  • Was Joey Reynolds in this video?

  • What a waste of material!!! If they'd have dismantle it piece by piece, they could sell it to another guy who needs it. Of course, in the modern "digital" world, we don't have time to dismantle and re-use: we have to destroy, destroy and destroy. That's life folks!!!

  • @jotape1960 And what you aren't considering is that these towers were sent to a recycling facility. Dismantling them would have added a considerable amount of money to pulling the old site apart. The other thing you are not considering is that the developer owned the site and demanded the towers come down immediately. He was not going to wait several weeks to have the towers taken apart bolt by bolt. And this has nothing to do with the "digital" signal WOR transmits. Get off that wagon.

  • Well, seeing as the towers no longer meet current standards, and could not be put back up in any configuration, even shorter, due to Federal law, what would you suggest be done with them? They were taken away for recycling afterwards. We had no choice in the relocation of the site, and the new owner of the property wanted them down - NOW.

  • What a wast of good tower Shame on you.

  • @KZ4USA Towers were went for recycling. ANd there was no time to take them apart. Plus, they did not meet the current standards for towers of that size. Taking them apart would have accomplished nothing except delaying their trip to the recycler - they could not legally have been put back up, and no civil authority would have allowed them to be put back up.

  • Welcome to YouTube, Tom. Hope to see more videos from the field. Love TWiRT.

  • very sad

  • Would that make the picture snowy?

  • right at 0:24 when that piece hits the ground and kicks up the ground absoluetly amazing

  • It fell into a swamp, so that was mud and water... Still very impressive!

  • mi piange il cuore a veder abbattere le antenne....

  • That was neat! It's not every day that we get to see something like this! Thank You for sharing this with us Tom!

  • As an aerial rigger it breaks my heart to see these structures being dropped.

  • Looks like the area where Paulie got whacked.

  • Wouldn't surprise me. The Sopranos were filmed all around this area. The Ba-Da-Bing club isn't far from here.

  • wow that must be corn country

  • Nope. It's 6.25miles west of Midtown Manhattan in the Jersey Meadowlands. Giants Stadium is about 1.5 miles to the north., Newark Liberty International Airport 4.2 miles to the south. Swamp? Yes. Corn? Probably wouldn't grow in that environment.

  • ahahhaha, that commentator sounded like a real tool. he made that funny as hell.

  • Joe is our news director, and he's a good guy. It was intended to be funny - and yes, Joe can be a real tool - but in a good way.

  • aw man what a waste.

  • Well, the steel was recycled, so it wasn't wasted. This was the easiest, fastest, most cost efficient way to take the towers down. If they were dismantled, they could not be re-erected as they didn't conform to current tower construction standards in 2007.

  • What were they doing this for?

  • Due to a redevelopment order from the state, the former WOR transmitter facility in Lyndhurst was condemned and we were forced to move the antenna system and build a new facility 1/2 mile north in Rutherford.

  • Are these the towers that were in a swamp area in New Jersey, not far from Newark Airport?

  • We'r about 4.2 miles from Newark Liberty International, in line with runway 22L. We're also about 2.7 miles from Teterboro Regional, off to the side of the flight paths.

  • musta been a slow news day? XD

  • When you're collapsing three 700' towers just outside of NY City (within sight of ground zero) - which have been a landmark for 40 years - yeah, it becomes a news story. A story, by the way, that got a hit on most local and network newscasts on that day around the country. Ya gotta admit it was cool.

  • the tower demolition took place days after WOR had ceased transmission due to poor ratings.

  • Sorry - wrong answer. We moved teh WOR transmitter site 1/2 mile north and had to take down the towers.

  • I thought you guys were still on the air. It pays to research and not to believe everything one reads on the internet.

  • Was this station owned and operated by Air America and due to NO ratings it had to be destroyed? Al Frankens path of destruction continues

  • Well I heard it was one more tower that became victim of GWB's criminal negligence. Luckily this tower didnt have human occupants, when it collapsed.

  • if you look closely you can see Bush running from the scene with the detonator plunger in his hand, much like in New Orleans and the levees. He also was seen flying the planes in the WTC (ejecting before impact) he assasinated Kennedy (second gunman in the grassy knoll) and NONE of his conspiracies have failed. Wow, that's pretty impressive for someone you call an idiot.

  • Oh I love it. The incompetent, bumbling idiot who can't put a sentence together but somehow managed to successfully mastermind a large conspiracy.

  • That's me a bumbling idiot. I was initially going to say it was global warming that caused the tower to collapse, but that sounded too Algorish, and we know he invented the internet and I don't have the gall to put myself in his league. By the way, thanks for the name calling. Name calling is a sign of higher intelligence.

  • Having re read you post I see your intent. I see you were commenting on Bush causing this incident as I was. I stand corrected on my response and apologize.

Having said that, do you think global warming could have caused this tower to collapse, or did Bush do it? Your comments please

  • Yes we could just blame it on Bush. Hmmmmm.... I'm sure that if Bill Clinton were president that those towers would not have collapsed. They would have been built to last longer had Al Gore been the designer.

  • Algore invented radio towers, and he invented bill clinton.

  • No - we were not and are not an Air America station.

  • So you're still on the air then and don't need taxpayer money to subsidize your political ideolgy? Wow, imagine all you Air America losers, this station actually makes it's own profit by providing quality service.

To you sir, I thank you. To the Air America slugs, how much of my paycheck are you going to need this year?

  • We're owned by a family owned company and produce programming for a radio network we run - in addition to maintaining the NYC radio station. WOR is a legend in the industry. We've been doing a talk/information/entertainment format since almost our sign on in 1922. We make $ the old fashioned way - we produce quality programming and sell commercial time. What a concept!
