  • A young woman on a old horse

  • i was scared

  • freakin amazing!

  • Well, I could do the left hand :D

  • This my friends, this is no piano playing.... this is called finger acrobatics.

  • Ik buig mijn hoofd voor zoveel schoonheid en intelligentie

  • There's a lot of talent here.

Isn't it time she had a few words with Steinway New York?

  • @steelbraces steinway and bosendorfer are two very different makes of pianos, both have different tones. personally i rate bosendorfer slightly above steinway

  • @guycrosswell

Thank you for your comment, Guy. It is obvious that piano tones and actions vary greatly. It always mystified me that Cziffra played a Yamaha! Some 10 years ago, I spent several days in the company of a well known virtuoso and his family. We talked of pianos and performers at length. He told me that, in a long career, he had played on only two Bosendorfers that he felt were first class. There is a big difference even between Steinway US & Germany.

    Best wishes, David.

  • THIS IS F*CKING AMAZING!!!!!! CHOPIN'S SOUL IS IN VALENTINA NO DOUBT!!!! AWESOME INTERPRETATION!!!

  • I don't know what I've been doing with my piano lessons all these years....

  • the piano didnt saw that coming !

  • i love to listen chopins etudes from valentina...

  • I'm a percussionist, but it's obvious even to me that her skills and musicality are inhuman...!!!

  • I am in even more love with her now. o_o <3 I didn't know she performed this song! Her Appassionata performance was my favorite, but I'm not so sure now :)

  • BRAVO!!!

  • how long have u playing piano

  • @erkaoogii Valentina is a famous concert pianist. She's been playing since she was a child, and was in fact I believe a child prodigy.

  • there is no better interpretation of this, I have heard¨

    Alexander

  • @AlexanderNautic

Or you are just one of her "team members" that creates fake channels and writes bullshits!!!

  • Like wind.

  • @59lolalisa hahah yeah, a nickname for this piece is "Winter Wind", quite fitting.

  • i ll go back to lugansky

  • omfg

  • I m training this... Hard one.

  • Imagina a partitura dessa música........ O.O""

  • Valentina Lisitsa is my idol !!!

  • Truly becoming the instrument. Amazing.

  • I LOVE YOU VALENTINAAAA

  • I have this on CD (Ashkenazy recording) Haven't played it for ages but think I'm now going to make it my alarm wake up call.

  • 0:29- 3:42 is a crazy atomic bomb, MegahellgodofMC!

  • But great piece and played beautifully.

  • I am tired of ppl saying HQ ang the uploading 480p

  • Es increíble... Adoro la interpretación de Valentina, y el estudio es complicado a rabiar. Muchísimo virtuosismo y perfección de técnica, y además, pasión. No podía ser otro más que Chopin...

  • oh my god

  • Cada vez que escucho esta cancion... Me emociono.

  • Bravo Valentina!!!

  • What more could I ask for?

  • @Serrana395 Op. 10 No. 4 =)

  • It's as if her fingers are in love with piano and her heart is in love with Chopin! <3

  • @piano9977 i think her heart is in love with her husband

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman Damn, she has a husband? I thought I stood a chance there =D

  • I hate it when people are like "Oh! I can play this piece and I'm only twelve! It's not even hard!" The thing that they are missing is passion and emotion in their playing! No one can play like this!

  • @dship98

Agreed. One thing is playing mechanically and faking the passion and emotion. Honestly, they aren't supposed to pull of a Lang Lang (although he does have great abilities as a pianist).

  • @HarmonicCorruption

Agreed, but that's not just it. It takes an adult's physical development to truly master a piece like this. (That is: playing with seemingly so little effort, that a pianist has capacity left to make actual music, instead of just hitting notes.) Annoying kids can't do that. Simple as that.

  • @dship98 Indeed, I couldn't agree more. I generally never click piano videos that begin like "8-YEAR-OLD PLAYS CHOPIN !!" or something like that. And it's not jealousy, I just don't like young people playing.

  • you are just amazing, you made me start practice piano... you are one beautiful dream..... PLEASE COME TO BRAZIL.

  • @gazparzin Actually she went to Brazil, to play Beethoven´s Piano Concerto No. 3, I think in August ?

