  • It's indeed amazing. That opening number was originally aired on Saturday Evening, April 04, 1970. Besides, me and the rest of my family were living in GUAM with only one commercail station and only one educational station. How about that? I don't think "The Lawrence Welk Show" was aired on KUAM-TV.

  • It's amazing, they changed the key words to this wonderful old song. It was originally entitled "Take your girlie to the movies if you can't make love at Home", Funny how Welk obviously considered those words too risque for the 1960's but the song was sung without such regard by the leading singers of the day on record way back in 1919!! what a scream.

  • So THAT'S why that line never made any sense. "Take your girlie to the movies if you can't see her at home."

  • Yes, and they even included the least of the risque verses, "Don't forget to brush the powder off your sleeve", but left out others like "Soldiers always go there when their on a lark, you should see how they maneuver in the Dark!"and "If you have some trouble keeping her awake, try to love your next door neighbor by mistake" or There's no little brother there who always squeals, you can do an awful lot in 7 reels" !! All of those and others, left out to maintain the show's Wholesome image.
