As a person whose family members work for the union, it greatly upsets me to see the ignorant comments left on the site. The CAW has worked hard for many many years to educate Canadians on workers' rights, create job security, and fund social justice campaigns. Yes the Japanese do build good cars, but they are slipping in quality. Do you realze that the big the big three build on average more reliable cars than the Europeans? Unions are not going away anytime soon. Besides union workers on average are more productive than non union workers. Again I don't expect you to agree with my position and I respect yours. If you are so against unions maybe you should see if you can retract your right to universal health care, subsidized Edu, Pension, and EI. Unions played a role in getting these for you and to allow yourself to benefit from these progams kinda means you are a hypocrite

Like I said previously, union workers as a whole produce more than non-union workers. I am not sure about specific company to company examples. From what I understand, quality issues previously plaguing big three were not from what happened on the assembly line, but more from poor supply chain management and design issues. These issues are the responsibility of management and not the union workers. Not even the most skilled blue collar work force can save a company from management stupidity.
