  • You have Tekken 6 music on here, awesome.

  • Great example of teamwork my JRT would be in heaven if he could do this all day.

  • It looks like you're in Washington state. That looks like blackberry bramble you were into.

  • It looks like you're in Washington state. That looks like blackberry bramble you where into.

  • great vid, I also want to become a falcaner but it hard to find a sponser in San Jose, CA, please help!

  • @everfalcon There are literally thousands of falconers in California

  • @iFearzHD I'm not the one that is making myself look stupid. I can't say the same for you.

  • @iFearzHD Bullshit! If your dad is really any kind of falconer (let alone a master) you would have just asked him. Congradulations on making yourself look like a fucking idiot. Good job.

  • lol halo music ftw

  • i love falconry i studied so much and i went on the our state website it said applackants must be 12 then i finnaly got a sponcer he told me i have to be 16 to be an apprentice i got so pissed off

  • @scottkjr Get over it. You getting pissed off just proves that he did not want to sponser you yet because you are not mature enough.

  • whats with the halo music

  • How large does a red tail cage have to be, and can you use a large dog run for a cage, or would building one be better?

  • Love the choice of music. Totally random by comparison to the subject, but instantly recognizable to a player of the games.

  • i know hawks dont " love" their owner like a dog but if yout nice to them will they be a friend like my parrot

  • @TheEDBShow that hawk would eat your parrot, and your dog.

  • @IamGod4u i think the dog would eat the hawk..and i live in an urban area so it wouldnt be good for the haw

  • @TheEDBShow well it was a joke, but literally it would depend on the dog. Unless you had a fairly big dog or wolf, yeah it would get eatern.

  • @IamGod4u my dog is about the size of a german shepherd or a little smaller..and my wolf lives in pen

  • the music made it seem like ,someone was about to die like th bird

  • falconry is work. if you know how to work hard then you might succeed. try a flock of pigeons for three years and see if you can keep them alive, healthy and flown first. Too many people find out they know little about chores, bird health and work the hard way.

  • Whats Matt flying now?

  • @zeeduk Two male Harris hawks

  • @snikkers27 cool...so he must be doing well? are you flying harris" hawks as well now? =) Im looking for an affordable harris' as Im with out a job and just doing self employment stuff..so its tight...but luckily i can walk to my hawking grounds..=)

  • @zeeduk Yes, he's doing well. After his last red tail he got a young harris and flew it for a season or two, and got one that somebody else transfered to him near the end of last season. I don't fly harris hawks, I'm a pre-apprentice. He's going to be my sponsor. Being able to walk to hawking locations must be really nice, I hate having to drive :p And sorry, I don't think I know of anyone breeding Harris's currently--though I'm only familiar with falconers that are right around my area.

  • @snikkers27 hahaha thanks, seems like a lot of work. its funny how they go through so muck work just to catch one measly rabbit:) i caught a squirrel with a simple trap. l i have a dog who i trained to catch small animals. she always fails though. if i had a hawk i would ask local dumps and air ports if i could come to chase away pesky birds :)

  • I thought this was a great video and all together I love to hear and read about falconry and i would love to hear from you about how i could get started im 14 and live in stonington, Illinois, thanks 5/5

  • @hazardousnic Hope you got some more information about falconry I would suggest looking up your local club and go to a meet... easy to find a sponsor when your old enough to drive (16) and have enough time and money... ;P

  • @snikkers27

i wasnt giving out any kind of information

  • The art of falconry is to put food on the table not to be considered "killing for fun". It makes a bad name for the sport.

  • Putting food on the table is where the art of falconry gets a little dirty, goshawks can quickly fill up a freezer and put food on the table, they dont care how they catch prey. It is up to the falconer to make things sporting, frequently the best flights are where nothing is caught but the bird tried hard and missed. The birds get to eat what they catch, so it is mostly for their table, If we were interested in meat we would get a gun, it is much more efficient.

