I'm Swiss but I don't speak French. There is really a SWISS German, not the German they speak in Germany. In Swiss the number for fire emergencies and the information line is quite the same, 118 and 1818/1811. that's really confusing.;) I'm sorry for my English.
i love this video, my French class always bugs my teacher to play this video in class. also when the bleep comes up he never tells us what he says...damn. x3
The reason they made this video is because people mistakenly dial 118 so many times that it's become a problem. The number for "information" or something similar to that, is very close to 118, thus people accidently dial 118 when they really don't have an emergency.
I think it is a great idea to get the message across, because its so "catchy". I am half swiss but I speak german not french so too bad I don't actually understand what they are saying

The song is about how if you need an electrician, call one; if you need a locksmith, call a locksmith; but if you have a fire then 118 is the right number and stop calling the directory inquiry.
2/3They've been receiving HUNDREDS of calls each month from people trying to reach directory assistance/information (1818) - so they want everyone to know that 118 is NOT the number to call for anything but a fire emergency.
3/3 At the end, the guy is explaining that regrettably the fire department will be unable to help you with your house burning down because they are so busy dealing with non-emergency calls. So you should "tatoo the number in your underwear" so you won't make a mistake.
Rap has a very positive use in the modern post industrial world, very few ppl know that its two Jamaican guys that brought the art form from Jamaica to NYC.(using turntables and sampling songs etc)
Brillient use of the spoken word for a very good cause.
Bravo Swiss fire men, I hope more public organisations follow ur lead.
Made by the firefighters in the French section of the country. The number for emerg. was changed to 118, was like a 411 in NA. They still kept getting 411 calls; it was tying up the lines for people that were in real emergencies. Rap was to remind people that 118 is for emergency only. The serious part of the message is at 2:38 they say "if you don't stop tying up this phone line, people will receive a busy message and they will burn to death in their house because of you" (rough translation).
Umm, I hate to break this to you, but there is no "Swiss" language. There are four official langugages of Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Romansh.
This is one of the greatest videos ever. And I know French, which makes it SO much better. If I had time I would translate the song and put it up here, but I'm at work.
The people in their formal uniforms say, toward the end of their part, that "one day your house may burn and you won't be able to phone because of people like you (who make calls to the fire emergency number instead of information) and (all) will be lost".
How do you say "Word!" in french. LOVE IT! I'd like to see the translation as well, but I get the idea. "l'un un huit" for the win. I'm going to go put 118 on the back of all my shorts.
CNN said that people were calling 118 (swiss' 911) but wanted the swiss' directory assistance (118118). the firefighters made this rap in frustration.
Just saw a story about this on CNN, basically the firefighters made this cause people were calling 118 (similiar to America's 911) and the people didnt mean to call 118 they meant to call the Swiss Directory (not sure what that number is)

118 is their "9-1-1".
In Switzerland, you dial 118 for an emergency.

If you wanna know a numer in Switzerland, you used to call 111, and the fire department number was 118.
Now 111 doesn't exist anymore, and several others appeared, 1811 and 1818 and fire department's still 118.
People are too stupid and keep dialing 118 asking for phone numbers and adresses...

They made this video because, in Switzerland, the old information line was 111 and has changed for 1818.
The firefighters line is 118 and a lot of people use that number for informations, and it overload the firefighters line.
