These will not work with a coal fired loco because the draft must be controlled, but they will work with gas or alcohol fired locomotives. Also see my video "K-27 Bark Box Under Load"
@paullubliner It's more than a tube and it is silver soldered to withstand the high heat of the smoke box. Are you confusing the Bark Box with a Suymmerlands Chuffer tube?
@trainav8r No I never heard of this before. Okay, silver soldered, so it's MAP gas instead of propane. What else is there to it?
In 1 1/2" scale I've seen the petticoat pipe being left off to do this as well. See on you tube: "Chula Vista Live Steamers Fall '09 Meet" for my Hudson.
@paullubliner These are questions you should be asking Richard Jacobs. He makes the Bark Boxes one at a time by hand to fit a particular locomotive. Richie is a good guy so email or call him.
Wow!!! Must say that is impressive!!! It looks like a steel "resonance chamber" or drum attached to the chimney above the blast pipe amplifies the sound? I have heard of a chuff pipe which is directly screwed into the blast nozzle which goes directly up the chimney. Do you connect your blast pipe to this one/screw it into the blast pipe or is it seperate? Has anyone tried this bark box on a coal fired model? Thanks a million for posting! B.
How significantly does this affect the draft? Is it only useable for gas fired engines?

@trainav8r: Thanks. I'd like to fit these to my Aster Gresley A3 and A4s. Any drawings available?

@paullubliner
google bark box live steam to reach trainsales
then ask Richard Jacobs if he has a bark box to fit your loco

@trainav8r: A bit pricey for a short length of thin walled copper tube with nothing more than
soft soldered ends, don't you think?

@foreversteam
The device is placed over a shortened blast tube. No screws. See also my video titled K-27 Barl Box Under Load for great sounds.
