Gillebrand is a terrible choice IMHO. I'm OK with her being pro-gun, but her 100% rating with the NRA is scary (I half-kiddingly say that membership in the NRA should be enough to bar one from ever owning a gun).
Most of all I loathe her fanatical pro-hunting position, and tax-funded subsidies to promote hunting, the pork she put in the farm bill, and her support of the disgustingly mis-named H.R. 2016 which effectivly seeks to turn all public land into game parks. She embrasses all upstaters
How is her 100% rating scary? Why would NRA membership preclude someone from owning a firearm?
Criminals aren't going to lobby to fight anti-gun laws that only hurt sportsmen. Criminals don't follow laws, which is why they're criminals. The NRA isn't there to make sure everyone has guns, they've even supported some legislation to prevent gun violence. They don't like violence either.
The NRA are far more militant and nutty than you think.
Remember the "cop killer" bullets they fought to keep legal? George Bush 41 who is himself a loathsome gun nut resigned from the NRA because they're that far off the deep end.
Here's an example of the NRA referred to federal law enforcement: "jack-booted government thugs" and Federal agents wearing "nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms."
I really wish you were kidding. I remember how the media mis-labeled the Black Talons as being "cop killer" ammunition, because they look scary. The bullets themselves did have a lubricant coating, yes, but that doesn't make them armor piercing. It prevents copper fouling in the barrel, and decreases drag on the bullet in the barrel to increase velocity and lower chamber pressures. They were made for police.
Please, before you say something, make sure you know what you're talking about.
I don't recall the NRA ever saying anything about federal law enforcement along those lines, though many people have. There are times I'd agree with them that government agencies have our self interests as a last concern.
As for hunters, yes, they are sportsmen. The BATFE has import limitations on firearms based on sporting purpose, which includes hunting as a sport. And if it's not a sport, what's that make it?

Take the quotes i gave you, google them and you'll find many news articles about Geroge Bush resigning from the NRA over their extremist position, with those quotes being what pushed him to leave the NRA.
Hunters aren't sportsmen. A sport connotes something challenging where equally matched opponents consent to the game. Hunters lack a moral compass.
Just because you had no moral compass as a hunter doesn't mean that other hunters don't. Many people just don't give a shit. And you're probably still eating, too. Hunting is far less heartless than a slaughterhouse.
And ok, an NRA member said something along those lines, but not the NRA.

No kidding, Kirsten and my wife are identical in looks. I am blessed, to say the least. My wife sounds more like Kelly Preston, though.

Those are quotes from their NRA ads.

I say this as an ex-hunter.
