  • God how I admire Jeremy Brett. Unreal, divine beauty. His face is impossible to forget. He plays the contrast between Holmes aloof attitude and his actual passionate and caring nature like no other actor ever did.

  • I like the look on Sherlock's face just before he approaches Mycroft, it's the look of a man who knows he's about to be shown up in front of a friend.

  • 0:49 that looks like my bedroom at the moment!

  • I like this Dr. Watson more than the other, older actor. Thanks for uploading this!

  • 4:37 lol

  • The wonderful Charles Gray. Who performed the marvelous role of Mycroft Holmes. He is known for so many roles, including Dikko Henderson in "You Only Live Twice". He also dubbed the voice for his good friend Jack Hawkins when the great actor was stricken with cancer and could no longer speak having had his vocal chords removed.

  • Great actor. Perfect Holmes.

Also one of the best vid about Brett/Holmes.

I hope its OK with you if I link this vid to mine?

  • If you want to learn more about deduction in the style of Sherlock Holmes go to my website - deductionsite.forum24.se " a site for new and experienced Deductionists".

  • You gotta love these family moments :D

  • I try most times when i am at my window and when out. It is hard, alas I possess the eye of Dr Watson, though it is not impossible!

Wonderful rendition of Holmes....a great clip!

  • I do this most times at my window and when i am out. It is hard, alas I possess the eye of Dr Watson, but not impossible!

    Wonderful video!!!

  • I ''was'' a Basil Rathbone fan and balked at the idea of ''another '' Holmes buttt!! once I saw Jeremy I thought THIS is Holmes the costuming the settings the actor EVERYTHING ,what a series

  • The clip introducing brother Mycroft is from "The Greek Interpreter," which may explain why someone has gone to the trouble of rendering an interpretation of the spoken English into Greek on the video?

I completely agree that if any man were ever born to play a character from literature, Jeremy Brett was born to portray Sherlock Holmes. His looks, and more importantly, his subtle actions capture Conan Doyle's famous hero like no actor before or since.

  • the best Holmes ever... RIP Jeremy. This last scene reminds me of murders on the rue morgue by e a poe. Brilliant, story, logic and here a masterful and captivating actor displaying what is to most minds, ones of worth anyway, fascinating.

  • Those two are just brilliant!!! Jeremy's laugh at 1:09

  • παλι καλα που υπαρχει ενα με ελληνικους υποτιτλους

θες να δεις μια απο τις καλυτερες σειρες που υπηρξαν στο ιντερνετ και δεν μπορεις

  • Isn't this clip form the Illustrious Client??

  • robert downey jr. is the best sherlock holmes i've ever seen....

  • @melji14344 Ha! Have you READ the BOOKS? RDJ was NOTHING like the REAL Holmes! Jeremy Brett IS Sherlock Holmes. <3

  • which is the episode with mycroft holmes?

  • who ever got the eyes get back at me please!!!

  • Does anyone know whether Holmes' apartment is a studio set or shot in a real building? I know someone who's convinced it's a set, they even claim that the whole Baker Street exterior is a mock-up as well.

I'm not saying they're wrong necessarily but it had never occured to me that either location was a set, if they are then they're extremely convincing...

  • I read somewhere that they had whole streets and buildings for filming in Manchester, so I think the apartment was a real building which was part of a studio set....It remained unused after 1995, people could visit it as part of the Granada studio tour, but some years ago the studio decided to close it...

Anyway, those sets, furnitures and the whole atmosphere of the series was so beautiful and accurate.

  • What if Watson had been playing billiards with Thurston and Thurston had something different to talk to Watson about? Or would it be that amazing that Watson broke routine and played billliards with someone else, who previously did not enjoy the game? See thats the whole thing about Holmes. Also, the groove of holding a chalk would very likely be totally invisible within an hour after the chalking. Also, not everyone chalks. Holmes has about a 30 percent chance of being right at the most.

  • where is this from?

  • The BBC Granada series produced back in the 80's - I am pretty sure this episode "The Greek Interpreter." I just bought the entire series and am rewatching from beginning to end with great joy...

