i have a problem in my resolution im stuck in default resolution (800x600) this is the highest resolution it have.....then i decided to install the nvidia then it said that i should reboot the system after reboot whaaa! im stuck in 640x480 resolution all things are so large...im currently using nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400 im really a newbie 2days trying to troubleshooting it but nothings happens....ur reply is greatly appeciates....ty ASAP
I have gotten WoW running on two Ubuntu 8.10 machines in the past with mixed results. The newest unstable wine is needed due to the latest patch... but it runs well... with faults, on one PC it will only run in fullscreen at a certain resolution but supports all graphics at full. The other only supports graphics around mid way but otherwise works fine. Using graphics cards Nvidia 9600GT for the first and Nvidia 7600GT on the latter.
Not really.. The only reason games lag is because the graphics drivers are dated. For example.. I think the most up-to-date drivers available for ubuntu are 183 drivers. Nvidia are on like 190+ now
not really, in some cases it might be slower but in a lot others is much faster, because of how the kernel manages the resources differently, I believe if the guy here turns of his compiz the FPS will be a lot faster, compiz is redrawing the entire screen here, that's why it's slower, but it's much faster without composite turned on.
people download linux not to emulate windows. Quite the contrary. They simply want a more stable environment that gives you more control. Playing games is something you do when you are doing nothing else. For everything else linux is better I have found because its simply faster and doesn't waste processing power. I still have windows installed though I don't see a reason anymore.
It's standard with Ubuntu. But you do have to set how many panels you want. It defaults to just two but you can get more. I am not sure but I think it goes up to 8.
Dude.. what did you do to make the WoW work 100% I can play and all but when i enter that cave like you did i get a MAYOR fucking screen bug!! help me out here bro
Dude, I'm seriously having problems with my ATI driver. WoW works fine using Direct 3d, but its slow. But the OpenGL is so unstable, but at least faster. I have tried the stuff the other websites told me.
Please help.
I'm using an ati raedon x300 under Linux Ubuntu 8.04
wasnt that easy for me ...i installed wine and wow its all set up but for some reason its not in a playable state...cant see much only bar clock/map and my name i know my comp can handle it ...i had it on windows
this will prolly work on a powermac g5 running ubuntu right please say yes cause blizzard stopped support for powerpc macs under osx

Maldrend 1 year ago
@Maldrend haha that is the interesting here, windows vs ubuntu the only difference is that you pay for windows, ubuntu is absolutly free
M15T3Red 6 months ago
@M15T3Red the only difference is the price? that... may be the most offencive thing i've heard of ubuntu in my life :c
also, he meant the difference between playing it on windows and playing it on ubuntu.

the ONLY thing that stops me from playing wow in wine is there is no hardware cursor support from blizzard for opengl

You need a program called Wine.
Just go to Applications > Add/Remove
And search for Wine
