I think they have released this information because most people thought or believed it was real and that it did actually happen, it could be that they are planning to tell people a lot more going forward and that they have been reverse engineering technology for decades. Personally I would mic them up and just record them on a different audio track that can be spliced into the episode when needed (which they already do to an extent), but they might have their own reasons for keeping it as it is.
