The problem is on the audio encoding side, the mic is actually fairly good, but the mixer that I was using before died, so I had to use the onboard audio, and it seems there's a lot of electrical noise from fans, etc. in this case... plus there's no preamp/mic boost, so the S/N is too low.
Hey, if it's quality you need, just get a mic for like 15 bucks..you can get a really good logitech one for around that price.

...but thanks for the advice, and yes, logitech seems to give good value for money, it's actually a logitech headset that I'm using.