  • @ghostfanX2 you're right. the best holmes and his smarter brother

  • and a piece from "the red headed league"

  • Its different. If a heart surgeon explains a surgery, you will find it straight forward. But diagnosing a disease is not simple, and very difficult to explain. Its a matter of intuition and luck. In these stories the clues do NOT work out logically to Holmes deductions. Plot is by far the weakest link of the Holmes mysteries. They usually make no sense at all. Like why does the butler in the "Muskgrave Ritual" ask Rachel to help? He could have used a stick as a lever.

  • Holmes is like a master violionist, a great painter or-in Brett's case-a fine actor when he's demonstrating his art. He makes it all look so easy.

A heart surgeon can explain how he or she installs a pacemaker; sounds straightbford, but it takes skill to do the seemingly simple.

Holmes has an almost ninja-like awareness of his surroundings. He can observe details that are invisible to the rest of us, then read the story behind them.

  • THE BOOOOOK!!!!

  • "To the logician all things should be seen exactly as they are."

  • i luv this episode! Jeremy Brett and David Burke were my favorite Holmes&Watsons. Is it wrong that i kinda, sorta have a crush on Watson.....yeah....i need a life, thanx for uploading!

  • Nice video! The deduction scenes are among my favourites, but my top one favourites are the scenes when holmes and watson sit by the fireplace and smoke, before someone drops by and brings a new case or after a solved one... these are an absolute joy to my eyes, ears and heart!

  • Brett's GREAT!.. can Robert Downey Jr, pull it off?

  • Downey Jr is an excellent actor, but it's not all up to him: there is a director, etc and in the case of JB, he had a great support team who were fanatically devoted to the books and historical accuracy. I don't think we can expect the same care from a blockbuster-type film.

  • nice. 5/5

  • 04:37 : "Pòmm!"

Ahaha, one of the funniest series ever

  • "Everything is absurdly simple when it is explained to you." lol he reminds me of a teacher I used to have

  • Lol. The dancing Men section. When Watson showed surprise, Holmes immediately turned from his microscope to explain his deduction. It's as if he enjoys doing that.

  • I really think both actors for Watson's part (Hardwicke and Burke) did a brilliant job! I guess if I had to prefer one.... I'd pick Hardwicke....but I did like them both. But Jeremy Brett is KING

  • Every problem is absurdly simple when it is explained to you.

  • That is my favourite holmes and watson scene. including the revealing of the paper moments later

  • Has Mr. Sherlock anything to say about the Art of Seduction too?

  • Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes ever....sad he passed away

    I loved this series...

  • agree, Brett was brilliant in the role, the best. I prefer the other older Watson though

  • wow, i completely forgot about the older Watson....you're right.

will you be seeing the new Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey jr.?

  • I want to be Holmes for one day, to see what it is like.

  • I just love this show!

  • I love it when people are surprised when they read or hear of Sherlock Holmes. Deduction in its purest form is merely observation and logic.

  • greek subs o.O

  • Will you never upload the rest of the series?

  • Do you think someone can train there skill of deductive reasoning like that or is that an overkill? because if u could i would pay to learn. lol

  • It is stated many times in the Sherlock Holmes series that Mr. Holmes started with an aptitude for observation, and then trained himself in things that would aid him. I have no doubt that one can gain these powers in a small way. Dr. Watson himself picked up a few observational skills simply by watching Mr. Holmes for so long.

  • hahahaha! I absolutely love the way his reasoning skill works! he made watson look like a complete fool at the end!

  • Greek Interpreter

  • in which story does holmes' brother appear?

  • He also appears in Golden pince-nez

  • also the final problem.

  • And The Bruce Partington Plans

  • And the Mazarin stone too

  • Wow. My mom would freak at the very level of messiness in his room.

  • rly?

  • which episode is the last clip from? :D

i love SH and JB so much *squees*

thankyou.. and sorry if this has allready been asked/answered

    xxx

  • That would be the adventure of the Dancing Men. Dont hesitate to ask if you have any questions generally.

