Black bears kill cougars all the time where I'm from. They avoid confrontation as much as possible but if it comes down to it, they kill. F.Y.I Black bears are FAST!!! They can run just about as fast as a horse

Thus shows a black bear cub back off from a confrontation with a cougar cub. So what. I seen an adult cougar back off ffrom a confrontation with an adult black bear more than once. In this case, it shows that the black bear was smart. No need to fight irf you don't have to.

I have seen black bears chase away cougars. Cougars ordinarilly act very vicious but ordinarilly back away from bears. The young bear just did not want a confrontation.
