I don't quite get the lyrics as a whole, but listening to them twenty-four years after they first were sung, I see the angst of young from that era.

The threat of nuclear war between the U.S. and the then Soviet Union was always looming over our heads.

In a way, it may be why our generation has always been self-centered and desirous of eternal youth. We feared we'd die young, and not know what it meant to really live.

I think any live vocal is hard to master for any singer/band. The performance is good enough for me.

He's lip syncing. Listen at the very beginning of the song. When he sings, "Heaven can wait..." he forgets his line and stops singing yet the record keeps playing. Look at his eyes he looks terrified that he F**ked up!14 seconds into the performance.