  • While we enjoy watching the birds fly, chase, and sometimes catch prey, we don't relish in it. Raptors have evolved to catch things, it would be wrong to keep one as a pet and not allow it to fly free. You work hard to train a bird to hunt with you, and for most it takes a lot of time, effort, and money to do so. when they are successful yes they are happy. The focus is not on the end or even the beginning of life but the time spent along the way. I guess it's just what you choose to focus on.

  • @Aaronsworlddotcom hi there i was wondering what stae you were in? What a good bird would be for a 14 year old. i have been trying to get my mom into it and i was wondering if you could give me couple of tips to help her with the idea.Iwas also wondering if i were to talk her into it should i start get some of the stuff i need to begain and if you know any good sights for them. I have one last Q. I am right handed what glove should i get one for the right or one for the left

    Thank you

  • @FOB101ful

Wa, Redtail, (better when 18), Buy a book and go to Falconry meets in your area, Mike's falconry, western sporting... northwoods, left handed ;)

  • and about how much total does it cost?

  • @TheBuckbuster, in North America you're only allowd to catch a wild Bird of Prey during your first few years of Falconry. You're only allowd to have a Red-tailed Hawk or a American Kestrel for the first few years in falconry (you're allowd to capture a Northern Goshawk if you live in Alaska, and you're also allowd to have a Red-shouldered Hawk if you live in the southern states). But there are different ways to trap a Bird of Prey, and it differs for each kind of Bird of Prey.

  • @UnionProduction Not true. A licensed falconer can trap a wild bird all throughout his/her career. During a minimum of a 2 year apprenticeship you MUST trap and train a wild bird.

  • TheFalconfun, I meant when you start Falconry you're only allowd to catch a wild bird. I didn't mean to say you can't catch a wild one if you're a general, or master.

  • I figured as much, its all going to be changing soon anyway.

  • how do you trap a falcon/hawk for falconry?

  • *sigh* I want to take up this sport so much. I'm 14, so I can apply for a license in the state I live, but I can't afford it. It costs way too much for the equipment, and I live in the suburbs next to a house full of kids running around, so they would be constantly scaring it or something (either through the window of the mews or the wire of an aviary). Very beautiful bird, I hope I will one day be able to own one.

  • @KittyRokher, try to save up money for it. It's a really fun sport. And anyways my Sponsor lives in a Detroit suburb with barely any yard, all you really need is space for a mews and a field for training. The kid's parents should know not to let their kids mess around with the hawk.

  • Unfortunately they probably don't. They would say something like "Oh I'm sure that nice kid next door wouldn't mind if you played with it a bit" then go sit on their porch and drink beer all day talking about blacks and Jews and Mex'cans and stuff, mmmhmmm (sorry, my racist impersonation isn't too good). Still, thank you for your advice. My dad is old enough and was in the military, so I get $167 dollars a month, lol! Thank you for the advice, ill get back to you soon.

  • That's going to be the parents fault for having a kid that's going to be blooding to death just because they didn't listen. And these birds are protect, if they hurt someone on incident you can't get in trouble and get your bird taken away. But if you trained your bird to attack people, or don't tell them the safety hazards about being near a bird, sure you can get in trouble.

  • Hm, well it's good to know that there won't be reprucussions. And yeah, I'm going to put up plenty of NO TRESPASSING and KEEP OUT and DO NOT AGRIVATE THE BIRDS signs. Thank you for the advice.

  • dang you've never had a problem with the hawk tryin to go for the dogs?

  • great bird and i love the halo music

  • i wish i could do that!!! i love working with birds!!! i live n palmdale and almost every day i see a red tail!! they are always watching my chickens, lol how do you even get one?

  • I must say I can't wait to start up in Falconry once I'm 16, I'm 15 now but I need to start learning. Any tips on good Falconry books would help.

  • @Worgenftw

California apprentice falconry study guide & manual---> THE BEST.

  • awesome video I am 16 and have a peregrine but I don't do alot of hunting, I prefer the skills show!I'm in quebec! I lol'ed at the Halo music xDDDD

  • awesome shots. my uncle and cousin live in asheville NC and both have their licenses. I plan on getting mine once i finish college and have the time and a place to set up a good mew.