  • Their still teaching people in psychology that the primary effect when first meeting someone is not that relevant.

Hang on cold reading and Sherlockian deduction?

  • Yes yes, figuring out how Holmes knew about the South African business good and well but what the hell was Watson's check book doing locked in Holmes' drawer?

    ((Great vid. Thanks for posting.))

  • Good observation, but i think there are some ways to explain it.. one is that there is only one drawer and only one key. But of course this is a guess (not deduction..).

  • Why thank you. That's just the sort of thing that catches my attention and annoys me for a bit.

  • @zat04 I have noticed from watching other episodes, that Holmes and Watson share this room, while maintaining separate bedrooms (Watson's is one floor up, I believe). While Watson has his own office at his surgery (clinic), he uses this space at Baker Street as his dining room and drawing room.

  • @zat04

Deduction is merely a method. And if you concluded on the basis of your behavioural theories, that the drawer... etc. , then yours is a conclusion from deduction just as Holmes'. Holmes is only so brillant because he finds all the relevant independent variables and thus comes to the right conclusions.

  • @DemiShinigami Watson is frivolous with money. Its is known that Watson is somewhat of a gambler, hence Holmes keeps his checkbook under lock and key, out of the reach of temptation.

  • @sherlockholmes88 True Watson had told Holmes that he spent half of his wound pension betting on racing. 'The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place'

Holmes may have kept a brotherly eye on Watson and his finaces because of Watson's family history of squandering money, such as his elder brother who died a penniless alchoholic.

  • @DemiShinigami The reason for it being locked up is because Watson had a gambling problem, so he would have Holmes lock it up for him to help.

  • I am an idiot for writing that. *sigh*

  • Dr. House does this kind of thing all the time. Cool video :)

  • house is a boy, holmes is a man

  • House's method of deduction is a tad different, but I totally get where you see the similarity.

  • Interesting, could you briefly characterise each of their methods?

  • House and his friend Dr. Wilson were inspired by Holmes and Dr. Watson :) So you will see quite a few similarities in the characters think

  • Holmes prototype in real life was a Dr. Joseph Bell...Thats where Doyle took idea.

  • Dr House is based on Holmes....including his name

  • i have yet to really find a sherlock holmes rendition that seems that good. They all seem like made for tv type deals but never a serious movie.

I would love to see a full on production of Holmes because i think it sets itself up for great shots and a gritty overall feel.

  • that is true

  • Do anyone think Shawn Spenser (Psych) can go head up with Sherlock Homles? Me and my cuzin r having a disgreement about it.

  • Haven't seen Psych, but i guess an easy way to answer this, is to imagine let's say.. Jeremy Brett in the role of Shawn Spenser!

  • well I've seen psych and its had to say, because both Sherlock and Shawn observer everything that comes across there eyes. so that is a good question.

  • i want to watch vasily livanov as sherlock holmes does anyone have???

  • My question too

  • GalaBiR here on youtube has a lot of sovjet videos, one of them is "hound of baskervilles". I believe that vasily livanov plays the main part as sherlock holmes , you should check it out.

  • sassyOthalia - i think it can be downloaded online... try pirate search or smt like that

you should definetely watch it he was born to play sherlock

there are english translation clips on youtube

  • thanx

  • can some1 tell me what volume was Sherlock Holmes brother on? I love how they did that!!

  • Greek Interpreter

  • thanx

  • I love this! Thank you for posting this! Sherlock is just awesome!

  • lol for Watson's adoring face as he's looking at Mycroft

  • good good good!!! Why you have no comments, girl?? it's unfair!!! Add me as friend if you don't mind. I enjoy making JB fan friends:)

  • Wrong guess my friend, boy, not girl !

Deduction (if it is) is a bit tricky some times :)

Generally speaking please feel free to write comments.

  • hahah, sorry!!!*blushes* I thought u were another JB fan and most JB fans I met are female. ;)

Still, thanks for sharing this vid!!

  • Ok np!

    ..from a (basically) SH fan..
