, it can also end up revealing a lack of detail. Favorite example: Hand painted details/scenes could look pretty nice in 320x200 in many old games as details were perfected pixel by pixel to give perception/impression and allowing imagination to "anti-alias" it by not having peripheral detail in focus.

  • @fourbarposer And?

  • @hehfilms And what? I was trying to explain how it's possible that old game with simple graphics can look better than new game with lots of detail. In this particular video I'd highlight the color/palette of the terrain/mountains, very effective. I used to play lot of flight simulators and the graphics just got worse over time because even as details and resolution increased, the palettes became much more boring as they prob. attempted to match some not too compelling but realistic photos.

  • @fourbarposer Except for the fact that "better" is subjective and was beside my point that this game looks like shit.

  • @hehfilms for some reason this particular video does look terrible, but the game typically had much better graphics than this. there were like 5 different versions of the non-expansion mechwarrior 2.

  • Step 1) Select Nova

    Step 2) Group fire, engaged

    See you later

  • These robot voices reminds me so much of my childhood, loved this game, nostalgia!

  • How do you fly?

  • @DaftFanPunk install jumpjets and press J.

  • I miss these games. It was just so much more fun back then for some reason. Ya the graphics were crap...but back then I thought they were awesome!

  • this game looks like shit, but it's awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • Man, we just thought these graphics where the shit back then, didn't we?

  • Seriously i had good times with Half Life in 1998 but this game was just fucking badass.

  • Nostalgia TO THE MAX

  • @ENIGMATICentity Thanks for watching! :)

  • i bet from a third person view this looks like a cinematic

  • im a fan of vintage/abandon games... and mecwarrios is one of my biggest myteries bc i havent found a copy of the game. Is there any raliable place to download it?

  • @Camilo21986 ebay is the best place to obtain mechwarrior 2. Mech2 nor any game unless it is given up by the author is abandonware.

  • @SirxMMPD you are totally right... so vintage would be the proper word?... and about ebay.. well XD.. there must be better ways :D thank you for your asnwer. Great video i still looking at it.

  • @Camilo21986 yep, vintage i'd agree with. :) Well, netmech is free. Activision offered that up to everyone free of charge way back in 1996. As for better places to buy the full game... i'm afraid that the only places I know of to get mech is amazon and ebay. The problem with amazon is close to 70% of the time when you purchase a copy from there it is the wrong version of mech2. Ebay is easier because it shows pictures usually of the disc. Anywho, Thanks for watching!

  • @SirxMMPD i want to ask you one last think.. sorry.

How do you record the video and sounds of the game? i would like to do something like this but with battlezone... or warcraft.

  • @Camilo21986 no worries. Well, this one probably was recorded in vmware when i recorded it. With that it does not record sound so I recorded the audio with another program and then synced them up by hand. Fraps does not record this particular version of mech2 or I would have used it. These days for mech2 i use either camstudio or dosbox itself to record mech2 or fraps if it is available. If it is a DOS game the simplest way is DOSBOX. Windows d3d game fraps.. or if it is in vmware camstudio.

  • @SirxMMPD one last thing.. XD (correction)

  • You are an awesome mech warrior. I have to say I enjoyed watching your firemoth fight. I will be watching some of your other video's to. Perhaps one day we can ROBO-BATTLE!

  • @backfire357 Thanks :)

  • You used a custom config on the firemoth?

  • I loved this game as a kid. One of my favorite sounds is the missle lock on.

  • OH..... what a game! I played it really a lot! I do remember well "enemy mech destroyed" and so on. Sweet memories!

  • Man, I loved this game so fucking much. I mastered the art of lagshooting on mplayer.com with my ollld fucking modem. Wasn't even 56k. Some of my earliest online gaming. =) Good memories man.

  • Sumethin about MW2 that just seem so much cooler to play than 3 and 4

  • Oh man, I remember playing this game like crazy back when we had a power mac 1100. LOL, I remember netscape.

