The Japanese people use English on a lot of things because they think of English as being a cool, modern language. I've never really understood this. I would kind of like to see a Japan interview about why Japanese people like English so much.

English is considered being the global language and in almost any case "cooler" and it's also the language most movies and TV shows use. An american for example can never know what that feels like, and a swedish person like myself can never feel how it feels to have your own language as the "standard".

i read some time ago that in holland they put script at the bottom in dutch but listen to the movie in english.

also english was chosen as a neutral language for india. there were so many different languages and dialects it was more practical to have one common one for government, business and much of science and higher education.

being a native eng. speaker makes one kind of lazy. i traveled to europe and didn't worry about not being understood.

i'm picking up more spanish tho.

It's like a trend I guess in places like Japan and South Korea where even in songs, artists have English bits in their songs to make the song cooler or whatever it is they're going for.

that happens here a bit. some ppl get tattoos of chinese characters that are supposed to say something...it is usually gibberish.

tattoo shops have a chart of chinese symbols that are supposed to be equivalent to english letters. no such thing exists. so if you got your name done on your arm you should think about getting a big giant skull to cover up your ignorance. it would be more classy.
