As far as I can gather,they all wore there hair long,to various degrees,sometimes dyed blond.

Long Hair on a man was considered to be noble.

The first thing the Romans did after the subjugation was to demand they were shorn.

Then they imposed taxes.

I think you might be thinking of the Mongols.

They half shaved their heads to look fearsome,but that was some 1200 years in the future!.

The Celts would often use woad to dye their bodies before battle,and take off all of their clothes!.

The fully armoured Roman soldier would have found this amusing to say the least.

One might think this very stupid,espeacially when facing the might of Rome.

But it was a cultural thing, apparently,just like a cup of tea is now.

@neohip I'm still sure I read that about the Celts somewhere. Yes I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to see a battle between the Celts and Roman's. They must have though of us to be such idiots but then again I'm not too fond of Italy now! :)

I think a lot of the ideas of the Celts hair style comes from the "bog corpses" that have been documented in the last few centuries.

Many were found with long hair one one side,and none on the other.

It has since been discovered that in nearly all cases,the hair had simply rotted away on one side because it was was exposed to oxygen longer.

The scientiests should have become suspicious when it was found may of them died many 100's of years apart.
