How come then we don't recall Kishore's songs for so many leading actors of 50s and 60s, that's 20 long years...except for a few songs for Dev Anand and Shashi. It's the other way round for Rafi: it would be quite a challenge for anyone to find actors that Rafi did NOT sing for...any comparison here?

Kishore always accepted Mohd.Rafi as his good friend and he knew his limitations too. Rafi was a trained singer and could reach any sur without difficulty. Comparing Rose and Jasmine is wrong. Both are good flowers.. But do not compare Rafi with anybody.. He stands taller than anybody.... He was a good human being..

"Chhukar mere man ko", "Badi suni suni hai", "Mere naina sawan Bhaadon", Rim jhim gire saawan" are among the toughest. Rafi could not sing that songs. And ya,yoddling was his unique feature, which NO ONE(not even so-called "GOD" Rafi) can even touch.. Moreover RAFI was TRAINED, HE LEARNT MUSIC, Kishore DID NOT LEARN

Rafi did have a sweet voice, honestly better than KK, but KK's voice had a taste of Confidence, Masti, fullness towards Devotion, Pitch & Absoluteness. Even though if voices were to be more comcerned with, Rafi was better. But we have to see the quality of singing not the quality of voice. We see devotion towards the "assummed situation related with the movie" while singing... Let us rely on opinion of concerned & knowledgeable persons and not decide ourselves. Till I know each one prefers KK..

There is no harm in comparing the best talents as long as the discussion is based on merits. Rafi sahab was an all rounder with immense and amazing range whereas Kishore da had his limitations, but whatever he sang was of the highest level. This song was probably out of Kishore da's comfort level, especially the high notes. There are a lot of singers now a days who can sing in high pitch, but their expression quotient leaves a lot to be desired.

Everytime I see posts comparing Rafi and Kishore, raising one and dissing another, I feel bad. Both are gifts to us, and let us cherish them, instead of pouring out our biases. Both gave a distinct flavor to our music and gave us decades worth of classic music. They themselves got along really well and respected each other. As for the reason Rafi sang this song was that Kishore got into dispute with the producer HS Rawail and refused to record it after the movie was made. As simple as that.

The song is unique in the sense that Rafi sang the song for Kishore Kumar who is a playback singer himself. The soft and beautiful voice of Rafi with high pitch at the end of each stanza is superb. The entire orchestration of this piano based song is simply the best. There is a perfect dialogue between piano and English flute/solo violin between the Mukhda and stanza shows the musical genius of Shankar Jaikishan.