  • i live in nc as well am trying to start up but i dont have a place i can have a mew

  • nice bird im 15 and i fly a pasage redtail what state you in?

  • Great video! I love watching hawks.

By the way, "O Fortuna" was written by Carl Orff, not Mozart.

  • How many hours a week is needed to train as an apprentice? How much does it cost? How many hours a week does it take to train a bird once you get one? All of your videos are great, thanks for posting them!

  • I live in Michigan and lucky for me they're a lot of Redtail Hawks here, and the state is trying to make Falconry more common to residents.

  • Excellent video, I would love to do this if I had the money, Unfortunately im poor, and I live in Oklahoma.

  • how long will it take to become a Apprentice falconer?

  • several months to a few years depending on your situation and the falconry where you are at. Building facilities, passing test, getting equipment, finding a sponsor, and required paperwork take some time but it all depends on how quickly you accomplish each task. There is no set time limit.

  • are red tai hawks hard to obtain?

  • They are illegal to obtain unless you have the permit and do so as a trained falconer or as an apprentice under same.

  • lol, at first i htought the music was saying "get the bunny, get the bunny!"

  • The theme music is awesome!

  • Its halo 2 music

  • lol h2 theme music <3

  • very cool vid.

    5/5 and added to favs.

just recently became intrested in falconry.

i will be reading up on it the next few weeks. (in preperation for getting my permit)

    any books you can recomend?

btw that is not fortuna by mozart it is carmina burana by carl orff. O fortuna is the movement that opens and closes the piece.

  • Thanks!

  • Very Sweet Video.. I love Reds.. Getting one this season. I miss the hard crashing and power of these guys.

  • get a job... lol, no seriously money is good...

  • Im gonna be 14 next year and i want to take on falconry any tips for a new falconer? plz reply

  • Call your fish and game department. ask for study guide's on falconry if they provide it. (they should) take the test than pray there is a general or master falconer near you. you need to be an apprentice for two years and it is very time consuming and a bit expensive. Cheers Steve

  • like hahahahahaha i just realized that it was the halo theme song half way through and nice bird man

  • LOLOLOL nice halo sound track. and ur hawk is amazing shes really pretty

  • where are you in this video??

  • dude i love the music when the monks start singing... it sounds like the halo theme. nice hawk

  • you buy them from breeders and i think the music fits its kinda medeival(just like falconry!!) in a good way

  • great video don't you think background music is a little odd

  • Short Answer: In the U.S. you don't!

    Google the "modern apprentice" ;)

  • 5 stars. where do you buy a red tail hawk?

  • I am open for comments/criticism:

good, because the "music" absolutely takes away from the natural beauty of the video. Silence can be golden..!!

  • Thanks for the comment.

You cannot please everyone, or even a lot of people, LOL!

Feel free to use your volume control (There is one on the lower right of the Video).

I do appreciate the comments it may influence future videos. ; )

  • get in the bush boy lol i love this vid, stay lucky big john.

  • is that u? if it is, i have a few questions about falconry.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome, cant wait to get my bird!

  • great video. I was wondering if the bird like its owner and if you can pet it :D

  • "tolerates" is a better word. You can touch it, but it is not happy to be touched like a dog or a cat. "petting" is move for the human than the bird.

  • You are in correct. Petting the birds breast and feet are essential to falconry. This is done for health checks for weight and to be able to take gear on and off the bird. Unless you want the bird to grab you, you must touch the bird constantly until it is no longer affraid of your touch. My red-tail is very affectionate when pet on her breast. She leans into my hand if i hold my had to her breast.

  • Ya, like for balance?

Some birds will like it (smaller falcons), but by and large, across the board, birds of prey don't like it. I addressed his question broadly.

What you are describing is a bird becoming habituated to you touching it, the process we call manning. Passage birds need much more of this than do imprints and chamber raised birds. They already know who you are. IMO, I would much rather be out hawking and mann my bird as I hunt and on the kill, than sit at home and "pet" it.

