Fantastic playing all together! I don't know about the comment on chord banging on the guitar though, I'm an Irish trad musician and for me and others that watched this video thought it was brilliant.
I like where the Dog comes in and is like, whats up???BTW I like the guitar playing and think it suited the tunes. Also, does the banjo player use finger picks? Shit you're a good Banjo Player...also, 6 string banjos (Banjitars) are pretty lame, I must agree with that as well! They aren't a banjo. Its closer to a dobro if you ask me.
The Guitar players a lovey flatpicker but when he's accompaning he should stop chord banging. Nothing worse in Irish trad than a chord banging guitar player, dying to be heard. a simple gentle rythym played nice and steady works far better
i just read lower down and spotted the 8th string? peg on the side of the neck , its a 5 string with extras... no wonder it sounds so good i can still dislike 6 string banjos... phew...
12/10 I have just been converted, i have always hated the brash loud jangle from 6 string banjo.( i think i also dislike how ppl pick them up and imidiately think they are a banjo player and strum dueling banjos)
THAT is how i 8/6 string banjo should be played,to sound like a tenor banjo , NOT strummed like a guitar.... are you listening ppl? I especialy like the pinched chords, making it sound like 5 string backup.nice crossover style.
Every time i hear this i want to get my accordion out and play along. Hey i've worked out how to watch this in high quality just type in &fmt=18 after the URL in the address bar, so right after it says yOc type it in and click go. This works on every YouTube Video. Keep up the fantastic work guys
Thanks for playing in Paris Tenn. Seen you all their.Bought and listened to several of your cd's. They as well as your performance opened up my appreciation for different types of music. Up until now I haven't listened to much celtic/irish music. I liked all that you played Sat. night. Maybe I can make it sometime to see Tim, Gretchen, Jim Merrell and whoever else plays on the riverbarge in Nashville. For sure when it warms up some. Thanks again.
(I just hope, being a couple of thousand miles away from Tennessee myself, you'll issue a CD one of these days so that we can all enjoy more of your music :-)
Excellent choice of tunes and well done! What is the tuning on the 8 string banjo? I assume it is a custom neck on maybe a Stew-Mac pot? Is the finger picking on it you own creation? Just a great great video!
Great Job Dan and Tom! You guys sound great. I love it when the dog comes in for a visit! That 8 string Banjo is something else, great fiddlin' and great flatpickin' on the Guitar as well. I would love to see Y'all in Flatpick guitar Magazine!

Read their description. They do not claim to be playing Irish trad music, just the instruments. I LIKE his "chord banging."

It's an instrument that I invented. It has two lower strings and one higher than a five string. Tom.
