They do since the 50's lol. Nobody builds a bathroom-less cabin nowadays. Some use small composting toilets, but always something. You ever had to use an outhouse for an extended period of time? You're safer just going outside. Those things get disgusting and quite frankly scary as hell because snakes and spiders like living in them.
If one were to put insulation between the metal roofing and the wooden portion of the roof would that suffice to create the barrier insulation provides?
@ mojomadness2: that is hilarious. You are a riot. I laughed my ass off at your comment. I have never seen someone get as angry as you b4. Great work! I like your style. It is like a saturday night life sketch. LOL! Great work! keep up the good commenting. I really enjoyed it.
@CombatArchery - a 5 gallon bucket and clothespins for your nose are cheap alternatives for an expensive bathroom. c'mon! where is your sense of adventure?!
Why not put it on columbs (cement or wood) about 10 feet up (3+metres?) and then in the future be able to easily double the size of the house by simply adding a new floor and walls?
If financial restraints aren't a problem, you could pour a basement foundation too for hobbies, etc. Located in a serene setting away from it all, this would be great to live in year round.
@rf396 thats what it was i was thinking of. thank you. im looking hard at one of these. liquidating my mothers estate, have my eye on a piece of property to purchase. somehting like this would be a good starter
i always wonder how the north american indians who inhabited the place for over 1000 years yes Thousand not 100
survived and did not freeze their butts in winter the last 1000 years? and they did that w/o needing an ax or cutting a big tree
and they lived this land for FREE until someone came and invented banking and mortgage....geniuses !! now u work ur butts of 30years 40hrs a week both mom & pop to pay for a place to sleep on.........
You're right in saying that modernization causes more work. Native Americans did however use timber, besides most timber these days comes from renewable forestry so timber is actually a responsible material to use.
Some also lived in cob type structures. No trees cut down for that. Plus cob is coming back into 'fashion' since it's so green. Go figure, indigenous people got it right (as usual) the first time.
build everything but the roof out of pounded earth and you could save yourself a ridiculous amount of money and cut back on chemicals, deforestation, etc.
although i do love the look of a log cabin. you could always stick like log facings on the outside for the aesthetic.
i mean, i'm not trying to tell you your business, i'm just working out similar options for myself and felt like sharing some info. dig it? :)
in response to your comment..what materials have you looked into? adobe by any chance? i want to build with this since you can make it yourself, i hear it lasts hundreds of years.
rammed earth is essentially adobe. but it's not bricks that you lay, it's the raw earth material which you pound into forms and it becomes about as hard as concrete. you can even mix concrete into it for added strength. with a bit of upkeep and proper planning for the climate, a hundred years will fly by. adobe is better for warmer areas, check out 'earthbags'.
what is the dimensions?

A fireplace with no chimney? I didn't know they had those
Gilmourist 2 years ago 21
Electric/False fire but can give heat either way. There are models that are just for show and then there are electric models that are heat producing.
liabatud67 2 years ago
It's either electiric (fake) or gas (semi-fake), but adds ambiance and some heat.
