American movies, generally tend to cater to the juvenile in us and is thus designed to 'shock and awe' our reflexes instead of prodding to life, our minds.

I was looking for similair films like Goemon, found some, yet not as 'good'/Epic as Goemon > Casshern, from the same makers, but lacks story, to slow etc etc.

But i did find 1, wich i think, will be a major hit; The Cup Of Tears. No release date yet, but keep an eye out ;)

I wish some of the viewers that complained of the CGI realized it's meant to be stylistic, not realistic. I mean, i cannot figure why America is so caught up in realism ... in the new Clash of the Titans, everything looks unreal anyway ... this stuff is fantasy. I praise Kiriya's choices as a director. Good style, and probably made for seven million, compared to hundreds of millions.

If it was all CGI it would look great but just having live action characters constantly on 3D backgrounds is a dumb idea, especially with Japan's film budget.

Casshern was an exception because it was a classic and it was allowed to look fairly cheap. Somehow it worked. This movie trailer just made me laugh all the way through and I'm positive it wasn't the reaction they were expecting from foreign audiences.

They need to sort out their movie budgets ASAP especially with the money pouring in.

This movie is actually based on the story of folk legend Goemon Ishikawa, a ninja bandit hero who stole valuables from the rich and gave them to the poor.

Ganbare Goemon is a video game character who is also based to the same legendary hero but his adventures are not based in the history of japan unlike this movie.

This movie really rules! one of the best asian movies i watched! Great story and effects! And the actors are superb!

Generally, I recommend subtitles if you cannot understand Japanese. English dubbing often has bad quality, so with subtitles, you get the original "feel" of the language, but you can also understand what's going on.

There are many special aspects of the Japanese language that are hard to translate into English, so when lip synch is required, much of the spoken content is dropped or altered. I think this gets worse the less the concerned languages are related.

I agree with everyone. This movie was instantly added to my top movies of all time list. Great story, almost every famous actor/actress in Japan (and even some from Korea), amazing (and I mean AMAZING) effects, and a soundtrack that fit perfectly. Will there ever be a movie like this ever again??? Maybe if he decides to make the live action Ninja Scroll...which he apparently has taken interest in...

In fact, it's more the same style of the movie Casshern, since it's a movie from Kiriya. I went to the movie theater for the debut of this movie. Sometimes, some scenes are clearly inspired by Casshern. By the way, the movie is great . Violent, sad, beautiful, that's a good surprise.
