In terms of technique, I'd call that 90% perfect. Just a slight tilt to the left on the jerk (which obviously had no effect on the outcome). And it always amazes me to see this style of squat jerk. It takes superb balance and flexibility in addition to speed and strength. A hugely impressive lift.
Have to agree with Sarge at some level. His snatches look very good but I can't understand either why his knees buckle in so strongly during the clean. He losts his cleans quite often because his jerk is all over the place and he can't control the weight which he clearly has strength to finish.
I'm not hating him or trying to downplay his achievements. I'm just saying it looks like he's got even more in him if he can perfect his technique.
The Chinese tend to focus more on actual fluid technique as opposed to the Balkan/Russian ideal of raw strength, plus China has a MASSIVE gene pool to pick from as well.
I know I'm gonna get a few hundred minuses for this, but I really hate watching Armenians lift. Their lifts seem to be so brutal and ugly. Try comparing them to Chinese lifters, whose technique is so slick and smooth that it feels like you're watching ballet and not weightlifting.
And the thing that really pisses me off is why almost all Armenian lifters have the knees go all the way inwards while standing up from a clean and the coach doesn't do jack about it.
I'm the exact opposite in a way. I like lifts that are ugly and people really need to fight and struggle to get the bar up. I love lifts when somebody almost misses the lift but makes a comeback to get it. Then again it's also impressive to watch somebody lift 200kg like it's a toy.
@Sarge343 Don't worry Sarge, in weightlifting circles, I believe it would be hard to find weekend warriors who don't know half the story and start rambling off. Competent lifters know when to give constructive feedback like you have.
I don't hate watching the Armenian technique but I do believe the Chinese have really boiled it down and made it science to hone and master their technique to lift in the most efficient and fluid manner as possible specific to each lifter.
@Sarge343 They don't change the technique because it gets the job done. The Bulgarians are all over the place with technique as well but are brutally strong. Doesn't matter because they win.
One guy that had strange technique was Kurlovich, very wide stance there. Reza's was not textbook at all. Dimas and Rigert got away with a lot for being so powerful. Chakarov was built all wrong, it seemed like, and pulled around his knees.
@Sarge343 i understand that your not a weightlifter but a ballet dancer? well if thats what you like go watch it dont say stupid shit about the world champions weightlifting its not made for the show of how smooth he did its for the amount of weight what metter and what your saying is just not in place ...
I see the point you are trying to make. But there is more behind lifting, than just the descriptions you gave in your words. (Its easier said than done)..If he got it done, then he got it done.
@Sarge343 Not sure what you mean i think i applaud more for "brutal" lifts rather than smooth because if its smooth it means the person is not giving his best shot smooth is usually easy
@Zlaterrr Care to enlighten us as to why, since I have literally never heard that? Deviation from the movement signifies either a flaw in technique or a muscle imbalance, both of which can cause injuries.
@Sarge343 would you say it is because of a hamstring weakness? the Bulgarians had the same problem in the days of Abajieev, particularly Naim. Probably due to the fact that they do more front squats than back squats
@feces9999 the knees come in for two reasons, weakness in the gluteus medius or the vmo is too strong and pulls it in but either way, its not the great thing to have. It can be damaging to the knee but its also unavoidable during heavy squats. but either way good chinese and russian lifters have fixed the issue so i don see why the armenians cant
@yatinshams i guess they follow a more Abadjiev style of training, if they incorporate more assistance lifts and posterior chain work then itl probably fix it. But we all know countries, especially eastern countries, dont like to change the way they train.
@Sarge343 hahahhaha more stupid than the police allows:Weightlifting is a sport kind, not an art. It's not important how you do it,it's important that you do it.and I think that we armenians have the right to be proud of such good results and sportsmen, such a tiny country but anyway.....
@MegaHayk777@RandomStevie In weightlifting and other sports based around gaining a maximum distance/weight etc. (such as throwing), the current world's best display elegance of balance and strength. This isn't done because the sports are mean to be artistic or poetic in nature, but rather because a smooth, rhythmic technique accompanied by strength will outclass a mediocre technique with strength. That's why the Chinese do so well, and if Salimi improves his technique, >214 will come.
@Sarge343 Although I understand what you mean, weightlifting is not a sport of elegance. The goal isn't to lift two to three times over your bodyweight over your head beautifully. Salimi's 214 was ugly as hell, but that ceases to supercede the fact that he lifted 472lbs over his head in about 3 seconds, where as the normal human being could get 472lbs about 3 inches off the ground.
And considering there are 1.5 billion Chinese ( meaning almost every forth person in the world is Chinese) taking that in to account and 9 medals for China is kind of low, statistically i mean.

TheHolySC 1 year ago
@TheHolySC 69kg= weight class
346kg= total of their snatch and clean and jerk in the days competition
188= the amount of kilos he is attempting to lift

He moved up to 77kg at the 2009 WWC. He got Big! lol
3rd place I believe with the two Chinese lifters taking 2nd Su Dajin and new world record holder in the Snatch and Total Lu Xiaojun.
