One of the things that bothers me about the Fallout 3/New Vegas games is how ludicrously long after the apocalypse they are set. 200 years? Really? I'll forgive all of the robots and lasers and computers and shit remaining functional for that long, because it's sci fi, but what about the wooden houses which are still partially standing? Plus, the radiation would die down.

I just tend to imagine that FO1 took place about 40 years after the war, and FO3/NV take place about 20 years after that.

@SoupCr3w No it wasn't, it's a spin-off of the series, much like tactics, brotherhood of steel etc. Although it uses the same mechanics of Fallout 3, it was never supposed to be a Fallout 4. More importantly, Bethesda got license to make three Fallout games, they've published two and I can bet that the next and last is Fallout 4.

@scrambaldfilmsJosh They actually now own the entire franchise. They originally leased the Fallout name for 3 games (New Vegas was considered the 2nd of those games), but later in 2008, they decided to buy the entire franchise so they can continue development.

So yes, Bethesda will make more Fallouts. Interplay may be making the Fallout MMO, however. We haven't heard back on the result of the settlement between the two companies.

I love the ironic subtext that these songs have when they appear in Fallout. "Going Sunning" can refer to the benign context of the original song... or it can refer to the nuclear war. A lot of those ghouls sure got a thorough tan from that "sunning"!
