This brings back memories... When I first started playing, I wound up losing 30ish-0 to him <_< Then I figured it out. By the end of the day, it was 50-30. Looking back, I spent way too much time on that one fight <_<

I used to wipe the floor with Tidus, Selphie, Waka (I believe that was his name) three on one, but Riku was just a pain in the ass! I thought he was the hardest boss in the game....until I fought Darkside a second time....then after that, every boss got progressively harder until you could fight Sephiroth. Ansem's easy as hell compared to him.

Clearly, you have not read the title and/or you clearly (probably) have not played or paid much attention to either game.

There is a very obvious difference in the gameplay between Re:CoM and KH1.

I remember that I could never beat Riku, but once I got him figured out I can defeat him at lvl 1. : ) I also noticed that Riku is very vulnerable to damage when he does those big jumps. He also seems to take more damage if u manage to get an air combo on him during those jumps. Sora does mean sky and Riku means land. hmmmmm....

On your first time playing the game? I doubt it since, if you beat Darkside, the lowest possible LV you're at is LV2... meaning Riku could beat you in only 2 hits, if you fought him as soon as you got to Destiny Islands.
