It's nice to see some female gymnasts who don't look like lumberjacks. I think the current focus on athleticism over grace is costing the sport dearly.
What I really like about this video is the interesting contrast between the flowing graceful music and the powerful gymnastics! What a beautiful video! Thank you for making the video!
Ah, Gina Gogean. She has got to be the most under appreciated Romanian gymnast ever. I never would have guessed she would be number one on this list. If I had had to guess, I probably would have said Milo, Comaneci, or Silivas.
I have seen mostly all your videos and to be honest the soundtrack (music) you selected for this one has been the most perfect choice. It fits like a glove with it must be sweet, poignant, dramatic or strong energy !!!
ong why would nadia be number 6 she is the first gymnast in the world too get a 10 on beam and bars 7 times anywhy i love this montage great video !! ::))
@3Dgymnast14 The montage is about the number of medals won, not the legacy. While Nadia did earn the most number of Olympic medals for the Romanians, she faltered during the Worlds (only 4 medals, 2 of which were individual) which was why she was not ranked as high as she should've been.
mostepanovaFan ..... Did you decide to leave Raducan's olympic AA gold out of the count ? I knowwww it got stripped and all ... But we all know she won it fair and square !
It's kind of funny to watch the American montage before this one- the Romanian successes in gymnastics blow the USA's out of the water like nobody's business.
I don't understand why some people think their own way when the FACT is clearly presented in their face, Gina Gogean is clearly the most decorated romania gymnast. If you STILL...... doesn't get, we will help you find your brain.
Spectacular montage. However, as the saying goes, all that shines is not gold, or in this case, medals. If you take into consideration, legacy, originality and indelible moments, the result would be: 1. Nadia, 2. Silivas, 3. Szabo, 4. Dobre (she would rank higher had she not been obstructed by injury), 5. Ponor, 6. Milo, 7. Agache, 8. Raducan, 9. Gogean, 10. Amanar. Moreover, there were more opportunities for worlds medals after the 90s.
You use 1 set of criteria for these rankings and I guess these arent your opinions. "Most successful" can mislead as medals are important, but not everything. Nadia at #6 rather than #1 is very wrong and Gogeans place is also an issue. Otherwise, the list looks almost perfect.
FYI, I've conducted polls on various gym message boards and the heavy consensus is #1 Nadia, #2 Silivas, #3 often between Milo and Dobre.
i think that even if nadia doesn't have as many medals as others may, she is still the most successful gymnast of all time. don't reply please this is my dads account :) thanks for making this
I loved the way Bontas threw that full double layout. So easy.
Sigh, I LOVE most of these gymnasts, minus Amanar and Gogean. I can't deny their talent, but something about their gymnastics never attracted me to them.
@7Millionaire7 I totally agree with you, since Simona's choreography was always overworked, hesitated a lot and she seemed to be always on the edge, while Gina's performances were always lifeless... they were never at the same level with Lavinia.
I go bananas over that zippy little release twirl Nadia did on the uneven bars. I know Baitova did it a lot, but I hardly otherwise see it when I watch bars. So graceful and powerful.
@vespertined I think that release is called the Caslavska -named after Vera Caslavska the 1968 Olympic Gymnastics Champion. There is footage of Vera on bars performing that same release at the Mexico Games. :)
Great Montage I think you should of counted Raducan's AA gold she wont it fair and square, I understand she is not the winner in the books but she deserves that medal.
i'd love for someone to score Gogean's routines using the new CoP, just to see what her B score would end up as. Her form is noticeably subpar in this video compared to the others. Granted, she knew how to stick & stay on the apparatus!
Moste, I've read in several places that Gina Gogean was underage when she started competed as a senior. Do you think this is true & if it is wouldn't it affect the rankings?
Gina Gogean was thirteen at the 1991 Worlds and 1992 Olympics (she turned fourteen about a month after the Olympics ended). This was proven in 2002 when the BBC uncovered her original birth certificate. Daniela Silivas also told the media that she was thirteen at the 1985 Worlds at this time. The results stand because there is a ten-year statute of limitations on age falsification.
@MostepanovaFan I've also read that several other Romanian gymnasts were underage, like Alexandra Marinescu and even Daniela Silivas. Gina and Alexandra both won an Olympic Team Medal at age of 14, and Daniela won a beam gold at age 13. So sad that Dong Fangxiao is the only one to ever get her (and the entire team) medal stripped for being underage. :(
yes, lots. One of the best is Jennifer Khwela, who competed for South Africa at the Worlds this year. She was not the only South African there. Also, Ghana, Namibia and Egypt have thriving gymnastics programs that I know of. Egypt sends gymnasts, and others want to.
That might be a hard one to calculate; a lot of China's medals have been team medals. If it is feasible, I think it might work out something like this: Fan Di Zhang Nan Kui Yuanyuan He Kexin Yang Yilin Liu Xuan Ling Jie Mo Huilan Ma Yanhong Cheng Fei
Surely Silivas with 9 golds is tops?? Gogean is like a carthorse next to Silivas! dull and inelegant!

Gina Gogean, nobody imagine her in the 1 spot. she deeply underapreciate, but the fact are the fact.

For Nadia you forgot somethign she got the first (perfect) 10 in the modern olympics
123givepeaceachance 1 year ago
@123givepeaceachance Since this montage features the gymnasts with the most medals, that point (which I am well aware of) is entirely irrelevant.

@MostepanovaFan irrelevant? gosh dude..that girl did something that nobody in the history of gymnastic did before and after her

@Dunicika That doesn't affect the mathematics of the number of medals she won, something everyone seems to find worryingly difficult to grasp

@Ruffian144 She was underage but this would not affect the rankings because her first individual medal came in 1993 when she was age eligible.