  • Oh man, I remember playing this game like crazy back when we had a power mac 1100. LOL, I remember net scape.

  • god i remember this game was so sick when i was young, and how i felt like a total G when i got in one of them

  • Thumbs up if you liked shooting off the legs and arms of the mech before killing it :D

  • Image enhancement is reeealy improve the situation there )))))

    Damn how good it was.

Each gamer has his own reality pulled on this basic structure.

In memory of MW2 i have recreated intro in the a little bet advanced manner.

So when you'll got minute - check it.

  • @Anymuster cool

  • @Anymuster Really reall well done remake. Good job!

  • Eines der besten Spiele die ich in meinem Leben gespielt habe!

  • AHHH! The memories. I sucked at this game, but i was only 6 or 7. I loved it! And Ghost Bears Legacy! I have never played any other Mechwarrior games but this started me off on a long standing interest in BattleTech. I still love the Clans despite the fact the new ones make them look evil. The only other one I have tried was Mech Assualt which is an abortion of a game. Can't wait for the new MW :)

  • ENEMY TARGET...DESTROYED.

    Fucking loved this game.

  • MW4 doesn't hold a candle to this.

  • dude this is throwback... i used to play this game religously

  • man i love the computer voice in this game

  • Comment removed

  • dis game was so nasty.. came with sidewinder controller ;D

  • Is that... Kali on your desktop?

    Wow.... oldschool.

  • heh yah

  • I still feel that the missile lock and missile salvo launch sound (in particular) effects from MW2 are the best in the series thus far. I wish they'd consider using the original recordings of those effects reproduced in higher quality for today's faster machines.

It shouldn't be too difficult since, I'm certain the original audio samples would've been recorded in a much higher quality than what was ultimately released with the game.

  • this came with my Sidewinder joystick. kick ass.

  • @DonLduk Oh man I wish I saved my Sidewinder. =((

  • i like the music but no the game....:/

  • amazing how this game still looks great.

  • I have windows XP and i wish i could play this, is there any way i could? PLZ REPLY

  • please check the website mentioned in the top right of the video.. or watch one of the video tutorials in my profile. :)

  • thanks man

  • This game was great...I used to play it all the time when i was little! =D

  • how do you override the shutdown sequence?

  • hit o

  • press "o" but be careful you may explode if you continue to produce heat. lol

  • what mech are you using?

  • Firemoth

  • hate the graphics but luvvvv the gameplay!

  • Agreed

  • it sorta sucks... I remember playing this game with my dad when I was really little (probably 5 or 6) but not really enjoying it because the computer's voices scared me ...

Now, i found the old disk and want to play it, but can't get it to run on any of my computers!!

  • Check out the install guides at the website or the install video which you can find on my channel.

  • need dos

  • @1counterss1 *correction to previous post*

This video was not recorded in DOSBOX and was in the 95 version. I played it in vmware so it would record properly.

  • @1counterss1

I've bought an old copy before and my laptop wouldn't accept it :(

  • I miss this game

  • i remember this game came with my ibm cpu. i never could figure out how to play it. haha. the graphics remind me of starfox super nintendo.

  • damnnn i rmbr playing this when i was 11 years old and panicked cause i didn't know how to make my mech stop sprinting around.

  • shutdown sequence initiated......how these words vexed me.

  • "Shutting down" still aggrevates the crap out of me in MW 3 whenever I play it.

  • @mark10001110101 The sad thing is that I always used to sit there and take it, I didn't know there was a way to cancel it..

  • i miss this game so much. when i played it as a little kid i remembered i would get scared if other mechwarriors would start coming at me lol

  • The only way to play this game is with a full Thrustmaster setup with F-16 mock up flight stick and throttle, and rudder pedals. SO MUCH FUN!!! This was the only Mechwarrior game I've ever played, and as much as I liked it, I'm surprised I didn't play more of them.

  • God, I need to get back to playing this game. It's been ages since I've last done this!

(Probably will hook my computer to my 42" living room HDTV just for this. Sadly, I'll have to use a stretched 4:3 image to 16:9, don't ask why.)

