I had 3 large oscars and a pleco that got along great. The oscars would take turns going head down and tail up.. turn a very dark color and the pleco would clean their sides off. Its a parasite cleaning thing that happens in the wild. My fish didn't have parasites but they did this from time to time (just nature being nature). Very interesting to watch. Their just buddies in this video..
Yeah it's just the Oscar is lonely. Might have had "whole in the head" disease, coming from Petco I wouldn't doubt it. I worked at an Aquarium Store and and Petco. Sad to say Petco usually don't have the right people working the fish department. Anyways I have seen sensitive salt water tangs have holes in the head. (all the way through), and they bounced back, healed up as long as you keep the water clean and PH right.
The oscar is just hanging out with his buddy, nothing more.
@pitbull0592 He was about an inch when we got him, and this video was taken roughly around when he was two years old or very close to two years since purchasing.
My Red Oscar and Pelco are best buds. I got them both out of the same tank at Wal-Mart (I rescued them!) because they were always by their sides, as they are now in my tank!
You know? My pleco ate my goldfish's eyes, they eventually died, know what I did? I took that nigga off the tank, put him in the sun until it dried up and then threw the stupid bastard to the crap pile. DON'T BUY THESE HIDEOUS THINGS.
I think they are buddies. When I first filled my tank at the end of 2007, I had a bunch of guppies and a molly. One day I looked in and one of the female guppies was following around the molly and vice vesa. They never left each other's side. When the molly died, however, the female guppy got really lethargic and died herself of depression I suppose...none of the other fish died or became sick...it was just a lost friendship! So yes, fish can become buddies!
i believe this to be true of their owners as well. About a month after this video i left my gf at the time and moved back home leaving the fish at her fathers house. Then shortly afterwards she left without the fish as well. he was well maintained by the father but i'm guessing after we left, he got depressed and eventually died a month later. The pleco, i was told was given to the local fish store about a month ago. they said he was a foot long.
I had no job at the time and hated taking public transport in vancouver so i didnt have enough river and ocean rocks to hid the pleco from the oscar. So the hampster house was a cheap fix.
No, they had a special relationship, they grew up together and after the oscar ate everything else, the pleco was all that was left. I wish i had more video of them playing but i dont't. Im set on getting another oscar this year.
i was told my oscar died 4 days ago. I left my ex-gf at the end of october, and my ex left her fathers place 3 weeks ago. Apparently after she left the oscar stopped eating food of any kind and recently died. im sorry i left you behind.
right now they are in a 29 gal tank, im not sure how he would like another in his space. he eats all the other fish, which is why i had to get the hamster house to protect the pleco. I bought them both from wal-mart about 3 years ago now, and they have a really weird relationship. When the oscar tries to bite the pleco, the pleco swats his tail at the oscar as a kinda get ahold of yourself man, im your brother you dont eat me...lol
