You would rarely ever get hurt at Steep by King waves because there is dirk hatog island in front of you taking the bashing of the waves. ps i love steep point but went there when the mackie off season was not there so we just caught mainly snapper nw snapper and gt and other things

I'm heading up there this weekend for a week of fishing. Planning on taking all my rock climbing gear so I can anchor myself to the rockface. Fuck dying trying to catch a fish ;)

i was undwerwater for 10 - 15 seconds, and the only reason i didnt get dragged off was because i knew how to, as an experienced rock-climber, to lock a fist into a crack in the rocks. This is a very very dangerous place, you should always wear and anchor on any of these ledges. It gives me the willys just looking at this footage now..

the first ledge you are on - the one south of steep point, is exactly the spot i came very very close to losing my life 3 years ago. I went down to have a look in easy 2m swells, and got nailed by a frickn king wave that had to have been over 10m high, its surge completely cleared the cliff face and then literally fell back onto that ledge, so in effect i got hit twice.

The gaff is fantastic.. there is a ring that makes it close when you you pull the rope..

I am a traveler rockfisher, please give me hints on this great spot!
