  • Try redoing this video please,u r the best

  • The voice is not clear and loud

  • Nice Video project management tip on avoiding a common project planning pitfall That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You

  • Your Video project management tip on avoiding a common project planning pitfall Is Very Useful Sharing

  • Suggestions for improved production: use a lavalier microphone or get very close to the speaker to eliminated poor echoey sound. Then use an external light to properly illuminate the subject and use a good tripod designe for video to eliminate bounces and jerks. Your subject matter deserves good production techniques.

  • Very helpful. The Project Management functions are not phases but are part of every part of the life cycle. Very clear presentation!!! Answered my questions.

  • It's meaningless people, with meaningless jobs as yours which are destroying the fabric of our country.

  • All this is great! Be sure to go to tythepmcoach (com) to and the knowledge center for experience project management.. Also, go to ghostrade a new social network site that will be launched by project managers that is being touted as the next google

  • Thanks for the video, acoustics is not nice, indeed, though. In terms of presentation I like the white board and a very personal approach. Powerpoint is poor design because its simple computer graphics and everybody working with it believes he's a genius.. After the third screen you won't follow it any more. A very individual approach to draw concepts even with chalk and a blackboard is easier to memorize than Excel-like frames. Perfect suits and artificial appearance I find boring as well.

  • Where is the name mango came from?

  • @sanasteve There are 2 official theories and my own unofficial one. The first theory is northern italy. there is a city called mango there and the family name is common in italy and spain. second theory is we are part of a bigger family called manco (pronounced mancho) from Turkey. my personal theory is that my great great grand father was a runner in marathons hundreds of years ago and he was always cheered by spectators with "go, man, go" so they called him man-go. Peace! ;)

  • I found this vid very helpful to understand why I am having a hard time with my PM class. I am a software engineer and I was having a problem separating the software development phases with the management phases. Thanks!

  • @ppardee You are not alone. Most project managers struggle with this issue. You are welcome

  • You need some advice. First of all, golden rule is never do an unprofessional job of presenting yourself. You are the face of your business. I am sure you are a knowledgeable person, but the quality of the content and the video is very low. I wouldn't hire you as a PM based upon what I saw. My dad always said, if you can't do a job well, then don't do it at all. First impressions are the lasting ones.

  • What the h are you talking about? Give me a break. There is no other video like this one demystifying a very common project management error. The content is great in my opinion and the video quality? Do you know about flash conversion limitations? You are talking a load of rubbish my friend. Big talk no action. Business rule # 2, if you don't have anything good to say zip it up. Its a free video for pete's sakes. Gee!

  • @Politicallyricist Let me be clearer. (1) Have material that needs to be presented already prepared. That way, we dont have to watch writing on the board. Its not effective use of time and boring. Try powerpoint. (2) Use good clear video and audio equip so people can & hear see clearly. (3) Speak slower and enunciate your words so people can understand you. (4) Dress business like. (5) Being "free" is no excuse. Also, the problem you point out is not really a huge problem.

  • As with any project, the devil is in the details.

  • thnks ammar today I learned a new skill. INI, PLAN, EXCU, CONT, CLOSE.

  • The most talented and gifted natural "project managers" in the world = Bees, Ants, etc... they knew it all!! :-D

  • Who has certified you as PMP. You are shame on PMP community. I think you bought that certification at what cost.......

Go and understand the basics not your english and the camera of shooting this useless clip.

  • @georgian 75 If you are a PMP what a shame. You certainly did not sign the PMI code of ethics. Why would you act this way?

  • @georgian75...Loosers act like you. What have you offered the PM community on youtube? Nothing. Do you even know what a process is? This guy has given to the community in so many ways. You have no idea. And no Ammar does not know me from Adam. Just telling the truth here. Cut people some slack and stop being a looser man. You must be jealous of him or you are a pmi reject. How could you even suggest that the PMI accepts bribes "he bought the certification". That is a serious allegation.

  • someone who doesn't know these basics should not even be dealing with the project at all ...

  • Project Ex, Why, Zee???? And this guy will tell me how to manage a project... Come on....

  • Just needs to be developed in context and phases. There are alot of stupid dinosaur managers that miss the point altogether, thats why 34% average success of projects...lol

  • Good video.

  • @killerwaz88 Thank you

  • Ammar - Thank you for posting. Even though I do this every day, it is always good to refresh or hear someone else's approach! I would not hire a project manager who believes they know it all and aren't constantly looking to improve, validate and share their base of knowledge.

  • @mikethekhotmailcom Agreed. Thank you. We have to keep learning and to share what we learn.

  • Are we so stupid?

Do we need this video to know that for example a construction process goes through design, foundations, etc ?