  • i mustve seen wrong. ya probably. i just probably fast fowarded the song. ya. it was just a dream... right? nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im like a little mouse compared to her! oh right! this was just a dream.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa pooordios, algun dia me saldra bien aaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! rayos

  • Psh I could do tha- okay. No.

Excuse me while I go sob in a corner.

  • beautiful

  • I think she missed a note in there...

  • Never judge a song by its first 28 seconds..

  • @turtleforlife11 perhaps that 28 seconds is even more powerful and profound than the rest

  • @turtleforlife11 This is not a song.

  • @empfindungsamkeit , He is not really a turtle.

  • @turtleforlife11 You can still judge the first 28 seconds and it's still awesome.

  • @turtleforlife11 First I was like: "yaaa a song I can try to learn ;D!" And then i was: "nooodafuck O_O?"

  • @turtleforlife11 cool :P but its not a song , but a great etude by chopin my friend :DDD

  • @turtleforlife11 piece piece piece piece piece piece piece PIECE...NOT song

  • @italianstllion93 NAG NAG NAG NAG NAG you got what i meant. Did you not? ya, shut up.

  • so prominently strong with such mystery behind every touch of the key....still romantic to me

  • @.@ COOL

  • Its refered to as the revolutionary etude

  • @vintagehonda83 I thought it was winter wind?

  • @StradAmatiViolin This is Winter Wind. Revolutionary is op 10 no 12

  • @JoeNavarre I know it is! And it's a very lovely piece.

  • @StradAmatiViolin Passion drips from every note

  • @vintagehonda83 no thats op 10 no 12

  • Curioso, yo podría tocar hasta el segundo 30 sin problemas pero luego ni pensarlo jejejeje espero algún día poder al menos aun tengo toda una vida por delante y mucha motivación.

  • wow

  • Nice "Winter Story", but the true "Winter Wind" is Pollini!

  • this is my favorite etude

  • such dexterity!

  • Best I've heard.

  • Conclusion : Chopin should be played by Valentina Lisitsa on a Bösendorfer.

  • most impressive piece by her...because of the sound and power that sticks from the left hand

  • Li Yun Di is significantly better. Her playing is too loud and her hands aren't nimble, but rather heavy...too much rubato also

  • @YnnhojEnak93 And if I had no class, I would critique Yundi Li's perfomances. But since I have respect for other styles and talents, and because I believe Li is also a great talent.... I do not.

  • Li Yun Di is significantly better. Her playing is too loud and her hands aren't nimble, but rather heavy...

  • @YnnhojEnak93

    What does that mean?

Do you want to start a competition?

OK, I prefer listening to Valentina!

  • Currently trying to learn this piece after hearing it from beethoven virus. I've always been a chopin fan, coz he never fails to express how I feel at the moment. The emotions that are over flowing yet it is in complete control...

  • Rapunzel was rushing to get back to her castle. She had a love-hate relationship with the piano. On one hand, it allowed her to release her emotions. On the other hand, she was rather inhibited and didn't know how to INTERPRET nor express them. Thus she realised why she was sad.

  • Not bad, but I recommend interpretation by Janina Fialkowska.

  • She's on a Bösendorfer! So jealous!

  • i think every one of lisitsa's interpretations of chopin's etudes are awesome... except this one... in my opinion, she plays it too quick making it feel extremely deprived of much needed emotion, especially in the left hand.

  • soft pedal THE left hand haha

  • Beautiful piano playing :)

  • Whoever did her hair and makeup for these green-dress Chopin videos, she should hire those people permanently. They make her look as spectacular as she sounds.

  • Apparently, 30 people could play this Etude better than Valentina Lisitsa, and during their practice breaks they watch her Youtube videos even though they dislike them.

  • I have.... no words.... I wanna play this so bad... I so wanna play like her! T__T

  • Did u ever miss a note?? :')

  • the production crew must have been in shock and awe.

But I guess they work with a lot of top classical artists all the time - what a privelege!

  • omg

almost perfect techinque one get ever get

    omg

  • Is this winterwind?

  • @maplenarutox yes

  • @maplenarutox yes it is

  • My goosebumps have goosebumps. I didn't know that was even possible.