  • I love the bright, almost cubic graphics. Love the simplicity.

  • I always hated the Image Enhancement when I played as a kid, but looking back I never realized how handy it would have been.

  • DUDE. YOUR IN A FIREMOTH TOO!!!

  • I loved how when the mechs got destroyed there were like a million pieces shattering from the mech.

plus the the computer voice sounded so legit!

    I miss this game...

  • Have you heard the computer voice for Mechwarrior 5? It sounds GAY as hell. I really wish that they would just reuse the MW2 or 3 voice at least.

  • this game rules!!!!!!!!!

  • I bet this was sweet on a P200 with 32MB of RAM and a 4MB video card back in the day circa 1996. I can just imagine playing it on a 19" CRT monitor and being impressed with my £3000 high end investment.

The best platform at the top of its game, no compromise just what the developers intended.

    PC games forever!

  • I want them pcs to evolve and get the advantages of consoles

wait - a new amiga computer!

  • Youuuu...want them to have lower quality and faster more hyped sold out development?

Have we learned nothing from hollywood?

  • Dude, you rock USING A FIREMOTH LIKE THAT YOUR THE MAN!

  • thx :)

  • I am going to install mechwarrior2 again and try it with a firemoth. I just love the soundtrack for the game. I just recreating the soundtrack and music in the same genre.

  • cool, gl!

  • I wish my CD had the music. At least the CD had netmech with it, but no music except launcher, install, and menu music.

  • BTW, Sir MMPD, you guys still play netmech on Kali?

  • Nope, we play on IRC using DOSBOX now. You can find more info on the website.

  • I love this game. gunna have to reinstall it

  • This game was so great, although i owned Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. I also had Mechwarrior 3 and 4. I tried to play 3 a couple of months ago but was amazed with how hard it was to control the vehicle. Cant belive i was as good at as i was 5 or 6 years ago..

  • Ha! I still got this for my Saturn!

  • Aw man that was so intense!!

  • 0_o and to think i used to think it all looks so real

  • Same O.o

  • I seriously didn't understand this game.

  • God I wish I could still play this game :(

  • Well, if you have a copy it is playable on XP, Vista etc. DOS version even works on linux via dosbox.. look for the install guide or go to the website seen in the top right of the vid.

  • I don't have a copy anymore unfortunately. But thanks.

  • LMAO Image enhancment= Wireframe.... man the good old days

  • i remember as a kid i thought the graphics were amazing! is this how it looked like? because i swear i thought it looked better then this lol

  • You might be thinking of the titanium, 3dfx, or ATI Rage versions.

  • I remember being amazed at the graphics of this game!!!

  • graphics looks nice.

it was a great game. played it alot.

  • God almighty, the game was ONLY released in 1995.

  • Wow sarcasm, thats so cool

  • this game is still better then a lot of the crap they come out with nowadays.

  • so, did you just remove all the armor from the arms and reinforce the torso, or did you take damage previously?

  • I had armor on the arms, but i took damage previously.

Please watch the previous video to see what happened if you are curious.

  • Nice video. Was that MadCat(TimberWolf) mech u were using? I usually use 3-4 small pulse lasers too to overpower enemies in close range too, but also pack up like 5-6 machine guns in second wep group to swap on them and continue to fire when lasers couse too much heat. Also, i always pack some LRMS on my custom mechs for Long range salvo oppenings, then move in to finish job with lazers :)

  • Nope, I was using a firemoth(smallest mech in the game).

  • What would you use to Run the DOS Verions of MechWarrior 2?

    DOSBox?

    Virual PC?

    VirualBox?

    What!!

Beacuase I tryed downloading the Demo (witch was DOS) and i could not get it to Install and or Run.

  • (Forgot to Post this)

I also have a "download bubget" nothing to big. I have only 5.26 to 6.46 gigabites of space left.

(Sorry for all the questions , and repostings but my mind is crap , and i cant remmber who to get old PC games to work. Thanks in advacnced.)

