China town is the correct term to call the place. I am sad not to see many business signs and artistic decoration in Chinese like they once were. Not sure what happened. They just added to the diversity culture of Vietnam.
Jasluvtian is right, he was saying "Ai, The Gioi Nghe Si, 3000, 3000". It means "TGNS for 3000 piasters, anyone ?"
Everyone calm down. Let's just assume no one here is a communist sympathizer or a total fucking rube.
I called it "Chinatown" because that is what it's called in the guidebooks and what the cabbie called it. It means the same thing "Chinatown" means in countless U.S. cities. It's a way of setting it apart from the hundreds of other markets. Did you really expect me to get in a cab in Saigon and say "Take me to the 'Vietnamese Market' please! You know? The one that sells noodle bowls."
Cho Lon or Quan 5, fifth district is the place where most Hoa Kieu or chinese vietnames live. Cho* Binh Tay is the actual market where chinese do business. My grandma's side of family live in Quan 5 and her side is chinese so i know for sure. This one looks like the Lang An Trung Hoa or the roughly translated chinese cuisin village where you would find everything chinese food there. I dont hear any cantonese though in the vid eventhough they still speak it alot there.
Day The Gioi Nghe Si, 3000 3000...here newspapers...its either.World and Artists or the Artist's World. He said it altoghether without clear puntuation so it could be either of of those. The guy was selling newspaper, and in vietnam you have to annouce it like that so people know.
In most city ,there are alot market call little Italy , litle Bombay ,Portuge ...or litle Saigon .when the chef cook , need somthing spice for the food ,or for the food they love to eat . they can not find in Italy or Bombay market or in the super market .Only in their community market .That why the market open in their community .that the part of it
You're an ignorant person aren't you? The town was occupied by Chinese over 100 years, therefore there's no such thing as "Vietnamese Market." Please get your facts straight.
it's not China town. don't insult the Vietnam pride. not every Asian is Chinese; be clear about it. By the way, are you a Chinese?
