I always really dug Roy Clark and Buck Trent playing twin harmony banjo.
If you enjoy listening to two banjos playing in harmony/ twin banjos style. Terry Ferguson & Randal Morton have just released "TWIN BANJOS"CD, now available thru, CD Baby.com or Randal Morton.com The CD Includes liner notes by banjo greats: Eddie Adcock, Jack Hicks & Carl Jackson. Also check out the amazing video of Pat Cloud and Donnie Allen playing Shuckin' The Corn, Pat Cloud is the best banjo player alive.
"Depending on what type of criminal played which particular instrument, you just MIGHT get a tuba" guy thinks he's funny. But the tuba gives tons of oomph to the bottom end. Give the tuba man a solo, I'm saying....Play some sixteenth note trills ! Also, don't forget: tuba playing is NEVER a crime. And between the outside and the inside is a THIN THIN LINE.
Roy and Buck did another version of this song on their LP called A Pair of Fives (Banjos, That Is), that version is just as good as this one, though a little faster.
@FLINTER1740 Roy Clark was once walking across Wyoming and came upon a barbed-wire fence. Just for fun he played Foggy Mountain Breakdown on it. True story.
This was taped at the Tennessee State Prison. Sometimes during these shows, the prison band will backup the headliners. Depending on what type of criminal played which particular instrument, you just MIGHT get a tuba.
Yeah--like it says, "Spider Murphy playing tenor saxophone, Little Joey blowin' on the slide trombone; the drummer boy from Illinois went crash boom bang...the whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang..."
He has an addition set of tuners on his banjo, call "drop keys". These allow you to ben the strings during the songs. Listen to "Flint Hill Special" by Earl Scruggs. Those are drop keys.
That is a beautiful Gibson RB-800 Banjo in natural finish. The extra tuners on the headstock are the original "Scruggs Tuners"...which worked via a "cam" design to move the string higher and lower. This RB-800 was Gibson's later version of their own original Granada and RB-4/RB-75 models. Due to the high demand, Gibson went back to these original models and reissued them beginning in the 80s! They are HUGE sellers!
one of them is out of tune. sounds awful

What the hell kind of banjo is Roy Clark playing? Some kind of 9 string??? I love Roy, but that thing sounds very strange.

Roy Clark could make two strings sound like twelve. That's how good he is.
