I've been searching for this song EVERYWHERE ever since I heard it on Twister! I didn't know the name of it so it took a while, but it was worth ever second! I LOVE THIS SONG!!<3 <3
I love your music brother! My mom lived in Paris and is friends with your family. I saw you at Summerfest in MKE, and you are absolutely phenomenal live! When is the album dropping? I hope you make it out to PHX, I would love to come see you guys play again.
love this song reminds me of my adopted grandma love you ms berdidean i know i will see you again 1 day and i cant wait till that day love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to high school with this guy. Brett is one of the nicest guys you could ever met. He came home to Paris for our county fair last summer. He really is one of the greatest guys I know.
my great grandma had alzheimers. it was always hard going in to see her, because every time she would call me by my dads name and start trying to remind me to do things around the farm. Everytime i would smile and tell her yes ma'am. It's been 5 years since we lost her, and the day that woman left earth, heaven definately gained an angel.
my grandma has Alzheimers. its so sad. and I feel so bad about never going to see her anymore. and when I listened to this again(i kind of forgot about it)a horrid guilt like feel on my shoulders. just 2 weeks ago I went and saw my grandma, she never smiles anymore, she barely talks, or when she does, its like a whisper, and its just random things and sometimes you can catch a random word. this thing.. is so horrible. I love this song so much, cause it says it all.
@buckshots500 Yeah the respect for our elders and true leaders has turned to shit. Not many of us could live under the conditions our great, great grand parents lived. No AC, refrigerators, plow that field, buck that bale, may be Hank has taught us how to stay alive after all, oh by the way I am a Veit Nam Vet and 60 yrs young. Enjoy messing with those who don't respect their elders, they respect their betters. lol
This song was released shortly after my grandmother passed. She did not have Alzheimers but she was in a nursing home. One of the employees made a special point to go to her room every day, even on days he was off work - just to check on her, say hello and make sure she had anything she wanted or needed. When the register book was opened at the funeral home, his name was the first on the list. This song still takes me back.
this song breaks my heart every time i hear or see the video it makes me cry but i love it alzheimers is so so hard to deal with but you can only try to love them through it
I really enjoy this music and video, but I can't understand the gravestone's 1949 and 1943 in this song. Someone, tell me about it. Since I'm Japanese, explain with plain words please(*´・ω・`*)
@lalachatte The woman in the song (clearly) has alzheimers, and because of that her mind tells her it's 1943, and the 1949(the year on the gravestone) is the year or son was born, and 1971 is the year he died.
this is one of the reason i listen to country music... there is a story in every song. i cried too when i first listen to this song. i used to take care of an elderly who had dementia, she was funny at times and worst when she is confused.. i miss u nonna Venera.
Brett, your song is one of the sweetest & most bueatiful songs I've ever heard. My wife and I sat in front of the TV, watching the video and completely lost it *sobbing*. We both lost our beloved Grandmas to Alzheimer's a few years ago.
@hannahgurl13 Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. Events don't match up to particular years in her mind, the few things she can remember have no context or continuity.
@JhonnyBravo091 just saying vietnam war didnt start until november 1st 1955 and ended april 30th 1975 he was probably born in 49 like on most tombstones when they put birth date and day they died
I love this song. It always makes me cry. I can hear this song every time I visit my grandparents. My grandma always thinks my dad is his father and I just listen as she talks nonsense. My grandfather doesn't know my family anymore. So whenever we visit he gets quite but you can tell that he is a little happier. As I sit with either one of them I know that they are back to years past or just gone completely. But watching them and listening I'm glad I still know them and can be there.
wish he had more songs hes amazing and this song is so amazing makes me cry almost everytime i hear it i always turn it up as loud as i can and just sing along wish i could of had more time with my grandpa
This song is amazing! it reminds me of my grandma ... i visit her almost every day / whenever i can and more and more she doesnt remember who i am .... she calls me rosemary .. she thinks im my oldest sister most of the time ... and i just smile and go with it ... it is soo heartbreaking to see older people go through this terrible disease i wish they could find a cure !
right after this song came out my uncle Joe ended up in the hospital. room 303...can u believe it. what a coincidence !!! same room number as the song....
Omigosh, this was such Deja Vu for my older brother! Every year, we try to make a lot of Valentines for the ppl @ the nursing home down the street, and my younger sister and i were delivering one to a person on the back side of a curtain, and when we were done, my brother was there, with an elderly lady holding his hand, saying: 'I love you.' over and over again. My mom l8r said that he was sort of like Jesus 2 her, he was someone she loved in her head. Even if HE wasnt the real person she luvd.
I had never heard this song before. I came across it Googling my name. I can't stop crying after hearing such a beautiful song. My own mother now 89 has all of her good years behind her, but thankfully still with all her faculties and still loved so much by her son, Raymond.

that's who he thought i was he died two years later. I'll never forget how his face lit up that day when i walked in it was the first time i'd seen him smile.

I came in one christmas and he came up and said very softy Hi sweetie i missed you...hugged me and kissed my forehead and then walked away. I was in tears happy ones, but i didn't understand and i found out he had a daughter that use to come spend christmas with him.
Thanks to all the veterans who are serving or have served for this good ole USA. I'm proud to be an American, and even more proud of those who serve. Thank you.
I visited an older lady that had breast cancer every chance i got, she said i reminded her so much of her grandson that died in the marines. safe to say that i became her "adopted grandson" she passed through heavens gates three days ago, i chose this song to be played at her funeral and i cried like a baby. rest in peace margret "grandma" jones.....I love you.
I used to work in a nursing home, a little depressing but man it sure did have its perks.. everybody loves you when you brought the food out.. I was by far the favorite. There was so many great stories that i heard from all sorts of people. and I miss them.

I volunteer at an assisted living and i talk with the residents that have alzheimers and one one man broke my heart because he was only 59 and in the later stages of it...He usually didn't notice me or talk, but i still talked to him.
