@SDSOverfiend All the CE characters in Anniversary edition are way more powerful than they actually were in original CE, I think all the cps1 characters are.
Not sure why Choi went with ST Ryu, HF Ryu does just about everything better except no super and hard DP isn't a one hit knockdown. HF Ryu definitely has faster fb release/recovery, almost as good as CE and SSF2 Sagat.
Mike Watson's footsies in this match are gdlk. You just can't learn to space and predict like that from reading character guides and watching match vids.
Great Guile charge by Mike at the end of round 1 to get the flash kick out! Good, patient play by Mike, not a lot of jump in's on Ryu. That's called disciplined Guile playing against Ryu.
I don't get why Ryu even bothered attacking, he should have just sat back and spammed and chipped with supers. Jumping in just got him kicked out of the air 90% of the time anyway.
Insults aside, that only really works when Ryu is ahead on life. A lot of time Watson was up, which means throwing fbs from far away isn't going to help. Watson will stop them with booms and neutral/back jump over them when necessary.
Maybe against ST Guile, but CE Guile has enough range with low forward to deal with a turtling Ryu as well as his backhand in CE can also allow charging so he can rifle of s.booms all day in a corner to keep adv.
I know, I hate the old one where he says Haduken in a lower voice. Do you know which game they use in EVO? I've been trying to figure it out. Daigos ryu where he says Haduken in a better voice
No, the Ryu is SF Turbo or also known as Hyper Fighting Ryu, cause he has the similar face to the Champion Edition Ryu but with the white head bandana, WW Ryu has wierd dimples on his face
No you are wrong. The first Ryu is Street Fighter 2 Turbo. If it were World Warriors there would be no dash with "Turbo" written below it (where teh Super meter would be.
Yeah, I often wondered that too, you see it in a lot of Japanese stuff (anime etc.) were people/characters don't look japanese they look more western even though they are meant to be japanese.
just to let you guys know this is a pretty even match. ryu can zone out guile pretty good and get him in the corner and chip him very easily. john and i know each others game from playing over the years so it might seem boring. the reason he threw supers was in anticipation of me sticking out a move where as i got a bit lucky and decided to block. ryu charges meter very quickly so its not that big a deal.
that ryu player was a total pussy cheating bore. it sure must take an incredible amount of skill to fire endless fireballs then dragon punch incoming opponents.
You do realize that CE Guile is a LOT stronger than ST Ryu in Anniversary Edition? And that John Choi, the Ryu player, was the one facing a huge disadvantage, a damn near unwinnable match-up where his only advantage was to take advantage of his slightly fast projectile?
Idiot. Not to mention both Watson and Choi are both legends of the Street Fighter scene, who have been winning tournaments across a wide range of titles for over 12 years.
Gracie is correct, CE. Guile is arguably Top 4 in AE, along with CE Ryu, CE Dictator, and CE Sagat.
ST. Ryu definitely has a disadvantage up against CE. Guile, simply because he is not as powerful as CE. Ryu in AE.
CE. Guile when played right, has almost no weaknesses besides a few character match ups. His damage, SB, zoning and spacing game is super powerful, anyone who's seen CE back in the days will know how beastly CE. Guile is.

kingoffighterz 2 years ago
Would be great if that was an opinion.
I just basically recapped what happened in the fight. You know fact?
Ryu wins fireball wars against Guile, It aint cool but if you want to win you have to play lame some times.
TancerFang 2 years ago
Insults aside, that only really works when Ryu is ahead on life. A lot of time Watson was up, which means throwing fbs from far away isn't going to help. Watson will stop them with booms and neutral/back jump over them when necessary.
Silks 2 years ago
Yeah, How do you think Ryu gets down on life?
The majority of the time, 60+ percent Ryu was just getting smacked out of the air.
Why jump in against someone who has an insane anti-air? It's like trying to out grapple Zangief, you're just gonna take way more damage then you do.
TancerFang 2 years ago
so true.
maxgunn555 2 years ago

Sakurazukamori2424 2 years ago
He can throw sonic booms all day, unlike Guile Ryu has a super projectile and and can fire those off for chip/ crushing a sonic boom for damage.
I am not saying it's an instant win for Ryu, it's just jumping in cost him 70% or more life befor ehe got to do anything.
This isn't 3rd strike where you can empty jump in and parry, getting caught in the air is a big deal.

The old Ryu voice from World Warrior, CE, and Hyper Fighting is low in pitch like you hear in this vid, although this game is Hyper SF2 Anniversary.
Super SF2 and Super Turbo had a newer voice for Ryu which was more high pitched.
