  • Our driver messed up a M113 wagon with one of theese in.. blew coolant fluid through the exhaust. was pretty nasty.

  • What is the weight on this engines and what series number would you need to use to get parts for them just in case you would like to convert a old mecanical one?

  • @smallhopps thanks for the help mate, just wondering if you could tell me what this motor is called , is it a 6v53Ta silver DDEC III ???

  • @CUTCAT55

Yes it is a Silver 6V53TIA DDEC TIER III engine

It develops 835lb/ft of torque at 1600rpm, 750lb/ft at 2800rpm

Idle rpm is 500-600, and peak rpm is 2800rpm loaded, 3025rpm unloaded

It is a 2 cycle engine, V6, 53 cubic inches per cylinder, 318 cubic inch total displacement, crosshead pistons, turbo bypass blower, intercooler, aftercooler, electronic injectors, glow plugs, 400horsepower.

  • @screaminjimmy6V53T

sounds pretty good, don't suppose you could tell me where i could put my hands on one ?

  • @CUTCAT55

There were a pair of 350hp DDEC Silver 6V53TIA's on ebay back in April.

The seller wanted $9,950 for each of them.

If it helps any, the seller's number is: 586-749-0600

Many of the internal parts will interchangeable between the older mechanical engines and the new electronically controlled ones.

The main differences are heads, blower (has no governor on it), ecm, injectors, block (it is machined differently), and some small proprietary stuff ...

  • @screaminjimmy6V53T You can get tier 3 emmision compliance from this engine?I would have to see that one!

  • so i just wanted to confirm with anyone who knows ,

this is a "6V53Ta silver DDEC III" is that correct ???

if not can anyone please tell me EXACTLY what it is ?

Also can anyone please tell me what sort of RPM the motor is good for ?

and the HP that can be screwed out of one SAFELY with out it going boom ?

Thank you for posting the video.

  • what is the horsepower? 350 to 400 hp??

  • I WANT ONE

  • What's the serial number from one of these DDEC 6V53T's?

    Thanks for the video!

  • wow... our 6V53Ts look ALOT less complicating on our LAV's or at least, alot less tubinng for the cooling system. and not as thick a drive belts

  • the main difference is Silver 53's have cross head pistons all 53's have had 4 valves since the 60's. These ones are DDEC III. They are the only detroit 2 stroke still in production!!!

  • No this was at base maintainance.

  • Is This at CFSEME?

  • How much does this beast weigh?

  • 1600 lbs.

  • absolutely right these engines trace their linage back to the late 30's with the advent of the 6-71 series.nothing sounds like a 53 wound up to 2800rpm or more.....im getting one built to the tune of a 500 hp twin turbo, man i can hardly wait....

  • V 71 and V 92 water pump gear drive V 53 water pump belt drive

  • Back in the 1970's these engines were everywhere. I can recall seeing many GMC engine-forwards and tilt-cabs with 6V-53's in them, White "Compact" tilt-cabs, a few Brockway tilt-cabs, a few Ford Louisvilles, many International engine-forwards and tilt-cabs, even one in a Mack MB tilt-cab!! 6V-53's were also very common in custom fire apparatus of late 1960's-early 1970's vintage, especially in Seagrave, American LaFrance, Maxim, Pemfab, Hahn, and Coast fire apparatus.

  • so this is an eletronic motor then?

  • whoa. i never seen a 6v53 with the 8v92 silvers style valve cover. they didnt make a silver 53 did they?

  • Yes, the DDEC 6v53T shown in this video is one. :)

  • what is the "silver" 4 valve head vs 2 valve?

  • The silver, to my knowledge, denotes a DDEC-equipped engine, not necessarily the # of valves, but I could be wrong.

  • @lilbrudder32

There are mechanical silver trim Detroit Diesels.

There are set of features for them, but blower bypass stands out. All silvers are 4 valve, but so is most production since the sixties.

Silver instead of green paint is a good cue.

  • Sorry, should have said this DDEC engine has a number of improvements on the SILVER 6V53T (which is an improved 6V53T)

  • whats the engine size on 6v53?

  • 53 ci x 6 cyls = 318 ci

  • Or 5.2 L, the same capacity of a Chrysler V8.

  • Nice a 6V53 with DDEC.