  • This is just from my experience (5 RT's, 2 Coopers hawks, 4 euro goshawks and a tiercel harris). It has been a long time for me since flying a RT so I may be a bit dated. and I forget what it was like to fly one... or what different people focus on, :)

For all the apprentices out there... "mann your birds well.. and then go have some fun with it" :)

  • LOL...no...com'on Aaron...its not in anticipation of being knocked off balance that the bird leans into him.....wild raptors snuggle each other all the time...it part of their natural behaviour...besides, his simply wants to breed with him after he rubs all the oil off its feathers.....PMSL

  • great vid,,, big john uk. its that simple why ask questions ??

  • Oh, I see...

  • Huh, i dont understand how that would effect it. oh well XD

  • Do you like to run around after thanksgiving? Or when you haven't eaten for a day?

  • I heard something about wheighting your falcon, cause if they are not the right wheight they wont respond to you. is this true?

  • Yes.

  • Gorgeous RT!

  • Beautiful video!

  • Your video is most excellently well done, *very* nice editing with a beautiful sense of pacing. The music adds to the video it fits so well. As far as what (if anything!) to change, perhaps a few bits of getting the bird ready for the day's hunt, and the same sort of thing in reverse at the end, a sort of winding down scene or some such. Again *great* video!

  • Beautiful video man. As an avid Halo fan, I enjoyed the soundtrack as well.

  • A very intriguing video. ^^ You seem to have a lot of fun with Matt. Actually, I've been thinking about it for a while... May 3rd is going to be birthday... I kinda wanted to be an apprentice for a while... But do you think falconry is a truly enjoyable experience, and really worth the time? I'd like to spend time with my family and friends as well. Of course I understand that I must put the bird's needs in front of things. I did a lot of research on them.

  • Very nice restail many where i live

  • nice work m8 u seem to be doing well with her i love flying my feamil rt she is now flying free and hunting well at 3lb2oz but i do prefer to fly my hh's but she is still a gd member for the team

  • Thanks, I had fun watching her fly. Harris Hawks are fun, but can't (or don't) take as high of a perch or slam brush the same way. But I love my little Jack killing male Harris Hawk.

  • srry about my last message. can u tell me about more falconry sites?

  • Google "Apprentice Falconry Forum" ,lots of Info there, as well as many links to other sites.

  • hey again im 13 can i start now or do have have to i mean have to start at 14? and wat about a harris' hawk for a starting bird?

  • In The U.S. with the current regulations, yes@14, no for the Harris Hawk.

  • how old can u be to start falconry? What type of hawk or falcon sould i start out with?

  • 14... have to be a redtail or kestrel by law in the U.S.

google the falconry regs or check out themoderapprenticedotcom....

  • nice one, good job, what country is it ?

  • U.S.

  • Good job! Good dogs and great bird. Good young falconer. That's how it's done.

  • cudant have shead it beter my self

  • ;-)

  • Thanks

  • Great video guys and great dogs! My friend and i fly harris hawks here in scotland. He is intent on getting a red tail, would you advise it? Any advice or comments from you guys would be much appreciated, i dont think he should just yet, i have never handled one but i hear they can be a bit of a handfull.

  • In some ways easier than a harris and in some ways harder.... training versus hunting... they do much much better in the cold than my harris does ;)

  • Looks fun. Im a bow hunter and would consider this as a hobby. Only problem is redneck, ignorant, rifle hunters love to shoot predators such as the red tail hawk.

  • It is a great hobby,

unfortunately although it is a felony to shoot raptors it is rarely enforced and still done today...

Some farmers wonder why there have a problem with mice, rats, and other pests when at the same time they poison the coyotes, shoot the hawks, and trap the other predators...

Usually you are close to your bird when out hunting so that shouldn't be a problem, although I would advise against certain areas or times of the year (like opening day). The bells help too.

  • If I had a hawk and it was shot down by a redneck, hick, inbred, waste, farmer, or rancher- I would hang them, slit their wrists, and watch them slowly breed. Next deer on my hunting lease their lives an asshole that traps owls, hawks, and falcons. I would love to kick his ass for trapping and killing such awesome creatures.

