once you build the LED interface then you can write a computer program to turn this typewriter in to a printer and use a computer instead of the tape drive that's built in ?????????

Does the solenoids have a type of feedback, if so they are probably are proportional type, meaning they probaly have variable voltage pulling the solenoid in so far to a cetrain point and stops. Not like a standars solenoid that goes full sstroke either direction. Great vid Chad
