The purpose is to show how fast the game can be beaten when pushed to its limits, how fast can a human player beat this game with perfect reflexes and precision.

Fake would be if it was a TAS, but the runner said it was a real time run. There's nothing weak with it however.

@therunner515 He's using some glitches, going through the wall for example, which is perfectly legit in most speedruns. Including this Tool Assisted Speedrun. If there are glitches that will speed up the run, they will most likely be used.

It only looks like he's getting hit because of how the hitboxes work in the game, nothing out of the ordinary really.

@therunner515 It isn't always easy to define what a glitch is either. And some glitches are even "accepted" by the creators. The minus world glitch in SMB for example.

This isn't legit in the way that it isn't a run made on console. But most console runs are using glitches. Some glitches I can agree with makes the run less fun to watch. 120 stars VS 0 stars in SM64 for example, where the 120 category is more interesting to see.

But yeah, everyone has their own opinion, of course =).

To the people saying 'durr, fake' or that he's using a cheat device - he is not. There are numerous collision bugs in the game that allow you to clip through objects at certain points. It requires pixel-perfect precision, which is where the 'tool-assisted' part comes in. Tool-assisted doesn't mean cheat device - it means the use of save states and slowing down the game speed as it's played in order to make those jumps and/or runs.

@terroristbombing It's a tool assisted run through, of course it's cheating. But he wasn't running a game genie if that's what you're implying. TAS allows you to have reaction time unlike any normal way of playing could. And the game is quite old, and thus has exploits that can be used throughout the entire game. It's a speedrun, it's not all about playing legit, it's about getting it done fast.