Come on guys, we - Project Managers - know why a failure in our projects can occur; let's talk for example about underestimation of effort required (e.g. for lack of competencies when evaluating the duration of some activies), lack of resources (during execution), failed control of suppliers (the least reliable ones were selected because of budget), etc etc

  • True there are many things that can go wrong, however staying on the ball helps overall in the process.

  • I think this video is valid. Too many PMs don't understand the basics of planning. Ammar is highlighting a common mistake made by beginners (and experienced PMs that should know better).

  • I've worked for 3 companies in my life and every time, on day 0, I could simply share with new colleagues how things are going.First, how the job is worked out, from sales up to the final acceptance certificate. So, getting familiar with the "natural" planning of those jobs (design&engineering, procurement, manufacturing, shipment, erection and commissioning) was the easiest thing; then, we can talk about difficulties in getting the right budget, planning correctly the above phases, controlling.

  • Who read the PMBok knows this is the basic for project management ...

  • Excellent point; so true.

  • While driving my core competencies home, my paradigm shift got stuck in my win-win scenarios.

  • it's a interesting paradigm, but every project is unique and it all comes down to good management.

  • Kindly pls delete this video ASAP .. you are wrong 100%

  • No, the project schedule should reflect the process used to implement the project deliverables, not the processes used to manage the project.

  • Thank you! It's helpful for me.

  • Simplified -Initiate/Plan/Execute/Control/Close are components of how manage a project and should not to be confused with project tasks

  • Correct.

  • The big question is... has the the young gentleman speaker confused the issue here?

Surely a handshake over the pub is your initiation, the sketch in your diary with contact details of contractors is your PID... you would have done a feasibility study, so that's your business case, the PM is your architect... etc So interestingly, you have all your phases...

  • The main highlight for me was when you called me "young" thank you ;]

  • Product-oriented project structure keeps the manager and the team focused on the end-result. It avoids unnecessary overhead tasks. The indented WBS should reflect the actual steps (best practice?) for getting from requirements to delivered product. I think the presenter has it right, and that he has worked with some PMs who cost their organizations a lot of unnecessary time and money -- Lessons learned! I.

  • Good Job, thanks

  • Great point.

An all too frequent mistake from way too many pms.

  • management is really sucks , i don't know why engineering student have to take such irrational subjects

  • I've been in the software industry for over 17 years, and once thought like this. Reality is however that it is the approach of management to projects, such as team building, quality management and effective processes that make the difference between a success and failure; NOT technical issues.

  • With all due respect sir, you're wrong

Process you describe as poject phases (Initialize - Planning - Execution - Control - Finish) actually works!

Those are phases, right, but you should add as many stages as you need and each of this stages incluges all those project phases. That´s how it works.

You should read the PMBOK. I think you're confused...

  • Hi,

Thank you for your participation and commments. PM process groups (initiating planning, etc)are NOT project phases. The PMBOK itself warns from confusing the PM process groups with project phases. Please refer to PMBOK 3rd edition, section 2.1.1 end of 1st paragraph: "The phases of a project lifecycle are not the same as the project management process groups."

Unfortunately, many show similar misunderstanding and that is why I decided to tackle this subject. I wish you well.

    Ammar

  • Unfortunately, many might look at this as a simple issue, but it is not. without clearly defined phases, projects can be carrying too much risk too far into the project.

  • To determine with the client the end requirement. To divide the construction into packages, to analyse each package, and to ensure the firms really know what is required, how and when. And to plan in the procurement process from the client. Theoretical project managers like this guy don't work for the clients of today

  • This is bollox A PM has to see the project to the end.His job is to analyse Risk and deliver the three main project requirements

On Time,Under Budget,And to the required quality. No diagram on a board can ensure this, only experience and a clear vision of exactly what is to be achieved can do this.

  • The point being made to me was that things like planning and control occur throughout a project, just like quality. If quality is treated as a phase - ie the testing team become responsible for quality alone you will not achieve quality - since quality is built in through the entire process. Thus planning and control should also be occuring throughout a project. What he is saying is that you should plan phases of the project based on the problem domain. Quite sensible to me.

  • Good effort. And thanks for explaining in a simple way.

  • Very clearly stated...Great work

  • Your on target.....

  • Great video, thanks heaps

  • interesting

  • Thanks for the snack ... keep it up ;)

  • Nice work coach! Can't for more nuggets form your side.

    Regards,

    Ali J

  • * Can't (wait) ;)

  • Great Tip. Hope you keep posting more tips about PM. Many Thanks

  • Good Job keep going

  • Thanks for the simple and straightforward explanation. I will be checking out other videos you post.

  • Makes sense

  • Good points. Hope you do more on creating WBS for projects.
