@dmreaper I couldn't see the Denver game on TV in California this past Sunday. I called my son in Denver to get the score and he told me the Broncos were down 10 - 0 with a few minutes left. A few minutes later he called to tell me the game was tied. He called back as Prater was getting ready to kick the winning field goal in overtime. I heard the final score in real time, as it happened. We both went crazy.
The 1977 Broncos were quite the cast of characters. They had the great, Orange Crush defense; they had a "running back by committee" running game (primarily because their star RB, Otis Armstrong, was injured - in and out of the lineup) that gained over 2,000 yards (bunch of guys with 400-480 yards), and their offensive "leader" was veteran QB Craig Morton, who won the AFC MVP Award. That was quite a season.
@McGlasshole The '77 Broncos were a great bunch. Morton had an incredible year. Randy Gradishar was such a fan favorite - and Tom Jackson. I love that he anchors that ESPN show with Chris Berman. Jackson is the perfect counterpart to Berman. He's carefully put up him all these years, which I don't think is easy to do. That '77 season, with Alzado and the Orange Crush was special because as you pointed out, it finally made up for all the disappointing years.
I remember this jingle very well. No matter how much success the Broncos had later on, during the Elway years, that first Super Bowl season of 1977 will always be my favorite Bronco season. Prior to that season, the Broncos had been around since 1960, and never made the playoffs...they had only 3 seasons over .500 (1973, 7-5-2, 1974, 7-6-1 and 1976, 9-5...just missed the playoffs in 1973 and 1976). So, going 12-2, winning the playoffs and advancing to the Super Bowl was fantastic.
@happyjack666 Hi. Thanks for sharing. Can you believe the Broncos won again today? In San Diego? It's unbelievable. I kinda like the Chargers coach Norv Turner, but I love seeing arrogant Philip Rivers lose. He's gloated over beating Denver too many times. I can't believe how different Denver is playing now than at the beginning of the year. GO BRONCOS !
@hilopadx I remember Lyle Alzado well. He made quite an impression. My kids and I made up a song about him back then. The lyrics consisted of: "Lyle Alzado, Lyle Alzado, Lyle Alzado, was born in New York." We had fun with it. Too bad he's not still around.
12/18. It's halftime and we need another miracle.