MechWarrior 2 (DOS) on a Linux PC?

    Is it Possible?

Yes. I didnt think it was possable . Thanks for help , and other tips.

Oh! and before i forget :

Is the PS1 Version worth buying?

  • I have a video explaining how to install mech2 dos.. you can find a link to it if you look in my videos list. Also you can find install instructions in the FAQ section at the website.

In XP you can either run mech2 directly with some minor modifications or use DOSBOX.

As for the PS1 version, no it is not worth it.

Please post on the forums if you want more detailed help. youtube is not a good place for explaining things with the character count being low.

  • (READ THIS AFTER READING MY 1st COMMENT)

Would it also be a good idea to get the DOS Versions? If so then where would be a good place to get the DOS Versions of Mech2 or its expansions.

    Thanks again in advanced.

  • Post B...

No the tutorial will not work on titanium because the installer does not work properly in titanium. You need to use mechvm which you can get at the website.

    Post A..

Yes, DOS is the suggested version of the game. It has the highest percentage of success out of all the versions. It even works on linux which is saying something! :)

Ebay is the best place to buy mech 2 DOS.

At forums look in the FAQ w/title "Different Versions of MechWarrior 2 - READ BEFORE BUYING!!!"

  • Quick Question:

I saw your Tutorial on who to get it to work on XP , and i was wondering , if i got Titanium Edition , and followed the same way on your tutiroal would it work?

Or would it be better to buy the Win95 Version ,and just use your tutioral.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • I have MW2 running good in XP. As for Vista, you'll probably need VirtualBox or Virtual PC and a install CD of WinXP/98/2000 to run MW2 under that environment. I need to do that to get MW3 running.

  • Actually, Mech2 runs fine on Vista.

DOSBOX is the solution for DOS, but the 95 version the instructions are the same as XP pretty much.

  • i think i have the 95 version of the disc but if i remember correctly it has both that and the dos version on it right? im not at home and cant check the disc

  • Depends on the disc, some due some do not. If you know what your disc looks like you can verify it against the list at the website FAQ section. Look for a thread that says "Different Versions of MechWarrior 2 - READ BEFORE BUYING!!!"

  • my disc is the IBM version 1.1 ur site says it should work...im gonna follow ur dosbox install guide...im crossin my fingers cause i have vista 64...ive seen it run on 64 but idk still...ALL THIS JUST TO PLAY MECH2 damn! lol

  • Yes, it should work in DOSBOX after some modifications. Just remember to make the dosbox.conf file with all permissions or you will never get anywhere on vista.

  • it works perfectlly...now i just have to configure my joystick and throttle...it keeps confusing the throttle for rudder peddals...even tho my joystick has the z axis insted of the pedals...should be fun

  • good to hear. Good luck with your joystick and have fun!

  • I have this game it is mechwarrior 2 the ATI rage.

  • Sorry to hear that. :(

ATI Rage is unplayable without the original hardware.

  • i miss this game

  • Very nice.

I was somewhat dissed at the lack of a teritary objective. Maybe the antenna next to the mobile HQ would have been a good idea (the mission doesn't fail if you blow it, only the car needs to survive).

  • Are you saying if the antenna is destroyed the teritary gets completed?

  • Mech warrior 2 will always be awesome

  • Wonder if it can always last through the test of time. The only thing I will always be thinking about if this game will be remade (and not to be another joke like Titanium, no offense, but a true-to-the-making remake).

  • Can anyone help me, I try to install this but it says I need Windows NT, I have Vista, and I still have the disc. What do I do?

  • There is an install guide you can get in my profile... or go to the website in the top right of the vid and read a FAQ. :)

  • Does this game work on Vista? and where can one come by this game nowadays, i lost the copy i had a long time ago :(

  • Yes, the DOS version does work with DOSBOX on vista. You can find a install video in my profile or visit the site in the top right of the video.

