I think the thing that isn't clear in this video is that b4 you use the rotation tool, you must have both circles selected. So use your selection tool and click an area around the 2 circles, then go to the rotation tool. When you first click the COPY button, you should get 1 additional small circle. The other thing to note is that you will get copies of the big circle too. So, after you make all the small circles, if you select just the big circle you will be able to delete it 19 times.
Thank you for this tutorial. I appreciate what you're doing here. I've always wondered how they come up with this shape. Your tutorial is delivered really clearly and it's very helpful for me. Thanks again! Cheers
illustrator cs5, mac, how do you duplicate?????????????????? I know in corel draw you press "+" and in inkscape it's "control+D" But for the life of me, I cant find the keyboard shortcut to duplicate!! Help.
Ugh...Im so confused! What do you do after you click rotate? Did you click inside the big circle? and did you say 360 x 20 in the angle box? I couldn't understand. If that is what you said, I always get an error.
it is simple just press(L)key or either use above screen option. press [Edit] and find keyboard shortcuts and you can see some shortcut keys other than circle!!!!!

@nosmailliwydocbocaj DUDE, NO! Listen, you have to learn somehow. I recommend Lynda, if you are familiar with. Even though I never took any of their classes, I saw some of their simple tutorials and I heard very good things about them. Trust me, its really different when you use it without learning. There some features you won't even think existed or how to use them correctly and will save you tons of work, unless ofcourse you use it in a more artistic fashion and you don't need much accuracy.
You can't be serious now, can you? You didn't know?! Who was your teacher dude?! I mean, this function is so basic in its importance e.g., if you want to draw an accurate clock.
Thanks, this was useful but I could you show your tools for those of us that are extremely visual and need to see absolutely every tiny detail to learn? Other than that, it was a very informative video. Thanks!!!
Hi nosmailliwydocbocaj. Thanks for your comment. I have been using Illustrator since about 1989 and am still finding things out.. It a fabulous tool. I really wish I had time to do more tutorials. Anyways Happy ilustratoring.
@J4archae it seems he switches between pc keys and mac keys the command on a pc is ctrl. its common to say the wrong name if you work on both pc and mac.
Fantastic! I've been buggering about trying to do this for ages – It used to be really easy in Freehand, but I was beginning to think Illustrator was the tool of the Devil again. And to those who didn't get it right away JUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE TUTORIAL– it couldn't be any simpler.
Okay, this is weird. I went through the tutorial once and it worked (so cool, by the way). But then I tried to do it again, and apparently some setting in AI changed--permanently as far as I can tell--and I cannot seem to get this to work. When I click on the rotate tool, hover and click "Alt" I no longer get the minus sign. Instead I see an ellipse (...) and the cool "copy" and then Ctrl-D don't work. I even tried closing and restarting the program. Any ideas what I did to screw this up?
@GirlPaint I havent come across this problem. I have tried to DO WHAT YOU DID BUT CANT SEEM TO FIND THE ELIPSE problem. Sorry for caps. I'll keep on trying
Im a total beginner and I found this easy, thanks for the lesson. To the guys that are moaning and being rude, I think if you are struggling with this as a beginner your probably going to struggle with illustrator as a whole, also alittle common sense goes a long way.
@dbanksw You are very welcome. Its makes it worthwhile when you get positive feedback. And I appreciate your comment re the moaning few. These people are generally unsuccessful and probably don't have too many real friends in the world. Thanks again
@Luijt05 You obviously didn't get the manner in which the questions where asked. I am not a rude person. I just stick up for myself. Its difficult to really define BEGINNER. This Tut is for someone who has a grasp of where the tools are for gods sake they are in the tool box that appears on screen when you open the programme up. The circle tool is can you believe it a bloody circle in the tool box. . I don't profess to be a good teacher. Just want to pass my knowledge on. So do one you prick.
@Luijt05 Oh and for your info. I don't own a horse. Why don't you get off your arse (which I am sure you might have or maybe it belongs to your boyfriend now) and try and help people instead of putting down people who are trying to help.
Oh my goodness, how are we expected to know how to do this if you don't tell us the tools or show us what the folders you're talking about are?? If beginners knew how to do this, they wouldn't need this tutorial!!
i dont get how to defy the 360 by 20 cause ive tried 360 (20) or 360 by 20. how do i enter that? it keeps telling me to enter a correct numerical value.
Hey! just want you to know that I have mastered this tut. and even though it wasnt a basic tut., it was a good video with great info. I'm subscribing. Do you know anything about this wacom tablet I just bought? LOL! Do you know anything about setting up three monitors?LOL! do you know why my illustrator will not update? Oh yeah,by the way, I like your voice.
@royalconcrete1 Well let see.. Well its a circle so maybe it was the circle tool!!!!!!!!! Do you want me to go as far as how to switch the computer on???
@royalconcrete1@glenwebster LOL! maybe not that far back but I see two arrows, a magic wand, a lasso, a pen, a big T a \, a square, a paint brush, a pencil, an arrow going around a circle with dots(tried that one) , two squares with a arrow in one, a hand, a dotted square, a paint can, a graph, something else I cant describe, a gradient, a picker a square circle(tried that) a bucket a square with a arrow, 4 corners an eraser, a hand , magnifyer glass then thesquares at the bottom, which one?
@royalconcrete1 Hi, I watched a different video to learn how to make that perfact black circle in your tut. So now I can proceed with your "beginner" tut.
@royalconcrete1 you have to pushed the SHIFT button also, when you want make a perfect circle. Maybe you should read a very basic tutorial and than it won't be so strange :)
Thank you so much for doing such a simple tutorial. It's so difficult to find something as basic as this to get you started in illustrator, which is hugely daunting to a beginner. TFS!
Hi...just watched this and found some tips I could use elsewhere. Been on illustrator for over 6 years now but don't really know the full works! Where would be a could place to start?...TimF
Hi Marpoppenden Thanks very much indeed for your comment.. I started this with all good intentions but have since had a new baby and a new Job as Client Service Director for an Ad agency so I have very little time at all. However if there is something specific that you want to know Please ask. I am happy to help. Cheers
Hi Rockandstroll. Thanks for your comment.. Well the space between the circles will be dictated by how many circles you have. Try it by dividing 360 by a fewer number of circles or by making the circles smaller.. I hope that makes sense. good luck.
Thanks, that was easy and helpful. The only thing I couldn't do was clicking in the centre of the bigger circle to get the Rotate menu (the blue dot would appear somewhere else on the screen but not where I placed it!). I was using Wacom Tablet, but then it all went well with a mouse. Is it just me and my Bamboo or Illustrator works badly with tablets?
Is there any way you would be ableto do an AOP tutorial? (All over print) Ive seen it done before but I cant seem to get the hang of it :( Thanks for your videos, they relly are a great help!

you are the worst teacher in the history of video tutorials.
