They could both control the game anyway they wanted and Larry Bird is credited with one of the best court visions in NBA history alongside Magic. Larry Bird played with Robert Parish and Kevin McHale who eventually became All-Stars because of Larry's ability to raise the level of everyone around him.

How can you not get assists playing with someone like that. Not taking anything away from Magic though but in my opinion Larry Bird was the better overal player because he could score at will, could get double digits in assists whenever he wanted, and averaged a double-double for his entire career.

Neither player is greater than the other. Sure they have different skillsets and styles but these guys were the same player in different bodys.

Magic could pass like no other and Larry's shooting is arguably the greatest all time. They both pushed their teams to succeed and play at the highest level possible. Saying one is better is disrespecting the game of basketball because there will never be two players like them again, ever. Just appreciate them both.

I grew up as a Laker fan in the 1980's. And I hated Larry Birds guts with a passion, but it was only because of how great a player he was when I watched him torment the Lakers. Especially in the 84 series. As I grew older I gained nothing but respect at how smart and great a player he was and he deserves all the hype and accolades as one of the greatest players ever.