As for where to buy it, Ebay is the best place to buy it, but before you buy it check the FAQ section at the website as I have a list of good versions with pictures to match. Choose from the online/offline section in that FAQ.

  • This was in my opinion the first game with the BEST PHYSICS for that time..., you even had the option to place so many guns on your mech that it was to heavy so jumpjets were useless and stuff... so many options to customize your mech...

    Good times... :')

  • There was some seriously good atmosphere in the MW2 and GBL. Like the underwater mission, I couldn't tell up or down at first. And the fight on the roof of the spaceship in orbit was amazing. I remember learning how to properly configure a mech for the first time, with the ability to sidestep ultra fast with jumpjets, effectively not having to fight half the enemy mechs you encounter. Great game. Nice video.

  • Your aim is pretty damn good. Are you using keyboard + mouse? I'm so used to using a flight stick...

  • Thanks! Yes, keyboard + mouse default controls.

  • wow.!memories......

  • wow.. great vid!! thanx man! i played this game back in 96 or 97.

i will try if it works on xp?

  • Thanks!

Yes, it works great on XP.

For instructions on how to get it running please view the website in the top right of the video or check out the video I made detailing how to get the game to run. The DOS version runs the best on XP... the 95 versions do not work very well.

  • Nice man! Twycross!

  • Thanks! :)

  • wish i could find this game....dont know how it plays on windows vista though...

  • You can find it on ebay. :)

As for how to play it on vista get the DOS version of mech2 and use DOSBOX. Instructions are on one of my vids and on the website in the top right of the video.

  • and theres always the saturn port

  • Trust me, the console ports are terrible! The ports are nothing like the originals. I have both of them.

  • yes but to those that really have no other choice (which is silly since the loving gift of DOSBox came out long ago)

  • Would you believe that back in the day my computer wasn't fast enough for this. Man...

  • hehe, I do actually. :) You might also be surprised to hear that in dosbox some players cannot even play the game at full specifications. Need at least 2.2 ghz P4 to play at full specs.

  • It look beter on the Playstation (no ofens)

  • Of course it looked better lol. It is on a console. Mech2 DOS was built for a 90mhz pc without graphics card!

The console version majorly stinks though the controls are awkward, and it is nothing like the original game.

  • I remember playing this when I was 6.. ahhh the memories :D

  • i just found this game in the basement and i wanted to see wat it was like and my god it looks cool but its so freaken old im not sure if i can download it to my new pc.

  • It will work just fine on XP or Vista if you have the right version. I have two videos on youtube which will walk you through setting the game up. Also the website in the top right of the screen has more instructions.... The install vid can be downloaded from there too with higher quality.

  • Agreed clayton5150. It was never the same after it left Activision's hands.

  • I've been wondering (don't bash me, I haven't played this for six years): How did you over-ride shutdown?

  • To override hit o. :)

  • the sounds were the best on two. the music was pretty cool to.

  • Image Enhancement FTW!!!! lol, that was one of the best features of the series, that and the abbility to jettison ammo from weapons before it exploded inside your 'mech.

  • dude i love mw2

  • wish there was a free full download of this game online...used to play this for hours, dont have the cd anymore :(

  • Well, there is no legal full version, but I can tell you the multiplayer aspect has always been free. If you are interested in that at all check the website on the vid; it is in the download section.

  • HOW SICK WOULD THIS GAME BE IF THEY MADE A COME BACK.

Mechwarrior 5 Steel Warriors =P haha thats just what i think they should name the title

  • Every day I dream of that :D

  • Hey, how do you separately fire the lasers and the missiles? Like, you would shoot off a bunch of lasers at once, then just lasers. Setting things to 'Fire Group 1' and on, only Group 1 does anything, and it fires every bank. The other two groups just select weapons.

Also, what was the hotkey for Shutdown Aversion? I forget.

  • shift + 2, shift + 3 will set the weapons to another firing bank. \ is group fire. ' is swap groups or just simply hit enter.

    o is for override.

  • Run, Rifleman with no arms! RUN!