  • A very nifty technique, as ever. The trouble for me with Ms Lisitsa (and this is only a first impression) is that everything has to be overmilked - that little bit faster, that little bit too slow - where others summon an orchestral coloration and range from far subtler variations in voicing and texture. For many Romantics, gushing rubato is the kiss of death - and Chopin is prime amongst those.

  • Damn!!!!!!!!

  • Just one word to describe this : magnificent.

  • 0:27 scared the shit out of me! was not expecting that

  • @jdkrensel It's amazing, isn't it? (:

  • Μπράβο!!!!!

  • @telosfd wtf Mr. Greece?

  • Chuck Norris? One hand >:D

  • Holy shit!!! Awesome!

  • Why I imagine Alice falling throught the rabbit's hole into wonderland when i listen to this theme?

  • God helps me! I want to kill myself!

  • Chopin is the shyit!

  • very good in any ways.technically and musically.there are little details like always, but i must say im impressed.congratulations

  • holy f*ck you leave me speechless. I just listened to this like ten times in a row. << you just made me swear, too, and the only time I do that is when I watch your hands.

  • I have attempted to learn this piece once and honestly, it's actually not as hard as it sounds (but it's still HARD). The hardest part honestly is not letting your right hand get tired. This was still a great performance and it was at just the right tempo to still hear a beat and all the notes. :)

  • @Zinlol yeah it is easy to play a song, but hard to put your emotions into it

  • @Zinlol Lol, it's not that my right hand gets tired, but just seems to love skipping notes >_<. XD

  • @Zinlol i agree to both

  • look at 3:26 her left hand plays B but my sheet shows A!

  • @julianakuo chopin revised many of his works numerous times, for example the fantasie impromptu that most people play is actually his first copy, look up rubinstein playing the fantasie impromptu, and there are some strange note changes in that too

  • @julianakuo Scandalous!!!!!! -_-

  • @defenderofthebrave

    absolutely !

  • I have been working for two weeks now to play this on my guitar. It is more difficult of a task than I'd thought.

    I am not giving up.

  • why are there haters for everything? sometimes i wonder how could people hate this?

  • I think in this case, the word "Etude", the "Study" of this piece is more of how far can the pianist playing it ride the line between possible and "HOLY SHIT HOW IS THIS REAL?!"

  • Incredible skill.

  • Umm.. no offense but somehow sounds uneven in tempo from place to place, but it can be just me.

  • @arrau08 It's from the romantic era.... rubato is a very important aspect!

  • Did most composers pull song out of their emotions and feelings? Did the purposely put in meaning to their music? HOW!? If they did then what the hell was chopin thinking creating all this wonderful music~ o.o? Were they supposed to be challenges? my god you are amazing i should just shut up xD

  • Breathtakingly beautiful - from the first tone to the last!! So greatful to have heard this interpretation:)

  • Emocionante

  • pretty!

  • Wow! :D!.... siiii perfecto!

  • Chopin's etudes are what convinced me that I want to be a pianist when I grow up. They're so beautiful, especially this one :D

  • i wonder how many times they have to tune her pianos...

  • Thank you so much for that beautiful playin.

Could sit here the whole night listening to this wonderful etudes.

  • Excuse me, I must go practice Immediately.

  • @Withergarde you must practice chi kung, tai chi and meditation in order to increase your INTERNAL POWER. Otherwise you will never be able to play at this level (that is unless you already have natural technique and a gifted memory).

  • @Withergarde

    good luck :)

  • vaya!...........hay 26 sordos!!

  • Haha so far i know how to play the first part...;)

  • here is the proof for those who has still doubt about Valentina Lisitsa: there is power masculine play together with souplesse in phrasing. This is a very tricky etude and neither Rubinstein nor Horowitz did record it....

  • @aleluman1 nothing sexist about that. I admire Valentinas technique, but this particular etude requires more than fast fingers and emotions. It requires power. Both pure physical strength and mental power. Listen to Richter playing this and you'll know what i'm talking about. It's physically hard for a woman.

