  • but redeemed yourself with that superb Engrish

  • @pockEclipse Engrish is a love of mine

  • @takineko BTW @pokElipse thanks for all the awesome comments!

  • yahhh... you really helped!! xD

arigato gozaimasu. kimi wa shinsetsu na hito desu.

  • In the sentence "Takaku-nai mono-wa doko-ni ari-masu ka?" It gets translated as "Where are the inexpensive things?". I was curious as to what causes it to be pluralized. Would "Where is the inexpensive thing?" also work?

  • how do you say army?

  • When you turn ''ookii'' into ''ookiku'' it loses one i?

  • @catkac with i-adjectives, you drop the final i and add to the stem 「ookii >ooki (stem) >ooki-kunai. the -kunai makes i-adjectives negative. adding -kuarimasen to the stem instead makes it negative polite form」

i am enjoying these videos. helping me brush up on my 日本語!

    2009年一月から、私は日本語を勉強しました。大好きだよ!日本では?いいえ。「悲しいパンダ」。友達と一緒には未来に、行くことがしたいよ。2004年から、彼は日本語を勉強しました、そしても、日本語の先生です。ラッキ!(私の日本語は少し錆びています。ごめんね。)

  • Thanks for your lesson. I can see you have made a lot of effort.

I just wanted to point out big a mistake. You said "Kore-wa taisetsu-de-nai hon-de su". This is wrong. It should be: "Kore wa taisetsu DEwa nai hon desu" (これは大切ではない本です。) You missed out the particle "wa" all through this. Don't forget it! "Dewa", では。(^_^)dewa-nai...dewa-naku ありがとう、またね。

  • how do you say smith is in a room whose shelf has a expensive book?

  • in japanese, what does the negation do for these sentences?

  • Mercy!!! My dictionary doesn't have the word "predicate" and the translation which google gave me doesn't help me understand the real meaning of a predicate compliment or non-predicate adjective. Now you confuse me!!! Could you help me please?????

  • domo arigato..but are you past in talking i can't understand a liitle bit

  • SNAP!!

  • XD SNAP lol that was awsome and you didnt lose over 9 thousand cool points for it, you gained over 9 thousand cool points *thumbs up*

  • You help to make my brain hurt so wonderfully in such a short period of time, but with great purpose. Thanks so much.

  • i am addicted to these now!!!this should be offered at school!!

  • I still don't understand the inflexion..Like in "kore-wa ookiku-nai hako de su" and "kore-wa ookii hako de ari-masen" I don't understand what changed to make it end in "i" and not "ku"

  • de arimasen.

  • So, the negation of arimasu is arimasen. But what's the negation of desu?

  • De-arimasen.

    De-su is a shortened version of de-arimasu.

  • sore wa shinsetsu na hito de su ka.. could that also mean "is he kind?"

...and, sore wa shinsetsu na hito de arimasen (i tot i shld use i masen sinz the subj is living? like sore wa shinsetsu na hito de imasen?.. coz in lesson 10 if i remember it ryt : satoosan wa tokyo ni imasen.. sumthing lyk dat..)

sorry i tend to complicate things.. now i know why my sensei was harsh to me.. lol.. im just so committed to learning jap.. ;D

  • first of all, thank you for doing these.

second, can you explain why the ending "ku" is added to the adjetives before "nai" ? if not, no worries...keep it up!

  • hmm I'll have to look into that.

  • cool. You're awsome for doing these. i'm going to Japan in July (only for a week) for work. i'm using your lessons in conjunction with other sources to see how much of a command of the language i can have before i go.

  • I'm not sure, but I think it may be because the ending "nai" only want's to be used with nouns, for grammatical reasons, and therefore the ending of regular adjectives is changed to "ku" which is effectively a way of changing the regular adjective into a noun.

  • @xander55577 The way it makes sense to me is since the definition is not big not small etc. Then it'll be like the lesson in which we learned about adjectives as predicates where we change it to -ku. I consider it a micro-sentence if that can kinda make sense?

  • I love these things! WEEEE! Im learning so much. :D Ill have to watch them again but so what, at least Im learning. :D

  • I am learning a lot! Are there any more lessons after 16.

  • yes yes lots lots!

  • I'll have to watch this lesson again :|

  • So does '-de-nai' always come after, and attached to a noun? And is it always hyphenated like that, or is it just like the writer said at the beginning of the book about a particle being 'securely' attached to the work?

  • well, its written in Romanji [english letters] so in some cases people may not hyphenate it. However in the japanese spelling there aren't hyphens attached to them.

  • Has anyone ever made this mistake? No offense but it comes to my attention that new speakers do this lot... using i-masu on non-living things but using ari-masu on living things.

  • sure, happens all the time

  • I tend to do it a lot too.

  • Can anyone tell me when to use "-naku" and "de-naku"? I can't find anything about "naku" anywhere....

  • its another form of Nai.

  • Can any 1 do the excirses while closing their eyes? I cant do much of em

  • Another question after all the lesson will I really be able to understand Japanese?

  • You will be able to understand a great deal, the best thing it teaches in my opinion is sentence structures for different kinds of sentences. Then you can go back and learn more nouns on your own later and apply them to what you learned here.

  • I c because I found out that I can only do the excirses by reading the words. If I close my eyes and listen to what you say I can't translate most of it.

  • that's not good! I wonder why that is...

  • well umm this is the last one boo hoo boo hoo make more tehe not like im in a rush or anything!*waits at the computer shaking!

  • 14 is up. There will be 50 something.

  • i cant find lesson 14 my computer sucks!
