  • Hello .I found this looking for a review on the tone of a modulus VJ.I like your ,it is very graceful and sounds wonderful. The Jazz bass sounds so good!I am ordering a VJ but with chechen fretboard.I should reconsider after hearing this .Just the feel of the wood I guess.I was wondering how to gain knowledge of the fretboard like you have.Is there a home study or computer stuff ,books? how did you gain the knowledge to play as well as you do?I want to head in this direction.Your tone is king!

  • lovely tone, great playing

  • I love it!

  • Incredible.

  • this is beautiful...

  • You are excellent and I love the sound of your bass. The Thomastik Infeld Jazz Round how long do they last before you feel to change them? (The flat ones are really long lasting)

  • @marcelloney - It depends. On my Ken Lawrence (main electric bass) I typically change them every 6 months or so. On my Guild Starfire though I've had the same set for years (about 3 years now I think).

  • @GBagley Thank you for the answer. I love the flat ones, but now I am looking forward to try these, though they are not that easy to find.

    With gratitude, all the best

  • Such a nice tone, I love that bass... together with the stingray, they are my favorites

  • Plugging in directly will give you a very handsome recording tone with pretty much any bass from what I can tell.

  • What do you pay for your Thomastik Infield Jazz rounds?

  • @RonPaulMountainBiker - Same as anyone else (ie. a lot of money!)

  • Fucking masterpiece

  • Thats inspiring 5/5

  • que bien tocas man... para ese facilidad de bajar tonos en tu maquinaria podrias experimentar con alguna cancon e michael manring? saludos

  • I absolutely love this... It's so relaxing... It makes me want to be a bass player. But I play drums and I'm good with that..

  • This is better then 99.9 of all other bass vids on youtube. This guy got skills

  • you can make any bass sound great!

  • No pedals or anything, I'm just plugged in direct. It's a nice bass, but you don't have to spend a ton of money to get a good bass tone.

  • Well I know what bass I'm getting once my paycheck comes in! Sounds great. I figure you record directly, but what would you say is the best amp for the Modulus, or even the KL? I'm thinking of picking up a 5 string since your videos featuring that bass are awesome.

  • I do record direct (most of the time). The best thing you can do is to take your bass into a music store and play it through different amps to get a feel for what sounds best. I use an Acoustic Image Coda Combo. But I mostly do theatrical stuff, so I need an amp that's small and easy to deal with. The Coda is perfect for my needs, might not be for yours though.

  • @GBagley

...fantasic mate...it is possible to provide me with the tabs or chords..to learn it by my self ?????????

  • i love the way you play. you always look so relaxed, just chilling :)

    great tunes as always

  • You play your bass like a guitar. You definitely make people think twice about saying that bass is a simple instrument. Your playing is really beautiful, and I'm now a fan. 5/5

  • What scale do you use for this solo?

  • It's mostly just in Em.

  • that was artistic, expressive, and perhaps the finest bass tones that i've heard in three decades. deep lows, sweet highs, and incredible harmonic chimes. very nicely done!

  • how much does this bass cost?

  • Look it up. Google is your friend ;)

  • hey man, I am considering buying a Modulus VJ full carbon neck model, active with the Barts. Do you have any words of wisdom as an owner you could share with me before I take the plunge?

  • All I can say is that I love mine! The tone and feel really suprised me when I got it. Especially with a little onboard bass EQ boost and some compression, it just sounds perfect for me.

  • You really don't have to answer, but why not show your face?

  • Greeaat! Excellent, 5* dude, really beautiful

  • Really good. The sound on that bass is mad. This your new main bass instead of the KL?

  • Thanks! The KL is still my main bass for band type situations. This one is set up better for solo type playing right now (rediculously low action, awesome solo tone). I usually pick this one up first if I'm just playing by myself. But they're both my main electric basses. Not planning on buying/selling any basses anytime soon!

  • Yeah my main bass I have set really low... also it's down in C becouse I can sing better in the lower tuning. I low harmonics and taps so it all works well. but I gotta say I'm not hearing really any clicking from fret noise... your setup must be just right.

  • nice sustain

  • Very good!

  • You're really good. Do you do this as a career or just for fun?

  • I don't make a living off of it, but it's more than just for fun.

  • you're so fukn good man. an inspiration for sure!

  • the harmonics remind me of jaco pastorius

  • soothing

  • i can't even explain how awesome this is.

gues im just gonna have to use the comment:

"fuck you, you ruined my pants :<"

  • beautiful

  • motherfucker i think i just jizzed

  • this is so damn great, I love it! if you have the audio of this, please send it to me! so great!

  • the use of those harmonics in the beggining are just amazing O_O

  • I wish I had an hour long album of this.... amazing...

  • you are a god in a mortal's body.

  • I died.

  • My mind has been blown. Thanks.

  • That bass sounds delicious.

  • you have to be one of my favorite bassists on youtube :D

  • with guns in their hands?

  • I'm so confused right now.

  • do you detune a string there? at about 00:45

  • Yeah, I've got a d-tuner on the E string. In this video it's set to drop down to a low C.

  • thats awwesooommee :D

  • What?

  • Umm...no. I do like harmonics though :)

  • Whoa! Very nice.

  • briliant!

  • Sweet bro. You have more than enough material to make a solo album. Why don't you?

  • Thanks. I wouldn't call this 'album' material. This is just me improvising and playing around. I only have 2 actual solo pieces that I've written. But I'm definitely planning on working on an album (of some kind) in the near future.
