i miss the times where watching this film would be the most magical time of my life and my nana would always pretend that tinkerbell was in the bedroom keeping me safe. i miss the times when i was younger, i really do fucking hate growing up
this made me tear up. I LOVED the old Disney movies like Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, Icabod and Mr. Toad, & Fun and Fancy Free. I liked them more than the 90's Disney movies and thats kind of weird because i grew up in the 90's. But Those movies were GREAT, too :D
The second star to the right shines in the night for you to tell you that the dreams you plan really can come true. The second star to the right shines with a light so rare. And if it's Never Land you need, its light will lead you there. Twinkle, twinkle, little star, so we'll know where you are. Gleaming in the skies above, lead us to the land we dream of. And when our journey is through, each time we say good night, we'll thank the little star that shines the second from the right.
From the wonderful 50s, the last innocence of this kind of music. Alas after this music came pure junk called rock and roll. It killed the appreciation of this music--until youtube!''
All this lovely American Light Music has been re-discovered by the young people who also find it wonderfu. Cheers!
@michaeljacksonlov6 I feel the same way... but you know, childhood only ends when you let it. If you can watch this movie and still say that you believe that the one bright star you see in the sky is the way to Neverland, then your childhood isn't over, no matter how old you are ;)
P.S. Thank you so much for posting the real clip. This movie is very special to me and I love it. I haven't seen it since I was at least six and it brings back memories. I really apperecialte it.
words cannot explain how happy this song makes me. I'm getting a decal for my room wall that says "the second star to the right & straight on till morning" i'm so excited<3
The male voices in this song remind me of exactly what my Grandpa sounds like. Which makes me REALLY happy. Because I haven't seen him in nearly 6 months (I moved, but I will move back thankfully.)
God fucking dammit. I miss the old Disney, now all they got are those stupid shows. Shake it up, Good Luck Charlie, Ant farm? Are you fucking kidding me? Don't even get me started on the new Tinkerbell! THE BITCH AIN'T SUPPOSE TO TALK! Shit heads.
does anyone know where i can watch this movie for free without having to jump through hoops? please tell me! i wanna watch this movie so bad, and no one on youtube seems to have uploaded an unedited version! im desperate! DX
There's something precious about the way old films begin with the credits and choir singing or Big Band sounds from instruments. I mean beginnings like The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Snow White, Bambi, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio, though not always Disney or targeted at children. It makes me glad my life began with them.
Everyone loves the Disney version of Peter Pan. What's weird is that the RKO logo isn't shown on the 1990 VHS. Only on the 1998 VHS, 2002 DVD, and 2007 Platinum Edition DVD.
@arvadasally The Little Mermaid actually started production in 1939. Disney was planning to make a live action/animated movie based on the Hans Andersen Fairy Tales. However, due to money and the war, the film was left unreleased. When work on the new version from 1989 began, some of the art was taken from the original 1940's version. Peter Pan was also started in 1939, but was stopped in 1945, then continued. So it is possible that they used a storyboard for the opening sequence here.
@avalanchesuperstar The film was to be a biography based on Hans Christian Andersen's life. It would have mixed live-action and animation; the sequences showing Andersen's life would have been live-action and the sequences based on his fairy tales would have been animated. The sketches for The Little Mermaid sequence were drawn by an artist named Kay Neilsen. If you search "little mermaid kay neilsen" on Google Images, you can see them.
@smilefumble I know all about the movie. The sad part is Kay Nielson (who was actually an illustrator of children's books) ended up very poor and sick, and he died in 1959.
And i've seen plenty of those pictures before, he did a great job on them; and he also worked on the "Night on a Bald Mountain" sequence in Fantasia and some artwork for Pinnochio.
If only Disney had paid those artists well back then :(
The melody of this song was originally written for a song in Alice in Wonderland entitled Beyond the Laughing Sky. That song was not used in the film because Kathryn Beaumont (voice of Alice) had difficulty singing it.
I'm glad. I think the mood of this song is wrong for the film Alice ended up being. This thing is downright melancholy, very different from Alice's comic, slightly callous feeling.
Actually though, the sad feel of this song is TOTALLY lost in this YouTube upload because, like too many YouTube uploads, the pitch is too high for some reason. It completely changes the music's feeling. Check out the "real" version and you'll see what I mean. watch?v=8hR67yUkwUA&feature=related
Aw! Memories! I also like the Jonatha Brookes' version, but I'm not a fan of the Jesse McCartney version. I mean there's nothing wrong with it, but a pop version of this is like the Leaning Tower of Pisa out of crackers.
Everyday when my mother would pick me up in the car from elementary school, my three-year-old brother would ALWAYS be watching this movie... and I'd never get tired of it.
I watched it so many times that I memorized Wendy's lines in the beginning.
heres a secret, when i was little i had a crush on peter xD i was so silly as a child <3

TV: The second star to the right, shines in the night for you
Me:*tearing up* This man was a genius.
*eight-year-old comes in and takes the remote*
Me: Oi! I'm trying to watch a Disney movie.
Eight-year-old: That's not Disney. There's no flashy lights or famous people. *switches channel to Dinsey Channel*
TV: You get the best of both worlds--
Me: BLASPHEMY!!! *gets revolver and shoots TV*