  • cool tanks

  • 14, yes i know all of them...

do a google search for "7 steps to becoming a falconer"

  • i getting in to this hobby is there any kind of age limit. do you even know any of the requirements about fl

  • Amazing video. It makes me really want to become an aprentice!!

  • it is a fun "hobby"

  • im just starting to get into falconry, any starting advice?

  • Geath an redTail :D the beast birtds :P

  • Get a Dog

  • Great video, and glad Matt was so successful his first season--heard lots of stories but never saw until now. Great work on the edits it was fun to watch. Hopefully my RT will do half as well ~_^

  • good luck

  • sounds like he is a tad fat ;) They love to hunt... Thanks for the comment.

  • I think not hes huntigh weight was 960grams wat would you propose ??? do you heawe ICQ ??? or are you on IFF ???

  • Not going to give you weight advice without seeing the bird, but all of my birds have been great game hawks... you just have to find the way to not let them be lazy, they are smart... ;)

  • 960 seems a tad low for a FRT. Mine hunts at 1100. I had my bird at 975 and I could not get her to chase with real enthusiasm. She had no energy rather than too heavy. Feel her keel and bring her up to 1050 and see how she is.

  • Smaller on the west coast, where we are in particular, over on the other side of the mountains they are a little bit larger (Eastern Washington). Something more like 1300g's (Harsher winters). His bird is right on the border of M/F for around here. My other apprentice had a similar sized bird that was DNA'd a male. Matt doesn't really know if his bird is a male or a female. He just gave it a female name... so We play along.... ;)

  • 1100g...wow that seems a tad too light...lol...mine is keen at 1400g, super keen on warm days at 1340g and fat at over 2000g. Guess there really is no magic weight and specific size to all red tails....lol. Besides...didn't I see FOUR master falconers listed in the credits as hunting partners....lol. Everyone's a critic Matt (disguised in "helper clothing"...lol).

Great job guys! Pay it forward Matt when the time comes!

  • M8 the beast bird for hunting :D i heawe an RT mi self but no catches till now and he has 2 years hes to godnatured for hunting... and video rate 9/10 :P

  • best video on youtube

  • thanks

  • Ever since I've read the Animorphs series, I've always have a special place for red-tail hawks in my heart. I enjoy this very educational video on how falconry workss, and the music fits Kitana's flight and hunt perfectly.

  • Never forget, but always go on.

  • Never thought I'd miss the days of being the "human beagle" for my father during his falconry hunts but your videos have sure made me. Though I always hated hunting near the railroad tracks. Much luck with upcoming seasons.

  • lol, get in the bush...

yea not as fun as pristine sagebrush ;)

  • I have to say I was holding my breath when I seen the power lines!!!!! Awesome video looks like you all were having a great time.

  • Yea me too!

  • Good vids. 5* all the way. Makes me want to get into this sport more and more.

  • Thank you for the comment

  • your really cool and im 13 and im just wondering

how old you have to be to be a falconer in iowa

  • You must be 14 in the US. I advise calling up your states wildlife program and asking about Falconry.

    -Matt

  • Nice production values...just one thing: "O Fortuna," the song that starts at about 5:30, is by Karl Orff (from "Carmina Burana"), not Mozart.

Otherwise, good job. Kitana flies about the same weight as my PFRT.

  • Thank you very much for the info, I will change that for the higher quality dvd version.

  • Superb! Nothing better than a PFRT on some bunnies. Great hunting land you have there. I would kill for some of that. Great job. My hat goes off to Kitana, and Matt.

  • Thanks! It was fun filming these hunts.

It looks like you are having some fun with some passage redtails yourself.

  • Hey man, you did an amazing job on this one!!

And you should have seen Rascal... he was pulling a Mozart with the dogs yipping... hysterical...

Lets do it again next year, eh?

  • What no rating? ha

    We'll see.... :)

  • now i no why i Subscribed to your channle its amazing to watch

    keep it up

    stuart

  • Thank you,

    I really appreciate the comments!

  • another good video what did he jump into in the first bit?

  • Blackberry bushes

  • what a super fun video to watch

  • Thanks, I am glad you had fun watching it. :)

  • nice video