  • @InBuxWeTrust Why don't you go learn this song and record it? You watch this amazing recording of Valentina playing this etude beautifully and flawlessly and what you decide to say is ''She's a woman so it's not as good'' If you were a real pianist, you would listen to the music and the emotion in this piece in stead of judging the interpretation based on the gender of who is playing it. So go and be rude somewhere else.

  • very cold, a lot of notes, very fast, but where is the music??? I'm impressed! hahaha

it's a study from CHOPIN not an exercice.......

  • That's really great performance. But still it should be played by a man...

  • @InBuxWeTrust

That's an extremely stupid and sexist comment

  • @aleluman1 troll'd

  • @InBuxWeTrust

    1) Why the hell does that matter?

    2) It is scientifically theorized that males have a harder time applying their emotions to anything but logic (MRI scans). It can be achieved, just not often.

    3) Some people, not saying who, are full of shit. *insinuations*

    4) You must like your music dull and flat to say that.

    5) She's talented. Whether it is a man or woman, very few people can approach this level of mastery.

  • @VyvienneEaux

You do realize that "scientifically theorized" means almost nothing, right? Tbh I don't care if a woman or man plays this, as long as it's played well.

  • Imagine if chopin live longer than just 35 years... The songs would be almost impossible to play!

  • I love Chopin. I wish I had started piano earlier so I could play this now..

  • This is why I don't like Chopin. Too much acrobatics. Less is more to me

  • @busybuzzbuzz Really? Then you must must absolutely abhor Liszt.

  • I began learning this piece and it took me A WHOLE DAY to play it at half tempo.

The chromatic runs aren't bad, it's the (kinda) arpeggios that are tricky since you can't cross fingers over as such a fast tempo

  • @Pianist46 wow, a whole day? :) come on, managing to play it, even at half tempo, in one day is really, really good! things take time... don't rush yourself. and congratulations!

  • If you want to know how to play this and don't know how, Take a look at Paul Bartons tutorial on his channel at PaulBartonPiano!

  • wow, i remember my piano teacher playing this before.

  • Wow! She's an amazing talent. Does everyone realize just how difficult this piece is to play??

  • @beethoven2351 The fingering isn't any tougher than most of Chopin's other etudes. The devilishly hard part is getting the dynamics right.

Compare this to Kissin's performance. Ms. Lisitsa puts the MUSIC on display; Kissin puts his technique on display. She offers us the Etude; Kissin forces it down our throats. We can actually HEAR Chopin (Lisitsa) rather than a flurry of flash and dazzle that happens to coincide with the notes Chopin wrote (Kissin).

  • @TomBarrister It's funny you type this because ironically i feel it's the other way around. In my opinion I actually perfer Kissin. Everybody has their own preference of what music is though, and since that is the case, you're wrong, because truth is both pianists are musical, each in their own way. It's up to the listener to determine how they feel great music. Many feel it's Lisitsa, many feel it's Kissin, and many more feel it's someone else.

  • I love the chord change at 0:47

  • damm she scared me the hell out of mee at =:30 x]

  • O.O

  • DOMINATION!!!!!!!!!

  • She's mad! hahahaha every piece she plays could blow up my mind if I tried to play them ^_^ Excellent!

  • Things that just the art can give us. It's amazing to think that an instrument produces all this sound. There's no technology involved. Proud to be human [2]. Congratulations Valentina.

  • ...what would make Valentina sweat? ... Well, I imagine it has taken far more 'sweat' for Valentina to reach and to maintain the level of artistry she enjoys, than most of us can possibly imagine.

  • awesome I can't explain wow wonderful

  • electrifying virtuosity

  • Valentina, you are my favourite *___________*

  • I would love to hear her play Chopin's Polonais Op. 53! I can't find it anywhere on youtube. Or am I blind?

  • Fabulous facility....

  • its probably me, but does she seriously remind you of donna from thats 70 show when she had blond hair. i always imagine her in the place of valentina. its sad but true

  • @MisterBREADbasket ehh maybe at some angles she does but no

    donna looks american..valentina looks foreign

  • @4hm3dimr4n She's Ukranian.

  • you play this etude perfectly, wow, it's magic, so beautiful! :)

  • Geez! i keep pressing thumbs down on peoples comments... whats wrong with me!! This song is amazing though :D

  • Wonderful interpretation...like a 'Winter wind'
