This song reminds me of the bus trip I had to Pittsburgh to see my sister in college for her graduation. My brother and my sister's friend's sister sat with us on the bus. I remember I listened to Is This It on the first part of the ride.

Soma is the fictional hormone-drug from George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. You might as well have put it to an episode of spongebob and it would be just as pertinent as this.

The song symbolizes what the supressed people in the novel should have been thinking and kind of narrates their situation. At least that's my interpretation of it.

Ahh, sorry, I always get the two mixed up, It was George Huxley's Brave New World. I do think that Huxley derived the word from the Hindi Sauma, and that the pharmeceutical is named correspondingly for the drug from Brave New World, so they not completely unrelated.

I was talking about Soma in the context of the song, TheEndlessMike, and I'm not sure how that makes me a dickhead...

In any case, the video still seems. irrelevant, in terms of lyrical meaning and atmosphere.
